How to Get There
Westin is great with its Green Policy, $5 a day off room rate if you don't get your room cleaned. We made our own beds, just asked the cleaning woman in the hall for fresh towels and more coffee and cups. She even took out dirty towels and gave us everything we needed without coming in our room! The room and bath were both quite roomy and beds were great for sleeping or sitting up and watching TV. We were on the 17th floor, which was pretty quiet at night, and the elevators were extremely efficient getting us down to the 2nd floor where receptions were held or we could take the overpass directly into the convention center. Bill's Burgers functioned well for afternoon or early/late evening gatherings or work meetings, and the Grille on the 2nd floor had an optional breakfast buffet or you could order off the menu. The staff was always helpful, and we could even get Charles, the van driver, to take us to receptions at restaurants and call to pick us up. What more could we want???
I have stayed at several Westins. This one was my least favorite. The in-room wifi boots you off every two minutes or less. If you are staying here and need wifi, I would reconsider. The hotel is in a nice location. Rooms were not as nice as other Westins. I agree with another review that the rooms are outdated- at least the one we were put in was. The entrance is a revolving door, which was interesting but may not be as accommodating for all needs.
My daughter and I stayed here for one night as we were passing thru town. I'll confess, I didn't specifically choose the hotel, but we truly enjoyed our stay. Here's are some helpful things to know.
Generally speaking, the rooms are nice, simply decorated, like a typical hotel room. I appreciated the space in the room, especially a very large long desk. It had a fridge and in-room coffee. Bathroom was exactly as you'd expect. I would guess that the "dated" comments come from the fact that the counters and toilet are still the lower height, but they were well cared for and nice. Hardware was clean, etc. Nice amenities - especially the lavendar by the bed! Great water pressure, quiet spot.
The only negative was the mattress. It was a bit firm, likely new. It was nothing like the heavenly bed I remembered at Westin's. The service and staff more than made up for it. Oh, the valet parking was a bit slow but many arrived at once so I can't really judge.
We also enjoyed the restaurant on floor 2 for breakfast. Mediocre coffee but excellent food and nice, healthy, vegetarian and non-dairy options! p.s. my daughter loved the elevators!
The area is perfect. Easy and quick access to much of downtown. We walked around until 11pm and felt safe. Great restuarant choices nearby. All in all, it was a good spot.
I stayed here for a conference. It is a sizable installation, with hotel, conference center, underground parking, etc. I’m sure this was another hotel at some point in it’s history, that Westin had appropriated. The room is nice enough (Room 814) with a lovely view of all the construction going on below me. Big King bed, but the mattress is sagging from all the sleep use (and whatever else might be going on). Plenty of pillows. HVAC/TV work as they should. In-room coffee and free (if not slow) wi-fi. The bathroom is big but counter space is limited. There is a room safe as well. There is a good bar across the street (TenPenny) and plenty of dining options within a few blocks. There is a burger bar in the hotel, as well as a Starbucks in an attached strip hallway. If it were my dollar I’d look someplace else but, for a sponsored conference, it was fine. Not Recommended.
The Westin in Pittsburgh was a standard Westin.
The Westin is a nice spacious property close to many sites such as the Andy Warhol Museum, the Strip, downtown and PPG Paints Arena. Tyler (think that was his name) at check in was super friendly. They have a Bill's Burger on site (we didn't go but I've been to the one at Rockefeller Center in NY many times and it's good). The room was spacious and we had a east view facing the Strip. Cable TV had many channels. Bathroom was spacious.
The safe in our room was out of batteries. We could tell the floors weren't vacuumed recently as there was glittery trim all over....like it fell off from a girl's sweater or something like that.
