In Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, a 10-minute walk from Las Ramblas, the Arai Aparthotel Barcelona is a lovingly restored 18th-century palace with an abundance of original features, including vaulted ceilings, checkerboard marble floors and sweeping wrought iron staircases. The interiors showcase works of art from the private Clos Foundation and objects uncovered during the building’s renovation. In the 31 apartment-style rooms you’ll find fully equipped kitchens, high ceilings and private balconies, and many feature original cream-colored stone walls or exposed brickwork. The marble-clad bathrooms are suitably swanky, with large metal sinks and walk-in hydrotherapy showers. Cool off with a dip in the rooftop pool, then head down to the museum next to the lobby; the display includes vintage photographs, ceramics and a fifth-century Roman mosaic.
In the Area
The hotel is well positioned for enjoying the Gothic Quarter’s historic delights. Get a culture fix at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, a majestic 19th-century music venue that offers an eclectic program of opera, ballet and classical concerts. Just a 10-minute walk from the theater lies the world famous Picasso Museum. Housed in five adjoining medieval palaces, the museum features over 4,000 examples of the artist’s work. In the evening treat yourself to a meal at elegant eatery El Regulador. Serving up Mediterranean dishes, sourced from local Boquería market, the restaurant boasts spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows and an exclusive cocktail bar.
How to Get There
We recently spent 8 nights at this lovely hotel. Our room was fantastic and we were surprised at just how large it was. It had a great balcony which we used every evening after dinner to relax and enjoy the city sounds with a drink. This hotel is extremely well located and we walked everywhere. Sagrada Familia was only about a 35 minute walk. There is a supermarket literally steps away where we picked up supplies and wine. There are also many bakeries in the area where we would grab breakfast or lunch things and then come back to enjoy them on the balcony. What really sets this hotel apart from the others is their customer service. Everyone we dealt with went out of their way to ensure things were going well and to see if there was anything we might need. They were extremely helpful with both restaurant suggestions and making the reservations for us. This hotel is the perfect place to head back to after a long, busy day exploring Barcelona.
We stayed at this wonderful hotel for three days before leaving on a cruise. It’s located in the Gothic quarter - winding alleys, independent artists, intimate atmosphere, Fun shops, bakeries, numerous quiet plazas. There’s not a lot of car traffic, but automobiles seem to impossibly navigate these alleys amongst pedestrians. It adds to the flavor and charm of this wonderful area.
The hotel is located in a restored old building, which has preserved and exposed original stone and brick walls and ceiling beams. Very cozy. The rooms are not spacious but quite comfortable. The staff is extremely accommodating and service is impeccable. Our room had a Nespresso machine with free coffee.
We didn’t get the chance to use the rooftop pool, we did go up to the roof to see it , and the entire setting looked quite nice.
We spent 4 days at this fantastic hotel. It is in a great location in the Gothic quarter and is immaculate. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. The rooms are packed with lovely touches- robes, fresh flowers and toiletries. We would highly recommend Hotel Arai and would love to return.
