Historic Henry Flagler-built compound with a half-mile of private beach, four pools, two golf courses and a spa
The Breakers is the real deal—a stunning example of grand Floridian architecture built by Henry Flagler in 1896. And while the hotel still has the miles of stately gardens and gorgeous sea view it did over a century ago, there have been some welcome additions—four oceanfront pools, five whirlpools, and nine restaurants, from the Flagler Steakhouse to the seafood-centric Ocean Grill. Then there are two 18-hole golf courses, ten tennis courts, a spa (offering treatments for kids as well as adults), scuba diving and certification, and 11 designer shops on-site.
In the Area
The Palm Beach area is full of choices: shoppers and strollers have their pick between Clematis Street, the center of West Palm Beach which is full of boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries; or Worth Avenue, the heart of Palm Beach, with every designer store from Alex and Ani to Vilebrequin. Art lovers argue over whether to hit the Norton Museum, with its collection of contemporary and photography, or the Society of the Four Arts, which includes a botanical and sculpture garden, library, gallery, and an auditorium for concerts, lectures, and opera.
