How to Get There
I initially got a King bedroom, which was spacious enough, but my gold status helped me later to upgrade the room to a corner suite for the last two nights. The corner suite was a bedroom identical with the King Bedroom plus a living room.
A set of six elevators are coordinated to serve customers efficiently. You press the floor you want to go on a touch panel and it shows which car to take. There is no floor buttons nor a close button inside the car. I see this type of elevators increasing recently, but I still have not gotten used to it.
I was frankly expecting a lot more. The hotel is very much a convention hotel with lots of people. Despite this, the service is very good. I'd also like to mention the service for breakfast was truly exceptional.
The hotel is very well located downtown - near the cultural center of the city.
The gym is really great with lots of machines, weights and a pilates/stretching room.
The room was comfortable - but very much like the kind of room you would find in any motel you would find anywhere in the U.S. with some of the finishings a bit more upmarket (nice rain type shower head and more upmarket sink) but basically the average mid-range hotel. Not at all what I would have expected from a Westin.
The Westin Pittsburgh was a solid choice for our weekend visit. It has all the features, quality and service you expect from a Westin. It's in a good location and quick walk to the nearby bars and restaurants, and leisurely walk across the bridge to the stadiums. Bills Bar and Burgers right in the hotel was solid, but breakfast in the 2nd floor restaurant on Saturday morning was slow so leave more time. Overall thumbs up...just note it's an indoor pool only (our friend was hoping for some outdoor pool chilling time).
