An upscale beach vibe pervades this villa resort in Khao Lak, a paradisiacal stretch of Andaman coastline about 65 miles north of Phuket. Guests sprawl out in spacious villas equipped with private gardens, plunge pools and butler services. When you tire of all that luxury, snag a lounge chair at the outdoor pool overlooking the Andaman Sea or head to the rooftop bar for a cocktail and panoramic views of Khao Lak. On-site restaurants satisfy practically any craving: You can feast on Indian food at Kuk Kak, tuck into Italian classics at Mosaic, sample the four distinct types of Thai cuisine at Baan Thai, or get your fill of fresh seafood at Bamboo, a beachfront grill shaded by palm trees.
In the Area
No one would blame you for spending every single day in Khao Lak at the beach. The quieter, family-friendly answer to raucous Phuket has more than 15 miles of the stunning jungle-meets-water coastline that made Thai beaches famous in the first place. Spend your days checking out the various white sands, borrow a bike from the hotel to tool around town, or book a round at the nearby Tublamu golf course. Whatever you do, make time to watch the sunset: All of the beaches face west.
How to Get There
My wife and I have just returned from 10 days at this resort ( we are from Melbourne )
booked through Luxury Escapes. So, accommodation with private pool excellent, Food great variety and every dish we had was good, Drinks with meals were fine ( included in the package). The language was a very minor issue but no different to going to any country where English is not the national language, we always had a few laughs communicating with the locals who were always very friendly. We were certainly made to feel welcomed and inclusive. We were the only two Australians in the Yoga classes but the Swiss instructor told the mostly German class that she would give the class in English first then German, we thought this was very courteous to us. Beach was ok, not clear water ( we knew this before we got there) but warm and good body surfing waves.
We had a great day doing a Thai cooking class with Wandee in Khao Lak, a must-do
Altogether we were very impressed with this resort.
We've just returned from a fortnight at Robinson Club. We had our two teenage boys with us so always a challenge to find something for everyone. The full board basis meant that days in many ways revolved around food, but there was always a good range of both western and Thai to appeal to all tastes and appetites so the only real problem was over- indulgence, The free wi-fi was both a blessing and a pain but again for teenagers a real plus. The beach was lovely and offered the opportunity to amble along it or just to watch it from the Bamboo bar. The range of pools meant a choice of quiet or more boisterous activity. We supplemented our stay with a number of full day trips via external operators which though on the face of it costly, were well worth it and gave a balance to the relaxed and enclosed experience of the Club. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, with any issues quickly resolved. We actually quite enjoyed the mixed nationality of the club - both German and English were used interchangeably so didn't really present us with a problem. Overall, highly recommended.
I always try to be honest in my opinion when writing feedback..this one will be most difficult as im so torn in two regarding my feedback.
I originally booked with luxury escapes and we are from Melbourne Australia..
With an upgrade in mind talking to the Robinson team we upgraded to a ocean view bungalow pool suite.. BEST DECISION WE MADE!
Once we arrived last Tuesday 6th of August we we were greeted at the airport by our private driver.
Being our first visit to Thailand, we just wanted to talk to our driver and learn about the culture as we drove on our 90 minute destination to the resort.. Here is my first disappointment as the driver did not speak any English and that frustrated me as we had so many questions about our hotel, where we were, temperature at this time of year etc and he couldn’t help and was a very quiet 90 minute drive.
Our impression when we arrived was in awe!
the service at front reception was very welcoming and friendly. When we were taken to our bungalow and we walked inside for the first time, I was completely blown away how beautiful and serene it was.
I thought this is just beautiful and breathtaking!
Paradise In heaven, a perfect romantic getaway!
Outside was even better, our own private oasis..
So seeing this tropical beauty I want to say that I should of been in complete bliss..
The gardens everywhere are stunning, the pools are sparkling clean. And I will say straight out the food the whole time we were there was lovely with lots of variety..
So here is where writing this feedback pains me as this resort has everything you need at your disposal but so many little things broke down my wow factor and I felt robbed and let down in what I was hoping for here..
