How to Get There
We just celebrated our son’s wedding in Playa Bonita and are very satisfied with the outcome. The attention and service was over the top. Great big rooms and pool area. Friendly staff and management. Will definitely recommend it
From the time we first entered the hotel to the time we were leaving, Raul Rowley was friendly, attentive, and personable. Raul always had a smile on his face and was more than willing to help with anything we needed. The majority of the staff at the resort were good, but Raul stood out above all the rest and made for a very memorable stay at Playa Bonita Westin.
We stayed at this property for a few days during a recent trip to Panama.
From the minute we walked in, we experienced some of the best service and the staff were among the friendliest.
This is a very large property and has large convention/banquet areas. On our first day or two there was a large meeting/convention, however, it did not interfere with our vacation due to the two convention areas being on the “wings” of the hotel.
The grounds of the hotel were well maintained. The hotel seemed to be in good shape, although some exteriors needed some freshening, most likely due to the environment. Crews were regularly tending to the property so it’s likely these areas will be addressed. For example, one day we observed work being done on the pool.
The pool is very large and has a swim up bar, however, it was closed during our stay. The pool overlooks the beach, and while the ocean offers a great view, it is not as amazing as the beaches on the Caribbean side, but it isn’t a terrible beach. As other reviews mention, the size of the beach and water available for swimming fluctuates due to the tide.
The rooms were nicely appointed and on par with similar hotel types. I.E. The feel is more of a beach resort as opposed to a luxury resort. The bedding and towels were excellent and consistent with the Westin standard. A small critique is that the often over looked areas (corners of room/under cabinet/sinks) could use more cleaning. However, the room did feel clean, this is just a small observation we tend to notice since we regularly travel.
We visited during off peak times and the dinner restaurants had modified schedules, which is common in big hotels. We were told that during peak season all of the restaurants are open every day. Dinner reservations are required and can be made through the excellent concierge desk. We enjoyed the food at each of the restaurants. The prices are more than in town but less than a US resort.
The lounge is very spacious and offers an outdoor area. The view is fantastic. There are drinks and small bites each evening.
The hotel is not too far from the old town so you can easily take an Uber and experience some of the excellent restaurants. See Armando in concierge for excellent dinner recommendations.
A special note- we noted complimentary bug repellent wipes in every bathroom. We did not have issues with mosquitos or other bugs prior to arriving, so we dismissed the wipes. However, after sitting near the ocean and pool I was bitten by numerous small little bugs, commonly called “no-see-ums” or sand flies. They are small little bugs that are rather unassuming, but after 12 hours you really start to itch. My wife was barely bitten, go figure! The repellent seemed to prevent further bites.
The Westin is located outside of Panama City itself on a nice strip of beach. Depending on the tide levels the beach may be largely covered with water but the pool area abuts the beach. The pools are excellent with an ample number of loungers and both swim-up and walk-up bars. The rooms are well-appointed, and the common areas of the hotel are nice. It's a reasonable choice of hotels in Panama City although your exact plans might dictate a different choice. If your going to lounge poolside this is a great option. If you want to do a lot in the city you'll want to think about it.
Very nice hotel-somewhat isolated. Breakfast buffet was good. Other buffets were average. Service was excellent. Many kids activities available. Several resturants available in the Hotel. Free Ice cream-one dip at a time
