Lovely Modern Hotel in Downtown Panama
Reviewed 4 days ago

This hotel was exquisite overall, the staff very friendly and have good immunities. Very convenient location if looking to stay in the heart of the city. The morning breakfast was an amazing buffet-style feast with anything you could imagine. My only complaint is that the maid service was lacking a few of the days we were there. Over all a lovely hotel and at reasonable price.

Very average

My husband and I had an unpleasant visit here. We stayed 6 nights, the price is right (one of the cheapest in the city). The rooms are clean but the atmosphere is irritating. On weekends they have a loud DJ in the pool area playing a mix of trance, dance hits and heavy metal. This goes on for 5-6 hours. During the week they blast similar music over speakers. I'm not sure what they're going for... a tacky all inclusive Cancun Spring Break experience? This is often accompanied by ongoing drilling and construction. I stayed here 4 years ago, and had a very nice experience. The hotel has gone downhill, and is showing its age. Another unfortunate experience was that our "do not disturb" sign was ignored. We went on a day trip, and our room had been entered. It was a violation of our privacy and wishes. We had documents, visas, money, passports and laundry out in the open and it was worrying and embarrassing. The unfortunate thing about all this is that we barely got an apology. I have been to Panama regularly since 2007, and this was my first unpleasant hotel experience. The positives are the cheap rates, large breakfast, gym and cleanliness. I wouldn't recommend this hotel if you are coming to relax by the pool with a book.

Great 5 star Hotel

One of the best 5 star hotels I have ever stayed in. Excellent service and amenities. I was given a free late check out. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Close to restaurants and Multi Plaza Mall.

Great location, Huge breakfast selection

The Riu is a very nice hotel. The room was nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable. The shower had both a rain shower from above, and a shower handle from the side. There are double sinks including a mounted make-up mirror. There are lots of outlets including next to each side of the bed. There are also personal lights on each side of the bed. The breakfast has an amazing selection with multiple freshly made fruit juices, eggs cooked a variety of ways, cold cuts, cheeses, psalteries, hot foods, etc. The pool is on the ground floor which means not much sun gets to the area due to all of the other high rise buildings next to the hotel.

Unimpressed with Staff & Food
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The building, its facilities, rooms, bedding, included amenities , ect are top drawer or at least close to it for this area. Except that the air did not respond to the thermostat and we were a bit warm.
However, the quality of staff has quite a range, from obtuse indifference to energetically helpful, desk staff would benefit from some changes. We arrived late for the dinner buffet and what was available was well past it's prime, we did not like it at all. Very much reminds one of those huge inexpensive dinner buffets in Las Vegas. If you choose to go make it early. Breakfast Buffet very extensive, huge selection, quite edible but still very much like the big Las Vegas buffets a lot of variety @ lower quality.
