Overview

Luxe hideaway with a Shiseido spa, golf course and three-tier pool on the Seychelles' second-largest island
The Look
The Seychelles’ second-largest island, Praslin is paradise with a capital P: coconut palms, turquoise surf and often deserted white powder beaches. The Constance Lémuria has the most desirable location, at the northwestern tip, hidden among lush foliage. Despite its size — 105 villas and suites on rambling grounds — the resort retains a castaway vibe. Beaches aside, there’s a Shiseido spa, a gym, a Rodney Wright–designed 18-hole golf course, free bikes, water sports galore, a kids club and a turtle conservation project. The breezy open-air architecture is impressive but the public spaces feel somewhat dated; the Legend restaurant features tusk-like torch-holders, low ceiling fans and mahogany floors, for example (an update is planned). The Beach Bar & Grill is laid-back and maximizes its location by commanding the sapphire surf, with tables scattered around a circular wooden bar.
Bed and Bath
The guestrooms favor function over frills and showcase natural materials such as pink granite and indigenous woods. The white marble bathrooms are spacious, with studded shutters that open to reveal views of the Indian Ocean from the tub. Junior and Senior suites come with a balcony or terrace, while Pool Villas flaunt deliciously private wraparound pools, indoor/outdoor showers and a sunken deck for butler-delivered star-lit dinners. Book Pool Villa 4 or 5 for a good chance of seeing turtle hatchlings (between December and February).
Beyond
Leafy palm, takamaka and almond trees provide shade on the three white powder beaches. Grand Anse Kerlan is long, quiet and popular with hawkbills; Petit Anse Kerlan is a creamy curve with smooth granite boulders, a net for safe snorkeling and a beach kiosk that serves fresh salads. A five-minute buggy ride away, Anse Georgette is the perfect secluded stretch for a picnic (ask the resort to prepare one in advance) and a dip in the warm, shallow water. Seafood is the star at all three restaurants, from buffet-style Creole curries to grilled snapper in banana leaves. You should dress for dinner at the Seahorse, where the must-order dish is duck breast with sweet spices and fondant potatoes. The bamboo-shaded, thatch-roofed spa specializes in Shiseido treatments, with a holistic slant. The Japanese bathing ceremonies are sublime.
In the Area
A Seychelles trip wouldn’t be complete without seeing the famously suggestive Coco de Mer trees in the Vallée de Mai nature reserve, a 20-minute drive away; look for the resident black parrot flitting among the branches. Côte d’Or in the northeast is livelier, with fresh fish stalls, hawkers and dreadlocked locals firing up beach barbecues to a reggae soundtrack. Island-hop from there: See more than 500 giant land tortoises on Curieuse, come face to beak with rare nesting birds in a protected reserve on Cousin, pedal around old-fashioned La Digue or snorkel alongside iridescent fish in the marine park surrounding St. Pierre islet.