My first issue, was the beer and wine package,
No sweet wine or even a champagne to have.
Beer was average my partner said and for me, this was no benefit in being all inclusive with these drinks.
The second was in the evening dinner, to sit outside the restaurant you have to buy a bottle of wine during the day to be able to enjoy a scenic view which the cheapest bottle was about $50 Australian.
So if you don’t drink? You are excluded?
The third was the bar prices for example I felt were too dear.. I ordered a vodka and lemonade and that was approx $15.00 Australian which to me was about the same price as a cocktail ..
Now this is only my opinion, but every drink I ordered was terrible.. I ordered an espresso martini and it tasted that bad, I couldn’t even drink it.
My forth issue was being Australian, as written many times on this site, it’s very German orientated and over 70 per cent of the guests are German ..and most things I found very much around the hotel catered for them.
An example here is we were sitting at the Bamboo bar, and while we were there, a lady came and set up a game ( Like a trivia game ) for example and we thought “great a game to play how cool, this should be fun “.. only to our dismay, the whole game was played in German and we just sat there like idiots.
So may times walking around, we felt isolated and very lonely at times.
Also the resort itself is very isolated and the nearest town is about 15 minutes away.
We had a Complimentary Spa with our luxury escape deal.. when I booked the lady speaking struggled understanding me or me her, so she started literally yelling at me through the phone and I was completely shocked.
We did have a lovely massage, at the resort, but guys if your reading this and have to pay for a massage. Walk straight out on to the beach and turn right, 50 metres down was a massage hut that gave
The best massages for more than half of the price cheaper and they were amazing .. further down the beach is also another bar that has the best cocktails and half of the price..
The only other thing I want to mention for the ladies, pack lots of thongs just in case when it rains, the walking paths flood and you cannot wear your good shoes and then not be ruined by massive deep puddles if the heavens come down..
So flip flops, thongs are a must to bring!
But on the upside of this negative feedback are many positives.. we had a massive issue with water coming thru our ceiling and the team were on to it straight away..
And the beautiful Matrise, offered us a beautiful dinner for 2 and we were very impressed with his generosity and his understanding of our situation.
The service and house cleaning was friendly and very helpful..
the staff and upper level management were always around, entertaining and very friendly.
The resort is picturesome, clean, and very lovely.. looking in need of repair in places, but nothing I felt that was bad..
The entertainment I felt was very poor and this is again where I feel let the venue down..
It’s like they have the right ideas with lots of activities in place but just have the delivery all wrong.
So I’ll say this, if you are people wanting a complete getaway and privacy.. this place is perfect. the hotel was at 80 percent capacity and I swear we thought no one was there..
On the upside, there are always plenty of sun loungers and seating, the pools were very quiet and as I said the food was amazing..
If you are part of the villas or the bungalow, the private breakfast near the beach is incredible.
I will say as a positive in my feedback .. this is the one resort where I will take my hat off and say once again.. the ocean view, 10 metre pool by the beach was incredible and worth the upgrade in so many ways.
there are so many pools around, the environment around the resort feels safe and friendly and great for families or couples.
To management reading this feedback, luxury escapes are working hard to bring the aussies to your lovely resort. My feedback is I wish the drinks during happy hour were better, more choice and cheaper at least during that time.
I wish you had added sweet wine into the deal as not everyone is a dry wine drinker or even maybe add champagne into the choice.
More interaction with multi cultured guest to participate in the activities would make everyone feel more welcome..
Also a shuttle service for free would also help guests not feel so far from everything even especially for example during the day for even 2 hours would help.
Last I truly felt the bar staff need more training in making the drinks and breaking down language barriers at times.
and lastly for me I felt very sad that I couldn’t enjoy that magnificent view during dinner as I couldn’t buy a wine that I could drink and not everyone is a wine drinker and $50 Australian was quite expensive just to enjoy a view..
Would I come back again? Half of me loved it and the other half was unsure..
But I will say I loved every second of our beautiful villa overlooking the beach..that view was priceless x
