How to Get There
Overall excellent - a couple of minor niggles but not sufficient to reduce the score. We only stayed a couple of nights but we managed a night walk, a morning walk and a cultural trip to a coffee plantation with a retail opportunity and a walk around San Ramon. We also fitted in some time on our own at the humming birds stations, where we could have sat for hours.
The walks were excellent with guides who knew what to look for and where to look. The cultural tour was fascinating - the coffee plantation tour being especially good. The accommodation was comfortable without being especially luxurious. A balcony or terrace to sit outside would have been welcome. We didn't bother with the open fire - it was quite warm enough without.
The food in the restaurant was generally good although we were 'pushed' into the special dinner for Valentine's night - on 16th February! Sadly, the only thing that was special about the meal was the price - much above what we paid the previous night - for a limited choice of food which was really very ordinary - quite edible but in no way special. The entertainment was quite acceptable but, again, not very special.
This was a wonderful part of our first trip to Costa Rica. The cloud forest is an incredibly rich, fascinating and mysterious environment with Villa Blanca providing a warm and gracious environment in which to experience it. We loved our room, the food was great and the staff was wonderful.
We stayed here as part of a 10 day tour of Costa Rica and we loved it. Our bungalow was smaller than we expected but it had everything we needed and was comfortable. We even lit the wood fire in the evening to make it even more cosy. We had an evening walk and a morning walk and though we didn’t really see that much in the evening, our morning walk with Warner was fascinating!!
The food was good but there was only the main dining room and nowhere else in the area to eat, so that was the choice.
There are lots of self guided paths around the grounds and there’s also a lovely chapel to visit but that’s about it really, so two nights was enough. We didn’t see much on our walks but saw so many birds and several caotis just in the gardens of the hotel. The gardens are beautiful.
My only complaint would be the lack of pricing when it came to the drinks. Bar prices (except wine) weren’t displayed so you only found out how expensive they were when given the bill!! People didn’t like to ask. There was a menu of local beers with every bit of information on, except the price (which was $10). The bar was usually empty which is sad because it’s the only area where people can socialise. There wasn’t even a price list for the mini bar in our room so we didn’t dare partake!!
However we enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it for a couple of nights.
This is an amazing place with wonderful people . Special bartender,Alex, made us feel special every day. The humming birds were great. All hiking trails were easy to moderate. The food, farm to table, was perfect.
Beautiful location to watch and experience the clouds rolling in and over you. Several walking trails within the reserve to see birds, wildlife and raptors on the thermals; it has its own dairy with the chance to milk the cows; guided walks or freedom to wander alone. Food was really good with local produce from the reserve and the diary; restaurant staff exceptional.
