The monk who sold his Porsche

Came to this lovely and friendly hotel alone to recharge my batteries and reflect of my past and why I wanted to achieve in the future.

Great clean room that was just a step away from their beach. Enjoyed that long cozy walks along the beach, their gym was really good and it was easy to get massage slots the time you wanted.

It is 15 km from the center of Khao Lak and that fitted me well as it is much calmer here. Feels like living on an island of your own and have access to your own strip of beach.

Friendly staff and always helpful you should require any sort of service.

Highly recommended!

Beautiful location, but remote

We had a separate villa with outdoor 'bath'. Room and bathroom were very nice with outdoor balcony overlooking lily pond (with many frogs calling at night). Fruit platter each day and bottled water supplied. Manathai is located 1.5 hrs drive north of Phukett so remote. Half hours drive from Khao Lak village and shopping facilities. The resort is large with beautiful swimming pool & spa adjacent to beach, it has plenty of sun loungers and massage facilities an outdoor bar and restaurant. It is a long way to walk to either the restaurant & front office to the beach, so wherever your room is located there will be a lot of walking to do. If you pay for the more expensive Villa accommodation you get free shuttle to Khao Lak daily, plus the resorts golf cart can be use complimentary to travel around the resort. Breakfast menu adequate catering for European and Asian diets. Front office staff have some difficulty understanding English. Recommended if you want to get away from it all, as it is at a remote location.

Good all-round hotel

Stayed here with a group of friends for 8 nights recently. Checkin swift and friendly, soon within our rooms which are well played out spacious contemporary in style, but not very Thai in style. preferred traditional wooden flooring rather than vinyl veneer, but like the rooms all the same. One set of friends booked a pool villa, and similar in furnishings but much preferred the style.

The pool are was never too crowded despite the numbers staying and found the poolside service swift and reasonable. As one would expect in Thailand the staff were excellent and friendly.

Breakfast was in the main restraunt there was a selection of eastern and western food, however for western tastes the combination of the western food who most the clientel was a bit unusaual. The quality of the food otherwise was excellent and even on some of the event nights we ate in the hotel and found the food to be very good too. Note they are offers of prepaying your room charges and buying credits which are well worth considering and gaining extra credit for free, bring down the costs and some offering free massage treatments, but also some of our friends found owing to it being busy took some time to get booked

Peaceful haven

If you like peace and quite on a picturesque shoreline this hotel is for you.
On first arrival you may wonder where everyone is. Some are by the pool and on sunbeds overlooking the beach but in our room we hardly heard any noise. In fact we didn’t wake up til 11am on the first morning.
No noise from next doors plumbing or even from our rooms en suite. No noise from corridor. Only occasional door being closed.
No noise from building work on the other side of the hotel. So very quiet.
Huge room. Huge bed. Huge shower.
The time when you see most people is breakfast. One criticism would be that they want to serve you tea and coffee but it was difficult to catch the eye of staff for a first cup and then a refill. At the beginning of our stay there seemed to be a designated member of staff for this task but towards the end they seemed more keen on clearing and relating the tables.
A word of caution: be careful of the steps by the pool at nighttime. They are poorly lit.
Torches are provided in rooms which are useful for beach walking to the local eateries. 10 minute walk in either direction along beach takes you to Be Friend or Sunrise. Both recommended.
There is no communal focal area in the hotel in the evening but a friendly beach bar Brown Sugar beside Lom Lay next to the hotel provides a chance to chat with others while enjoying a cocktail. They also have sun loungers which can be used during the day. So you can have your own private beach view. As do Be Friend.
The beach looks deserted as all hotels are behind the tree line and lower than the trees. Also no umbrellas or loungers are on the beach.
If you like a walk: 6miles to end of the bay and 7 to the other peninsula. Taxis are available at both ends.
White sand beach and Memories beach are both recommended.
2 local waterfalls are both worth visiting.
Car hire pricey and would have to travel quite a distance for any sightseeing.
This hotel is for relaxation.

Wonderful resort on quiet beach.
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We were looking for a hotel that was the complete opposite of the Phuket resorts and we found it here. The resort is set in beautiful gardens with a lovely big pool and a beachfront bar/restaurant, lots of sun lounges and umbrellas if you want shade.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and I recommend them highly.
The hotel was very upfront with us before we booked and let us know that a resort is being built next door and they had no control over noise etc. We requested a room in the north wing which is away from the construction site and we were never bothered by noise. Occasionally there was construction noise when we were eating at the beach bar but it was nothing major and didn’t affect our enjoyment of the resort.
The beach here is wonderful, a long sandy stretch, good swimming and no jet skis or hawkers.
There are several small restaurants if you turn left on the beach and walk for about 5 minutes.
There is a shuttle bus from the hotel into Khao Lak but it only runs after 2pm. If you want to go into the town in the morning go down to the gatehouse on the main road and you will be able to get a taxi - the going rate was 300 baht one way (about $12 Aussie).
Overall we had a wonderful relaxing week here and we’ll definitely be back.
