Very pleasant hotel. Lovely room and bathroom and very good bteakfast.
Doorman very helpful.hotel has it's own parking which was useful.
The reception staff were friendly and had good local knowledge.
wonderful hotel, good central location, staff really helpful; went to the restaurant there for an evening meal - had the taster menu - really recommend - absolutely excellent.
the decore in the hotel is really interesting, also the way the bedrooms are laid out - only downside was it was a little on the dark side, but maybe that was down to my old eyes, highly recommend it for a nice weekend away.
For us this was a perfectly located hotel close to the main centre. The reception staff were exceptional - welcoming and so helpful with suggestions of where to visit and storing and moving luggage. The rooms were very comfortable. It does take time to get used to the gloom and the breakfast is decidingly average but would stay here again.
We'd read the reviews, seen the hotel on a couple of websites, and were drawn by its promise of style and quirkiness. So we knew what to expect - perhaps unlike some others here who, in our view, have given it an unfairly low score. The staff were unfailingly courteous and welcoming, especially the bar manager who gave us a very personal (and extended...!) port tasting experience. So what would it have taken for us to have have given it 5 stars? Two things - firstly, the restaurant (which was somehow too 'open' to work in the evenings), and a couple of aspects about the room. We had a 'gallery room', and were told it was one of the larger ones. It was barely big enough, so the others must be really quite small. And the bathroom needs better lighting - this is the one part of the whole place where functionality should conquer 'style'. But overall we enjoyed our stay - and yes, we'd recommend it. But our message to the hotel is simply this - solve the bathroom lighting, leave the rest of the place moody, and we're sure you'll find it'll be worth it.
