An opulent retreat with soaring frescoed ceilings and marble columns in the heart of Prague
With an exquisite neoclassical façade dating from the 19th century, Boscolo Prague (once the Czech Mortgage Bank) is the height of opulence: think sweeping staircases with wrought iron balustrades, soaring frescoed ceilings and original brass chandeliers. The lobby has towering marble columns, potted palms, period furnishings and plenty of ornamental touches, reminding guests that this is very much Old World Prague.
Bed and Bath
The 152 rooms are seriously romantic with single roses draped over beds, oversize tubs in the marble bathrooms, and fresh-cut flowers and candles (not that you would expect any less from a hotel conceived by four Venetian brothers). Even if romance isn’t on your agenda, all rooms seduce guests with walls dressed in silk, gilded mirrors, and drapes made from heavy damask. Some rooms are on the small side (Superior Rooms are approximately 301 square feet), but the tall headboards and high ceilings, and the color scheme of muted reds and golds make them feel much more spacious.
The public areas are just as lavish, from the dark wood–paneled late night Cigar Bar (which serves tumblers of cognac and brandy) to the two on-site restaurants. La Cucina is decorated with red leather panels and black-and-white photos of old-school Prague nightlife, and the upscale Inn Ox Lounge serves a range of cocktails and features live piano music on most nights. The spa houses an indoor swimming pool with a striking blue mosaic floor and a Turkish bath and sauna. There’s a variety of treatments on offer, from full-body massages to spiritual rejuvenation.
