Luxurious—and luxuriously isolated—11-villa resort on an enormous white sand beach, with its own kite-surfing school and rooftop champagne bar
Luxury meets sustainability at the Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa in Paje, on the archipelago's eastern coast, which is powered by wind and solar energy. Architect Neil Rocher took an innovative approach to the design, creating a contemporary look that incorporates rustic elements and sustainable materials. Villas feature various room configurations, some of which are cheaper than others, but each has butler service, a personal swimming pool, and 300 square meters of space that include gardens and private wooden-floored terraces, as well as an outdoor bathtub. The landscape of bright white sand and baobab trees invites all-day lounging, with occasional trips to the spa, which has a steam room, sauna, and its very own waterfall. The restaurant serves freshly caught fish and locally inspired dishes within view of the hotel’s main pool, and there’s a beach bar for mid-day snacking and cold drinks.
In the Area
The resort is fairly isolated on its own stretch of beautiful beach, so there’s not much to do within walking distance. Many guests who want to explore rent a car and drive to the opposite side of the island to Stone Town, the island’s magical historic trading post, which is lined with cobblestone streets, colorful picturesque houses, and boutique shops and cafés. From the resort, snorkeling trips can be arranged to the nearby coral reef, as well as fishing and swimming with dolphins.
