Lovely Grand Hotel
Reviewed 3 days ago

My husband and I stay at this hotel any time we are able to visit Portland. It is such a lovely older hotel that is beautifully updated to be an Embassy Suites. Each time we feel like our suite is a small apartment. Everything is nicely appointed, very clean and feels spacious. The beds are comfortable, housekeeping is really good, and the breakfast and afternoon happy hour is reliably good. I have some dietary issues and they are always able to accommodate me.

The property has a gym and a pool. The pool is indoor and of a good size. Because it's indoors the smell of chlorine hits me right away, but it passes. The pool always appears clean given its popularity with families. The gym was also good with many Precor ellipticals, treadmills and bikes. The pool was busy most days but the gym was never crowded when I needed to use it. I would say the property is family friendly.

This trip we had a rental car and the bell desk was great about providing tips on the best parking. (The facility used by the property is on the expensive side.) They have also been really good at helping us connect with the light rail and providing suggestions for things to do locally. If you are a doughnut fan, Voodoo doughnuts is nearby. The only word of caution is the neighborhood is not ideal, especially if you like to get out and walk. I've wandered the neighborhood on my own without any problem but it might give some people pause. There is some dining nearby and there are many food trucks parked in the area.

We look forward to our next opportunity to visit Portland and this Embassy Suites. Give them a try!

The Room was Terrific!

We stayed 2 nights in a king suite. We loved the extra room and the bed was very comfortable. The free breakfast was very good as always at an Embassy suite and the cocktail hour was very good also although a little light on the snacks.
The entire staff was very accommodating and super helpful. If you are staying in the downtown area, you will be pleased.
Also the hotel actually has much history to it. It is the second oldest hotel in Portland which gives it a fun appeal.

Nice place to stay

Loved that the bedroom was closed off from the sitting/dining area of the room. Worked out perfectly for toddler naps. The place was clean and staff were friendly. Parking was across the street for additional fee.

Very Relaxing Visit

The front desk staff made this stay very pleasant. They redefined what it means "going the extra mile".
The room was actually a one bedroom suite, with large flat screen T.V.s in both the bed room and the living room.
With a microwave and a refrigerator, it was almost like being at home.
The complimentary breakfast in the restaurant had a wide variety to choose from including made to order omelette.

Street parking was free after 7 pm, until 8 am the next morning.
The location is good with easy access to the bridge and freeways in any direction.
I would stay here again.

nice hotel with good ammenities!

My husband and I enjoyed stayed at Embassy Suites for a night in May. We enjoyed the free drinks in the evening and the breakfast was great. The hotel was beautiful, and the room had plenty of space and was clean. The staff was friendly.

One elevator was down which made for long wait times but I understand this happens from time to time.

We had one complaint that knocks my review down to 4 stars. We only stayed one night and planned to use the room as "home base" until the noon checkout time. I've always thought "do not disturb signs" were for people staying more than one night. Every hotel I've ever stayed at has just waited until someone checks out to the clean the room.

However, as I got ready around 9 or 9:30 ,there was a knock. It was housekeeping checking to see if they could clean the room. They said they would come back. When we left the room, we went ahead and put the "do not disturb" sign out, as we weren't checking out, just going to explore a little.

As we were getting ready to leave, just a few minutes before noon, there was another knock at the door, checking to see if they could clean.

This was just very off-putting to us, and there must be a better way.
