Interesting decor - funky vibe - great location in Porto!
Reviewed 3 days ago

While I loved all the attempts with the decor to pay homage to this hotel building's previous life as a theatre it's a little too dramatic for me to improve the rating to 5 stars. The hallways are dark and in the evening the lighting is in random locations so it's easy to get confused and turn the wrong direction. While the room was comfortable there was no space in the bathroom to lay out your toiletry kit and very few hooks for either towels or a bathrobe. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with the best nutella filled donuts I've ever had! The hotel's location in central Porto is awesome - easy walking distance to the river, the shopping areas and I loved having to walk past the gorgeous blue tiled train station (Porto Sao Bento) several times a day!

Location is perfect in the city center lots of things to do. Hotel wise is not bad, bed is comfortable and clean, the room settings are different I got a shower which was perfect and my friend got a bathtub which is very fancy but not quite good for people that prefers to use shower because you can't stop the water from tripping out. The only concern is the lighting in the room is it quite dark and the breakfast was awesome.

Cool Digs Ruined by Bad Attitudes in the Heart of Porto
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

I really wanted to love this theater-themed hotel in the heart of old Porto. You swing open the heavy metal doors and enter a dimly lit lobby that is decorated with movie murals and vintage costumes. Black & white movies run in a loop in the bar. Cool vibe - although the hallways take the dark theater theme a bit too far. We get it: THEATER. But you want to be able to see your way to your room! Still, you feel like you've hit the jackpot. The rooms don't disappoint either. Modern, clean, and well appointed. Great beds. Thick towels. But more than the physical plant, a great hotel experience requires great staff. And this is where the Hotel Teatro fails - specifically in the bar and hotel restaurant. The bartender either hated us or hated his job; I couldn't tell. But not once during our stay were we warmly received or pleasantly served. Absolutely no appreciation for our patronage. He was uniformly unpleasant the entire stay. Additionally, one evening six of my travel friends were seated in the restaurant but then told they couldn't be served for at least 30 minutes - and there were only FOUR other people in the entire restaurant! When we approached the front desk to express concerns about the service, staff seemed either uninterested in responding or either powerless to do so. Hotel Teatro needs to rethink their approach to hospitality. It takes more than a beautiful facility to achieve guest satisfaction. Unless you thrive on neglect, this might not be the best choice for your stay in Porto.

Great Location and nice hotel

The hotel is in a very good location! The staff is so helpful and friendly. The hotel is dark but still a nice, clean, modern hotel. Does not have that European feel. They offer a good breakfast! Recommend!

Real unique hotel!

Great location, in the middle of downtown Porto. They have indoor parking service.
The hotel really looks like a theater, it is pretty cool, illuminators, cameras, costumes everywhere. The rooms are good size, well equiped, but a little bit interesting. See through glass doors on the bathroom and the toilet, and all premisis are in one air space. Exmample: if you you wash your teeth at the sink, you see the person in the toilet behind you. I would only reccomend it for couples :)
Breakfast is really good, great selection of food. Hotel staff is nice and polite.
We only had one annoying experience. The hotel pre-charged 150% (?!) of the booking. When we checked out we paid the bill, and they said that the pre-charged amount will be released in 3 workdays. Yeah right, after 3 weeks i had to contact my bank to do something about the pre-charged amount because it was still there, but the bank could not do anything, and the hotel ended up releasing the amount after 5 weeks, ridiculous.
