Escape from home for a night
Reviewed 22 hours ago

We ran away from home for the night for dinner, attend a show, and do a little Christmas shopping. The hotel is perfectly located downtown Portland. Being a historic building the rooms were larger than your typical hotel, yet nicely appointed and extremely clean and comfortable. The grandeur of the lobby with the large Christmas trees was a wonderful way to start the night away. I travel a lot and I have to say the bed was one of the most comfortable I've slept in. We hope to come back next time we need another escape!

Can’t Imagine Staying Anywhere Else in Portland

Although the name “Embassy Suites” suggests a modern urban chain, this is in an elegant, lovely, historic building. We’re sitting by the fireplace in the lobby enjoying a happy hour free IPA (beer) looking at decked holiday tree and garlands. Our room is spacious with a separate living area and bedroom. It’s less expensive than other hotels offering much smaller rooms. I will say, there is no on-site restaurant to speak of, but the free breakfast and happy hour wine/beer/drinks and snacks is fantastic. The omelette are made to order. Quite close to the MAX Metro (exit SW 1st/Oak) from the airport. They have a quirk of texting you the wi-if password, which has never worked for us but that’s easily solved by asking for it again at the front desk. Convenient to the Hertz rental car facility across the street if you want to explore Oregon wine country in your free time. Easy walking distance to the attractions on both sides of the river. Enjoy!

Average accommodations, several problems

We chose this hotel because we like the spaciousness of the chain's suites. Ours was oddly laid out, with bathroom off the living room instead of the bedroom, but it was still roomy and comfortable. The trouble was being there during family vacation time and the large size of the hotel.. The breakfast service was virtually impossible to use because of the huge crowds; the first morning I had to wait about 10 minutes for utensils to be replenished; and most food items were in short supply or had run out. The indoor pool was jammed but that was to be expected with so many families. This particular area of downtown is also less attractive than much of downtown.

Worth everything!

If you have to visit downtown Portland, this is, no doubt, the place to stay. The attention is fantastic, and the services up-to-par. If your business is there, you can walk with no qualms. Their breakfast service is very good, and the afternoon courtesy cocktail is very enjoyable. Worth the price!

Love the Embassy Suites Portland Downtown.

The location is ideal and the staff is very helpful. The building has historic charm with modern amenities. The breakfast is great with made to order omelettes. I stay here often and plan to stay again while in Portland.
