Boutique European-style beauty in Palm Beach with a pool and a restaurant three blocks from the ocean
Just a few blocks from the Atlantic Ocean and Worth Avenue in one of Florida’s most exclusive towns stands the Chesterfield. The European-style hotel has 53 guestrooms, each designed with sumptuous fabrics and modern decor. Overall, the effect feels fresh and what one would expect in Palm Beach luxury, and what some of the rooms lack in size they make up for in comfortable details, like good-size marble bathrooms, plush bathrobes and soft bedding. The hotel offers fresh-baked cookies in the lobby, as well as lemonade and fresh fruit by the pool. The Leopard Lounge, a Palm Beach staple, serves internationally-inspired dishes like Chicken Curry and Josper Grilled Veal Chop in the dining room (and courtyard, weather permitting), as well as a traditional English afternoon tea, featuring dainty tea sandwiches and warm baked scones. Surrounded by tropical plants and tall ficus bushes, the scene at the pool is quiet, and there’s a beautiful stretch of coral-flecked sand lapped by deep blue water only three blocks away. (There’s no private area for guests, but the valet can provide chairs and umbrellas.)
In the Area
In Palm Beach there’s plenty to do besides sunning yourself on the beach. Most notably, the Chesterfield is two blocks south of Worth Avenue, which is lined with such boutiques as Cartier, Tiffany’s, Chanel and Valentino, among others. And just across the bridge, along the Intracoastal Waterway in the town of West Palm Beach, there are hundreds more restaurants and shops. For excellent Italian fare, book a table under the palms at the lively Cucina dell’Arte. For brunch visit the landmark Taboo restaurant, which resembles a British colonial club and claims to have originated the Bloody Mary (for Barbara Hutton); theirs has now been imbibed by such diverse celebs as Woody Allen, Deepak Chopra, Jeff Gordon and Ozzy Osbourne.
