Stand-alone residence-style retreat within the Sheraton Algarve Hotel, with a private beach, pools and an endless activity list
Algarvian. The low-rise Pine Cliffs Residences are a relaxed world away from the main Sheraton Algarve Hotel. A hardwood- and marble-bedecked reception area leads to a flower-and-tree-ringed swimming pool and restaurant. The main building and the residences themselves reflect traditional Algarvian architecture, with whitewashed walls and tile roofs. Calm browns and creams, as well as plenty of outdoor spaces, help keep the ambience relaxed and guests feeling cool.
Bed and Bath
The stone and tile floors of the two- and three-bedroom residences are designed to cope with both the warm weather and guests trooping back and forth to the beach and pools. Large bathrooms feature marble sink units and are floored with ceramic tiles, while the modern kitchens come with Siemens appliances. The color scheme in the living areas is traditional and neutral, with light browns and rich creams, with brighter blue sofas and armchairs. Bedrooms all have their own flat-screen TVs and outdoor seating areas overlooking the lush grounds.
Pine Cliffs spreads out from a decent stretch of sandy Atlantic beach, which is reachable by elevator and wooden walkway. The Sheraton Algarve Hotel is the epicenter of resort life, with the majority of the dozen restaurants and bars. For families the Porto Pirata is an impressively well-designed children’s park, with both free and paid activities, ranging from mini-golf to supervised classes. Including the pool at the residences, there are five outdoor swimming pools and one heated indoor pool, as well as a health club with a gym and spa. Other leisure facilities include tennis courts and a nine-hole golf course and Golf Academy.
In the Area
The residences lie a taxi ride or long walk from Albufeira, but those who venture to town should have a meal at Restaurante Dom Carlos, which has superb five-course set menus featuring fresh fish and shellfish. The restaurants at the new Albufeira Marina development west of the resort include Vila Joya, which has garnered two Michelin stars under the stewardship of Austrian-born chef Dieter Koschina. For local color, plan a visit to the nearby inland town of Loulé during its Saturday market, where you'll find local pottery, a fantastic souvenir.
