How to Get There
Rooms are good, though a bit small. Nice views, clean, efficient. Eating options are very limited though. OK for business, acceptable for families. Lounges for Marriot Elite customers are small and dated, and offering a bit poor. Honor bar requires signing off and paying drinks one by one.
What a great hotel and staff. The amenities were great. We were there for a wedding at another property, but thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back...
They have a shuttle to the beach, which is very convenient. Close to Laguna Beach, which is so quaint..be sure to go to Nicks for dinner.
I stayed at this hotel for a one-night business stay. I booked a "Direct Ocean View, Concierge lounge access, Guest room, 1 King" (Hotel's wording). The base room rate was $256. By the time fees and taxes on my bill were done it was $321.57, closer to what I would expect for Newport Beach.
It was a walk to get to my room from reception. No worries for me but if you have mobility issues plan and book ahead. The hotel was nice, well-finished and equipped as were the rooms. I would say my view was more of the golf course than the sea, but I could see Balboa Island and the ocean. The hotel is close to Fashion Island if you want a lot of shopping and eating items but for walking to the beach... not so much. As I was here on business, not a problem. I am not a golfer but the course looked good and well-tended.
However: I paid for Concierge Lounge access. I never got it. In the morning I complained to the front desk about lack of access and was given new keys. They didn't work either. So, I spent ~$35 on a buffet breakfast in the restaurant.
I was not asked how my stay went until after I had paid my bill, not before, so my conclusion is, the hotel really doesn't care.
This hotel's OK, but I was charged for something I never received (concierge lounge access). There is a word for that. Hence I will not be staying at this hotel again and cannot recommend it to you.
I was traveling with my family for my birthday, including my 16mo son. I booked a king size room online after searching specifically for hotels with bathtubs so that we could bathe the baby, since soapy squirmy toddlers and tiled showers do not mix well. When i arrived, initially they had NO rooms. I waited until they found one, and to my dismay there was only a tiled shower. I called the desk and the staff was quite rude, saying there were no other rooms and that we’d just have to deal with it for a night then lug all our stuff to another room on my birthday or downgrade to a room with two full beds. So we picked safety. They also apparently do not have enough housekeepers so they requested we forgo maid service to plant a tree north of yosemite. We were told we could call the front desk to ask for anything we needed but no one ever answered when we called to request washcloths or coffee pods. We could not even find a maid or a way to dispose of our trash (including diapers) so our room was awful by the end of three days. We also had to take the elevator up every time we needed to go down bc the down button did not work! The parking was overpriced. The valets stood there yapping and playing on their cellphones will we sat there unloading our stuff. I did have a very nice experience at the spa, but that was honestly the only positive experience. It was too cold to use the pool but it looked nice. There are many options in newport beach and i would not pick this one again. I was very disappointed with this stay, especially on my birthday.
Across the street from Fashion Island where there are great restaurants and high end shops. Wonderful pool area and on the backside of Newport Beach Country Club. Rooms are prices competitively and very nicely furnished. Fantastic bar downstairs. Will visit again.
