How to Get There
A quick overnight getaway at this coastal resort was pretty great. Marriot staff is attentive and courteous. Our room overlooking the main pool was sufficient but noisy during the day. Lots of families. There are other pools. We did a nice hike along eco reserve near hotel and then chilled at one of the quieter pools. They have bikes available, included in resort fee. Breakfast was pricey, but really delicious. For shopaholics, Fashion Island mall is across street. Overnight parking is $33 for self park and $38 for valet. Enjoy.
I've stayed at a lot of hotels (budget, mid-scale, and luxury), and I've never seen a nicer staff than this. EVERYONE went out of their way to acknowledge me when I passed by a staff member. Every single staff member was hospitable, and if I needed any help or assistance with anything, they would go out of their way to assist. Absolutely incredible hospitality. And everyone at the conference was talking about how friendly they were so it wasn't just me.
As far as the hotel itself, it's a great stay! The pools are very nice and maintained. Pool towels are provided, and there's a variety of pool/lounge chairs around. And cabanas too! There is also an area called the "Rose Garden" that has turf grass and a really cool centerpiece that looks like it could be used for a wedding. The restaurant/bar area is very nice too. Probably the best-decorated/themed hotel bar I've ever seen. It was nice enough to where you thought you were in a stand-alone restaurant. The catering at this hotel was fantastic as well. It's right across from Fashion Island, which is very convenient. It's also in an area that is great for outdoor runs. Not too far from the beach, but not really walkable. I took a short Lyft ride there. Depending where your hotel room is located & facing, you could see the ocean alongside the nearby golf course. The hotel is also close to the John Wayne Airport.

May God Bless Your Travels!
Having stayed at this property for several stays in 2018, the consistency was definitely lacking at this property. Apparently, the property is frequented due to its proximity to a dining/shopping mall and several large organizations within walking distance - which may allow this property to keep the level of occupancy up without keeping up the quality for which Marriott is known. At best, our rooms were sometimes good, sometimes filled with AC, plumbing, bedding and cleanliness issues; frequently the stay was incorrect at check-in. The room AC in the old building several stays did not work and there are so many street noises in the old building that it makes sleeping in for a vacation virtually impossible: buses, garbage pick-up, etc. Switching to the back of the hotel was not an improvement: golf equipment and early activities by the pool begin very early. Also, it is definitely advantageous to have a car to get out and about, particularly for family gatherings where you need to come and go frequently - the valet staff is tremendous at this property but they cannot magically produce taxis unless they have them ordered literally hours in advance. The food is pub food unless you want to eat in the on-site restaurant, but you then face really loud noise and television sounds - not relaxing or restful. Even as premium customers, this property is one we've chosen to forgo when visiting in the area - too inconsistent and difficult to get anyone to attend to any issues you may have without a long wait or repeatedly requesting assistance. One great thing is the coffee shop on property though, warning: it can be quite a long line to access it given the hotel's large volume of business stay activities - fortunately, the coffee house team work really hard to move the lines along. Overall, if you are willing to forgo a typical higher quality stay you would expect at a Marriott, then convenience may be worth it.
