How to Get There
This place is in the PERFECT location for walking around Portland...rooms nice, clean and fairly spacious. Wine tasting hour in lobby could be fun IF you like the particular wines they are "tasting" (I didn't)...happy hour in the bar is good and reasonable.
We chose NOT to having housekeeping during our visit, so got a coupon (worth $10 each, I believe) for each night which could be used in the restaurant or bar (we used in bar). Using this option not only gave us some "cash", but it is good for the enviroment due to less use of cleaning chemicals and towels.
Hotel is ideally situated from many perspectives including parking, exploring the city on foot & exiting the city on the Freeway.
The hotel itself is a bit quirky but for all the good reasons (e.g. Happy Hour was free wine with a massage service!) . Our room was large and facilities within to a surprisingly high standard. Staff were friendly and courteous.
I don't often give a hotel 5*, but for the price this was great value & deserves it!
A bit of a splurge, but the room was huge, the bed super comfy, the style was fun and unusual in a great location. Cool bathrobes! Oh, and a nightcap! So swanky. Front desk service was impeccable. The attached restaurant had really good food - had breakfast on our last morning.
Nice hotel, but it felt like a semi-renovated Best Western. The bathrooms...ish. We usually love the Kimpton hotels, but this one left us with a bitter sweet feeling. It was very expensive for what you get. However, the service of the reservation department was great. Location is awesome. Note that if you arrive by car, you have no choice but to take the 43$ valet because « there are lot of homeless people » according to the valet...
This hotel is pretty awesome. We stayed here for an entire week for business and while looking for housing for our move up to Portland. We saw many pets while we were there, we didn't travel with our pooch, but it was great to see furry friends welcome here!
The bed - This is always the most important part of a hotel stay, and the beds at Kimpton hotels are amazing. No joke, the first time we stayed at a Kimpton the bed was SO COMFORTABLE, I started looking into how to buy one. Turns out we're not the first people to have this thought, and they actually do sell Kimpton bedding, we bought Kimpton pillows for our home and absolutely love them. This is some of the most comfortable hotel bedding you will ever experience, so if you're a light sleeper and comfort is important the beds here do not disappoint.
The room - We had a spacious room that also had a couch and a great little mini bar with local wines, which we enjoyed. The hotel is wine themed and you'll see cute touches throughout the rooms that are very subtle (our room had a wall covered in cork, which we didn't even notice for a few days). But the wine theme isn't tacky it's super understated and sophisticated. The whole hotel is very well decorated.
The location - This is right in downtown on the edge of the Pearl District, very close to the MAX line, so you can easily take the red line straight from the airport and it will drop you off about 3 blocks from the hotel. No need for a cab to get to the hotel, the MAX is convenient and cheap. This is also very close to lots of great restaurants, if you walk east you'll find famous Portland eateries and Powell's is just a few blocks away. At night steer clear of walking the other side of Burnside that's where there seems to be a large amount of people who seem to be on drugs, stick to south of Burnside and the area is really posh.
The happy hour - There is a nightly wine hour that is complementary. We only made it a few nights, but it was really fun! The downstairs bar is also great, really cute and a good place to have a glass of wine.
The staff - Didn't have too much interaction with the staff but everyone we did interact with was very friendly.
The gym - This is a must for a lot of people on the road for work often, and this gym is well appointed. Small but lots of good equipment including pulley machines and dumbells. There was also water, towels and snacks in the gym which were very helpful.
