Transformed from a quiet fishing village into a buzzing seaside resort, Thailand’s charming Hua Hin has long since proven itself as a dreamy beach-escape destination – even Thai royalty made their summer residences here in the 1920s. Today, its white stretch of sand is studded with seafood sellers and watersports centers, while the city itself offers vibrant markets and a distinctly cosmopolitan vibe.
Putahracsa Hua Hin is set right on the beach, offering direct access to Hua Hin’s much-loved shoreline. An attractive, low-rise resort, Putahracsa is built around calming water features, with some villas featuring their own private pools, while others feature outdoor Jacuzzis, for a truly secluded experience. The spa makes an excellent post-flight pit stop, while the oceanside restaurant and bar affords ample opportunities for sundown cocktails and dreamy dinners overlooking the beach. And should you feel like exploring Hua Hin, the hotel’s tuk tuk service makes it easy to venture out.
Oceanbed villas with an outdoor Jacuzzi are situated on the upper floors of the hotel. Each is decorated to a chic modern standard and comes complete with a king-size bed, an outdoor seating area and an outdoor Jacuzzi. Oceanbed Pool villas are located on the ground floor and also feature a king-size bed and an outdoor Jacuzzi, as well as a large private pool and a furnished terrace.
Sala Monsoon offers both breakfast and lunch in a relaxed environment, with an outdoor seating area shaded by umbrellas. Oceanside Restaurant and Beach club is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and occupies a scenic spot right by the beach. The open-air design lets the views do the talking, which are best enjoyed chilled on a throw cushion, cocktail in hand. There’s also an Oceanside Beach Bar, and Ob-Oon, a modern café serving baked delights, coffees and teas.
The hotel’s spa is a welcoming space that invites utter relaxation. Take some time out over a body massage or treatment, or revitalize with a facial. Waxing is also available, alongside hand and foot care. There’s also a small gym, with Technogym cardio machinery.
Putahracsa is situated in central Hua Hin, within walking distance of the night market and easy reach of the city’s attractions. A tuk tuk service is available to nearby destinations, making it easy to get around. There’s plenty to do in the area, including golf, bird-watching, eco-tours and mountain biking. Nearby Vic Hua Hin is a hub of activity, with art galleries, theaters and restaurants, while the Monsoon Valley Vineyard is a real draw for wine enthusiasts.
How to Get There
We arrived with no expectations, via car into Hua Hin, which is a much bigger city than expected. The various resorts seem to be very spread out, with some of the others we considered being a good half hour out of town. The Putahracsa wasnt in the thick of things, but close enough if you wanted to visit the night markets (which we did most nights for a cheap dinner) as there is an 'on demand' bus service to drop you off and the walk home was bearable once the heat of the day had dissipated. The resort is split into 2 sides with a wide, but very quiet road dividing it. There is a small Oceanside pool and the beach on one side & a larger main pool and the Sansky room's pool on the other. The beach is narrow & often smelt of rotten fish, the water is a bit murky & very flat. Not that this has anything to do with the resort, but fair warning if you are a beach goer.
We stayed in a Silksand room, on the 2nd level which was the very end room and seemed to be a bit larger than the rest due to the building shape. The rooms are quite spacious with plenty of spots for your luggage, however the bathroom is very awkward with the shower in the bath, which you needed a small step ladder to access. While a minor inconvenience for us, you would not want someone of limited flexibility or poor balance to attempt to bathe here. These rooms are around the main pool and on the non ocean side of road, we had no issue with being on this side as the ocean side pool was very small & the beach is almost unusable, plus the strong winds off the Gulf made the Oceanside less pleasant than the other side. Note that the ground floor Silksand rooms offered no privacy at all as they are totally open to the pool and provided only blockout curtains (no sheer privacy type options) which is not ideal as the rooms have no other windows so to pull your curtain for privacy, your room becomes totally dark. I strongly recommend a 2nd curtain rail with a sheer curtain be installed in these rooms. That said there was renovations underway in 1 block of these rooms, hopefully this will be rectified.
The main pool staff were excellent, friendly and good service. There didnt appear to be dedicated staff for the other pools, but then there was rarely anyone using them. Free snacks provided around the pool as well as cold water and great attention to the guests in making sure sun beds were promptly refreshed once the guest left.
The included breakfast buffet was great as was all food and beverage we tried at all of the resort's outlets. The espresso coffee was the best I had in 3 weeks of Thailand. The daily happy hour in the beach bar was a great surprise and ensured we never went elsewhere for an evening drink.
The spa was great, and reasonably priced compared to the other resorts on our trip so I advise making a booking if time allows.
The only negative for us was the poor wifi, I feel that perhaps you could unplug for the time you are there, but my husband was very cranky about it, complaining multiple times to the front desk. You were unable to watch Netflix even if you sat in the reception or the cafe (ie: close to wifi points) and you were lucky to be able to upload a pic to Insta in the room.
The butler service is high quality and the resort a lovely place to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. The pool villas are fantastic and the overall service at the hotel is great. Thanks for a pleasant stay.
OMG what a fantastic hotel. I can honestly say in all my years of travel that the Putaracsa is one of the best hotels my wife and I have ever stayed in.
Let me start with the staff. We have never enjoyed better service ever. So polite, so friendly and so so helpful and immaculately dressed into the bargain.
Next up is the accomodation. We upgraded to the Oceanside block with Jacuzzi (the hotel is split in 2) and were so glad we did. The bed was huge and super comfortable. The shower was modern and powerful and we made full use of the large Jacuzzi every night. The entertainment system was modern too with large screen television and bose sound system. Lastly was all the little goodies included in the toiletries...best I've ever seen.
Next is the food which again was truly amazing. We only ate evening meal on the first night which was delicious and very romantic eating in front of the beach. One of the best starters ever too (the Oceanside trio). I can honestly say as well that it was THE best hotel breakfast i have ever had in my life. I chose the a la carte Thai breakfast each day and covered most of the menu as well the blueberry pancakes. Super super tasty.
All the pools were very clean. We used the Oceanside pool to cool off and I used the 20m pool for my daily swim.
The gym is pretty basic but is in good condition and has everything you need. Water and fruit is also provided free throughout the hotel. I used the beach at the hotel for jogging which was perfect.
After a tough year my wife and I were looking for some relaxation which we found in ambundace at the Putaracsa.
Definitely will be back and would strongly recommend it to anyone staying in Hua Hin.
Stumbled upon the Green Onion off the back of a chance conversation with a couple in a bar.
I love my bbq and have tasted many a good rib out in the states but the Green Onion is up there with the best of them.
Owner Brian took us thru the menu and we opted for a pulled pork burger, the new Devine swine burger (pork tenderloin) and a half rack of ribs to split. All came with super tasty home made slaw and potato salad. It was a major challenge but we just about managed to finish it albeit with a serious meat sweat. All three were super delicious and I can honestly say they were one of the best ribs I've ever tasted. The Devine swine was totally different and Brian is onto a winner.
We loved it so much we went back for our final night in Hua hin. This time we punted for a full rack of ribs and a pulled pork burger to split. Ashamed to say but we failed to finish with 3 ribs remaining but you will agree it was a fine effort given the size. See the photo against my wife's arm.
The owner Brian takes time out to chat and even bought us a drink on our last night. The prices are very reasonable given the standard of food and the alcohol is cheap too.
All in all a fantastic memorable eating experience.
