Weekender favorite in Portland’s historic district, with a popular seafood restaurant and old-fashioned service
Wrapped around an inviting garden courtyard, the four-story, 101-room Portland Harbor Hotel links the cobblestoned, boutique-lined Old Port to the waterfront, where sailboats depart for lighthouse-viewing, island-hopping and lobster-catching excursions. Public spaces have the air of a traditional private home, with patterned carpets, leather wingback chairs and a fireplace in the lobby, and sailing memorabilia and dark wood floors in the lounge.
Bed and Bath
Recently revamped guestrooms retain traditional colonial-inspired accents, from the carved wood headboards and hardwood floors to antique-style writing desks. Deluxe Rooms are a spacious 320 square feet and have views across the city, while Suites add space to spread out in separate living rooms. All bathrooms have granite vanities, showers and bathtubs, plus relaxing whirlpools in Jacuzzi Suites.
This is one of the few hotels in Portland with a restaurant on-site; Eve’s at the Garden is a formal spot for seasonal fare and local seafood. Reasonably priced valet parking ($16 per night) makes it easy to take a spin out to the beach, the lighthouses or even to Freeport, and there’s also a car service for trips to local restaurants. Bikes and helmets are free for all to use, and there are coffee, tea and newspapers in the lobby each morning.
