A centrally-located Newport hotel that makes it easy to shop, play, or indulge at its in-house spa

The Lowdown

Its name may conjure up images of a tropical escape, but the 295-room Island Hotel is actually located in Newport Center, a 600-acre development along the Pacific coast that is chock-full of Fortune 500 companies. So you’d expect the conference facilities, buzzing lounge where deals are made over the martini of the day, and the locally-sourced fare at the Oak Grill. What you might be surprised by are the off-duty pursuits, from the nine different types of massages on offer at the spa, the outdoor fireplace by the heated pool and the live DJ jams at the Aqua Lounge.

In the Area

Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm are nearby, but many hotel guests prefer to get a taste of adventure out on the water while fishing, whale watching, or catching rays aboard an impressive chartered yacht. Plus there’s horse racing at one of the five nearby tracks including Hollywood Park and Santa Anita. But the most popular competitive sport in Newport Beach just may be shopping, thanks to Fashion Island, an outdoor, oceanfront shopping and entertainment center steps from the hotel, where you can pick up everything from a scented candle to a Cadillac. It’s also home to restaurants including Rick Bayless’ Red O and Fig & Olive.

Hotel/Area Tour

The location is great---central to all of the shopping and dining options of Fashion Island, within walking distance! It's a shopper's mecca!
Great views of the island, especially from the higher floors.
The staff and management team were all so friendly and helpful.
The rooms are spacious with large balconies, large bathrooms, and very comfortable bedding.
We really enjoyed the relaxed dining atmosphere at the outdoor restaurant/pool bar area. The lighting and decor at dusk provides great ambiance, whether you're with a group or celebrating a romantic evening together.
The indoor restaurant and bar also had great service and style... a friendly pub feel to the bar ;)
The cocktails were well crafted and the bartenders were very knowledgeable and accommodating to any special request.
Very well equipped fitness center... one of the largest I've seen in a hotel in SoCal!
Be sure to arrange a Duffy Boat tour with the hotel. They do a wonderful job organizing that event---makes for a really fun day in Newport Beach as they pamper you with lunch and drinks aboard the boat too.
Will definitely choose this hotel for future stays within the Fashion Island district!

I Love Fashion Island Hotel as Much as I Like to Shop!

I'm a Luxury Travel Designer so I am constantly traveling to great hotels and resorts. Fashion Island is one of my all time favorites and a go to for a quick and fun So Cal get-a-way! It's location at the shopping mall is perfect for a girl's get-a-way and its' close proximity to Balboa Island makes it perfect for families too. The spa is outstanding and should not be missed. Fashion Island Hotel has also put themselves on the map with their ultra-cool Aqua Lounge, which is also frequented by locals in the community. And, we cannot forget their amazing restaurant, which deserves a special mention. Great service and a just a super overall wonderful experience! I can't wait to go back in a few weeks!

Classy hotel and grounds but beware taxes and fees

This is a great hotel with nicely appointed rooms, some with ocean views especially high up. It was formerly a Four Seasons property and still merits that category of class.
Staff is friendly and service minded.
They have a quality bar with indoor and outdoor seating that offers a good small plates menu plus a larger restaurant for meals throughout the day.
Valet parking is $35 per night.
Checkout revealed 10 extra charges for fees and taxes amounting to 1/5 of the total bill per night.

Simply wonderful

Large, well-appointed rooms. Great views. Beautiful grounds, especially pool, whirlpool, and outdoor bar area with fire pit. The telephone reservation agent was especially helpful and made making a last minute reservation super easy. Front desk staff were similarly helpful. The only drawback for me were the very high parking fee and resort fee. Wish they didn’t have that.

Amazing service

My colleagues and I were here for training and had the best experience. Shannon and John are awesome. We would spend our free time after class hanging out with Shannon at the pool bar who had great recommendations for whisky and scotch, along with cool spots to check out in the area. We got back late one night after the kitchen had closed and were feeling kinda snacky. John overheard us and asked if we were hungry moments later he brought out a box of fries. Ill definitely be staying here for my future visits.

Thanks guys.
