Family-friendly retreat near local favorite Nai Yang Beach, with a huge lagoon pool and an intimate spa
This tropical retreat near Nai Yang Beach puts all the things you come to Phuket for — sand! sea! water sports! nightlife! — at your fingertips. Classic Sino-Portuguese architecture, seclusion fit for honeymooners and a spot by the beach — these are the hallmarks of Phuket’s brand of paradise, and with the Dewa as your base, you can tap into it all. Set on palm tree–studded grounds, the villas and suites wrap around a free-form lagoon pool, and breezy open-air lounges dot the resort.
Bed and Bath
Each of the Dewa's 34 villas is decked out with a four-poster bed stacked high with multicolored pillows, a fully stocked bar, a flat-screen TV and plenty of thoughtful extras, such as white terrycloth robes and an overflowing plate of local fruit. But you may find yourself spending most of your time outdoors: All villas come with a private plunge pool, an open-air rain shower and a deep freestanding bathtub. For those looking for extra space, the Family Suites sleep up to six and have fully equipped kitchens and balconies. The resort has 96 units (Suites and Villas) in all.
Sunbathers have a tough decision to make: to lounge poolside or beachside. The allure of Nai Yang Beach’s powdery soft sand at low tide is hard to beat, but the crystal-clear water of the snaking pool will also tempt you (there’s a traditional lap pool, too). Beyond helping you get some sun, the resort can also direct you to the kiteboarding school down the beach, or you can book an invigorating white tea salt scrub in the spa. When the sun sets, head to the Terrace Grill for a hearty steak — the best way to fuel up for an evening of beach bar–hopping.
In the Area
Looking for an adrenaline rush? Phuket is renowned for world class kiteboarding. Sign up at one of the island’s best schools, Kiteboarding Asia, to experience this mashup of surfing, paragliding and gymnastics. The island’s famous Blue Canyon Country Club is about a 20-minute drive from the resort. As the staff will proudly tell you, Tiger Woods once said the course was one of the best he’d ever played on — and with that stamp of approval, you’re sure to have an enjoyable day on the green. The Dewa offers a ton of organized activities scheduled daily, with opportunities to take aqua aerobics, yoga, Thai boxing and more. The kids are also covered, with a long list of fun activities, such as face painting, pizzamaking and drawing.
