How to Get There
The vines, the architecture and the location offer beauty and a sense of rest. The staff are welcoming, the wine is lovely and I was sad to leave, so will have to return. I enjoyed all my meals, particularly dinner when wine made from their vines was invited every evening.
Monverde was fantastic from start to finish. We only stayed one night but wish we had booked for longer. Fantastic service, scenery and experience! Many of the rooms overlook the vineyards, and there is a spa/pool on site.
We planned a four week trip to Spain and Portugal and we booked six months ahead to stay at Monverde Wine hotel the first weekend in June. We had a confirmation. It was to be the last weekend of our trip. We learned during our trip a week before we were to arrive that they had overbooked the hotel and they emailed that they could no longer accommodate us Saturday night! What? This is a difficult thing to deal with when you are on vacation traveling. They offered to put us up at an inferior hotel 10 km away. Unacceptable! We tried calling several times and we were passed from one staff member to the next. Oddly, on one call they thought we were another guest that also got bumped, so we were not an isolated event. I’m sure this was due to Festo do Juhno that was occurring that weekend, but it is flat out wrong to bump people that are traveling halfway around the world and force them to scramble. We changed our plans at the last minute, found a nice hotel in Guimaraes, but they refused to provide any compensation for all the inconvenience they put us through! This is a horrible way to run a hotel.
Staff don’t know anything About wine , i asked a glass of the open white wine, and they Said it was Not available ( no problem), but presented a red wine in stead. Wonderfull place and stunning view , but Some structures Not so Good, Next to the swimming pool is wood ( banquarai ), and our daughter (2 y old) her feet were full of wood piles ( and so are ours)... they have to inform Families ( for sure with children) to keep shoes On!
Coffee in the Morning is really bad , why no breakfast outside ?
Anyhow wonderfull place to visit
Amazing dinner, served by an attentive and knowledgeable staff. Will return, and hopefully will stay there, too. Excellent wine list, our choice of Quinta do Chocopalha 2010 Vila Mea was flawlessly decanted. Modern and warm surrounding.
