How to Get There
The hotel is close to the airport and the stay is worth the price. I enjoyed the drinks and the food in the restaurant. I was also lucky to get a waitress who was serious about providing a good dining experience. My complaint is with the front desk upon departure. I stayed at the hotel to be close to the airport due to flights being cancelled and the weather being bad. I called prior to making a reservation to see if I could get a van to and from the airport. Everything was perfect until the end of my stay when the front desk and van driver refused to take me to the airport to catch a flight out. Now I realize that this is a courtesy, but Inquired and was told the service would be provided prior to coming down to the front desk to head to the airport. It did not happen and I had to catch and pay for a taxi to he to the airport. I arrived 10 mins prior to flt departure. I only made it because they had a delay in boarding and the downstairs desk was able to call the gate to wait. It was a stressful experience. I just would have prefer better customer service. I am a disabled veteran traveling with a service dog. I promised that I did not need the extra stress.
We booked a room with breakfast rate at the Hilton to attend a family funeral. Starting with the complimentary airport shuttle that can be booked in advance, it was clear why this hotel has such a loyal following. Everyone from the front desk to the shuttle drivers to the restaurant staff to the cleaning personnel were super-friendly and helpful, during a difficult time including inclement weather. I'd like to single out Bernard in particular for his great service getting me to the airport. The breakfast buffet is substantial and well-prepared, and the evening pub dining was also well above average. It's clear the management of this hotel cares about creating happy customers. While my trips to the area may be limited in future, I will make sure to book the Hilton!
We arrived as a family in Scranton Friday evening to attend my mother's funeral the next day. On checking in Sarah asked our reason for choosing Hilton and when I explained our situation she and the staff were so kind. I told her that many of us from out of town were arriving and were hoping to have dinner together but we were a large group. She began to call some restaurants and found an excellent one to accommodate us on such short notice. On Saturday we needed a room for a breakfast or early lunch for friends and family and they provided us a room off of the main dining room. The service was excellent and the attention to detail was great. I want to thank Sarah and the rest of the staff of the Hilton for their kindness during such a difficult time.
We are extremely disappointed with our 2/9/19 stay at the Hilton Scranton.
Below is a summary of our experience:
We arrived at 4:30PM and my wife took our daughters (9 & 11) to the room while I parked our car. A woman in the fifth floor hallway was shouting profanities and my wife informed her she was scaring our daughters. The woman screamed "shut up you fu@king b*tch" several times to my wife and daughters. A guest witnessed this and tried to intervene. When I arrived at the front desk my wife and daughters were really upset and wanted to switch rooms, my youngest daughter was crying. The guest who intervened told us a group staying on the fifth floor made a lot of noise the night before disturbing he and his wife and reported it to the front desk.
We reported the incident to the front desk and requested to switch rooms since my wife and daughters did not feel safe and needed to get up early for a soccer tournament. The front desk staff was sympathetic and we were given a room (#320). Security investigated the incident and reported the woman that screamed at my family has a bad hip. How does a bad hip excuse someone from screaming profanities at a stranger with small children?
We checked into our room and everything was OK. Our daughters enjoyed the swimming pool and the soccer team had a group dinner at the hotel restaurant.
We went to bed at 11PM but could hear music from the HVAC vents. I called the front desk and was told me there was a party on the second floor. I replied it sounds like a DJ and the manager confirmed it was and the private party was scheduled to 2AM. I was stunned, a loud party with a DJ running to 2AM inside a hotel with guest rooms surrounding it? We tried to deal with it but our daughters could not sleep. I called back and told the manager the noise level was unacceptable and asked to switch rooms since we had to get up at 6:30AM, he replied the hotel was booked but said he would ask the DJ to turn down the music. We did not notice any reduction in noise and could hear the music clearly through the HVAC ducts. Our room must have been directly above the party. At 2AM the party seemed to die down but then guests were yelling and pounding on doors in the hallway. I called the manager again to let him know but nothing was done to shut down the after parties, door pounding and yelling which went on until 3:30 AM. We slept about 3hrs and were exhausted when it was time to get ready for our daughter's soccer tournament.
Is the Hilton Scranton a family friendly hotel?
Why would the Hilton allow a private party with a DJ to play loud music until 2AM?
Why would you put a family in a room directly above the party (especially when you knew we had to wake up early)?
I regret staying at your hotel and Hilton should be embarrassed with trying to justify it is OK for guests to book loud parties with a DJ to run until 2AM and naive to think guests would not have after parties late into the morning.
Warm welcome, great suite and bath to accommodate our special needs parent. Great meal served in our room. Wonderful breakfast with an entertaining chef and very attentive server. Great location with easy access to I-81 and I-84
