How to Get There
It was a great beginning - a welcoming check in with smooth friendly service and a drink with a view. We did have to wait a couple of hours for the room, even though it was 55% occupancy according to the front desk. Perhaps she shouldn’t have told us that fact. We hung around at the restaurant Lom Lay to the right (when facing water at beach) of the hotel estate - and this was the start of an almost daily visit there as the food was cheap and really tasty! Don’t bother with the hotel restaurant. It’s really only one option to eat outside, but a fantastic one.
We finally got into the room but the luggage took another half hour to arrive. The room itself is great, huge bed. The sink plug got stuck at some point and when we called reception to fix it, no one ended up coming. Fixed only by room service the following day. They charge for ice, they charge 150% over norm at the tour desk, and get ready for a party of geckos outside the room on your walk back at night. The welcome fruit basket in the room did not make up for these inadequacies, so while the estate looks amazing and the service staff are very friendly, the operation needs improvement.
Couldn’t get late check out (perhaps they received 45% more occupancy suddenly?) but they do offer a shower room if needed before you leave the hotel, assuming you stay on the estate.
3rd Visit and still impressed.
Upon arrival it was so welcoming seeing the same staff that were here on our first stay. They recognised us straight away and made us feel so special. It was our daughters birthday and we had been in touch with resort months earlier to arrange a cake. To our suprise they all wished our daughter a happy birthday and made her feel like she was amongst friends and family.
This time we booked a "pool villa" and we were not dissapointed. Large, clean and cool room. Bed was so comfortable we struggled to get out of it in the morning.
We purchased "half board dining" and ate our dinners at Pad Thai each night. My wife has been craving the squid ink seafood pasta from our last stay and she was so happy to still find it on the menu. She was even happier when it arrived and in her element consuming it. I was advised by the staff to try the pork belly and it was simply outstanding.
There was a wedding on whilst we were there and the area they set up on the beach side looked amazing. Unfortunately there was some bad weather comming in and we felt so sorry for the wedding party. What we witnessed next was worthy of a mention. The staff spoke with the wedding party and appeared to place them into a really calming mood. We then watched the staff move the entire setup under cover and they made it look absolutely stunning. The wedding went ahead and all looked like they had a fantastic time. They also got one of the best sunsets we have ever seen.
The staff from reception, concierge, breakfast, Pad Thai and house keeping were all so nice.
Our daughter was simply blown away to receive not only a birthday cake but well wishes from staff she remembers. She still believes you make the best waffles.
Thank you Manathai, a really memorable stay. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
