An upscale beach vibe pervades this villa resort in Khao Lak, a paradisiacal stretch of Andaman coastline about 65 miles north of Phuket. Guests sprawl out in spacious villas equipped with private gardens, plunge pools and butler services. When you tire of all that luxury, snag a lounge chair at the outdoor pool overlooking the Andaman Sea or head to the rooftop bar for a cocktail and panoramic views of Khao Lak. On-site restaurants satisfy practically any craving: You can feast on Indian food at Kuk Kak, tuck into Italian classics at Mosaic, sample the four distinct types of Thai cuisine at Baan Thai, or get your fill of fresh seafood at Bamboo, a beachfront grill shaded by palm trees.
In the Area
No one would blame you for spending every single day in Khao Lak at the beach. The quieter, family-friendly answer to raucous Phuket has more than 15 miles of the stunning jungle-meets-water coastline that made Thai beaches famous in the first place. Spend your days checking out the various white sands, borrow a bike from the hotel to tool around town, or book a round at the nearby Tublamu golf course. Whatever you do, make time to watch the sunset: All of the beaches face west.
How to Get There
We would have had a lovely stay at Robinsons if not for the crappy weather but I can't fault the hotel for that. The staff were all amazing and so hospitable.
Most amazing part of the trip was that we had booked for 3 nights but because the weather was so bad, we decided to drive towards Bangkok earlier so wanted to check out after 2 nights. After checking for us, they were unable to refund the third night but they gave it to us in hotel credit that we used to contra against all our other expenses there. Loved it!
Not the first Robinson I stayed in but one of my favorites :)
Amazing food choices during the meals, a huge pool area all around the hotel, numerous activities as usual for Robinson and a nice sandy and clean beach :)
All staff made my stay one of the most amazing experience during my Thailand trip!!
Many thanks to the whole team especially Guest Relations for helping me sorting out different things.
Also a huge thank you to the Laundry department who managed to clean and therefore safe my favorite shirts!!! (after multiple previous laundrys couldn't).
Many thanks to Marc and Martin, for all the fun and laughs. You guys do an amazing job. Already miss the volleyball games and your costumes :D
Thank you, Benny for some fun Get Together Tennis and a amazing private lesson, even though you made me run :D
Only one thing I was surprised to see was that many water related activities were not free of charge, which is not actually very common at other Robinson Hotels.
We were a little apprehensive about the trip due to reading previous reviews, however we went with open minds. The transfers were great and all polite attention given to us. We arrived at the hotel at 7.30 am and checked in efficiently, we then went for breakfast, the buffet breakfast was amazing and you can arrange to have fresh pancakes, omelettes or eggs in general anyway to like. We then went to the beach and were met by paradise, quiet and sun beds a plenty with the lapping waves the only sound. Plenty of umbrellas if a little warm for some. The swimming pools are clean and empty we literally had them to ourselves most days and played on the slides or swam around the lagoon style pool for some exercise. The buffet lunch and dinners could not be faulted the food is freshly cooked for you plenty of fish and protein dishes after all the workouts, with all the veg or fruit you could wish for. We did a few of the classes mainly TRX, spin and Palates, we spoke to the instructors prior to the sessions so they new we were English and were very accommodating, speaking in both German and English throughout, the classes were excellent, we really felt inspired by the instructors to keep up and keep going! They were also friendly and knowledgeable when asked about nutritional ideas. The nighttime activities are not really our thing, but I must say they put on great displays and worked really hard to make sure you were enjoying yourself, the Thai market night was fab, as too was the Neon party themed night, great DJ’s brought in from around the world and we were up and dancing most nights, with everyone else. A shout out to some people who made it for us Kristin in customer relations, you dragged us out most nights and to our benefit 🙂, Gerald CR Manager, Oop for never leaving me with an empty glass and Dream for making sure we could fit more food on our table. We would definitely return here once we’ve got over the 14 hour flight.
We arrived at Robinson Khao Lak tentatively as we had only booked it the night before for 3 nights due to being so disappointed with another resort nearby.
Thank god we did! We managed to get a Superior pool bungalow. The pool is large with seating and space to move your lounger in. You get two sun loungers, outdoor dining area and a shaded outdoor sofa. Bed, room and bathroom all large, clean and comfortable. Water provided daily and can ask for more if required.
We wandered around the resort a few times and always found a new area. It is massive this place!! Loads of activities on site but if you are like us and just want to lay down and read a book then this place is great for that too. The beach is clean, plenty of sunbeds, bean bags and a swing :)
Full board is a bonus! Buffet is big, clean, well stocked and a nice environment to eat in.
Pool villas have access to The Terrace which is a separate place to go for your buffet breakfast.
They will happily transport you to and from places on site as it could be too far for some people to easily walk and in our case we had some heavy downpours we needed to escape from.
Brilliant stay. Would come back as a couple but also highly recommend to families.
I stayed here last week for 3 nights as part of a multi centre trip with work.
It's a 90 minute transfer from Phuket airport. Upon entering you can see the beautiful grounds and the tennis courts. The main entrance is open air and you really get that nice tropical feeling with natural light, as it's quite peaceful you can hear the birds so you feel straight away that you will have a relaxing stay.
I had room 211 on the same floor as reception - there are only 2 floors here and there are ramps and lifts so is wheelchair accessible.
Rooms are lovely and big and a bathroom with a walk in shower and a bath.
My balcony faced the pool which was classed as an activity pool which was huge but not noisy at all as it led to the pool by the main bar close to the beach.
The beach was beautiful golden sand and huge with a beach bar on the beach and water sports and you get a free hour to try these daily from paddle boarding to kayaking and they do morning and sunset sports and if you want to pay for any of them they start from 200 baht which is around £4.60 for 1 person kayak for 60 minutes.
They do beach parties with dj, dancers, fire acts on the beach, singers and the evenings really come alive without being too rowdy - everyone enjoyed this with plenty of good cocktails.
The food was plentiful and fresh with choices for everyone - from Thai to Indian and pasta, it was so delicious and they have an in house German baker who I met and they bake the bread fresh daily. Smoothies at breakfast and lots of healthy options too which fits in well with this hotel type as it's for active people as well as those who want to relax with great facilities.
Thouroughly enjoyed my stay here but as Khao Lak is a quiet resort there isn't a huge amount to do but the hotel does offer a shuttle into town and they have some great excursions available as the hotel is set in the national park so if you like nature, jungle treks and want to experience a different side to Thailand without hundereds of tourists and clubs and bars then this hotel would be perfect for you.
I would definitely return but as part of a multi or twin centre holiday to get the best of both worlds.
