The Review

Live like a star at this two-bedroom villa that opens up to the sand and the Pacific. The place feels like a small beachside mansion, and while you’ll have it all to yourself, the neighborhood offers plenty of plenty of other perks.

Bordered by the Pacific Coast Highway and the coast itself, the villa sits between the aptly named Pacific Edge Hotel and Beach House restaurant, a local landmark that was once the home to Hollywood character actor Slim Summerville. The hotel — formerly a dilapidated ’60s motel — has been given a much-needed makeover by the hip California-based Joie de Vivre hospitality chain. And whereas many of the hotel’s ocean-facing rooms are brightly painted studios with balconies, the property’s pièce de résistance is somewhat hidden.

{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/755/prop-33440-1315859591-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The master bedroom opens to a private balcony and is filled with natural light.”}The villa is a 2,500-square-foot masterpiece of sunny California architecture. The decades-old edifice was recently gutted and rebuilt from the inside out, while the wooden Craftsman-style exterior was smartly preserved. I thought I was merely staying in one of the hotel’s larger suites, so when I walked through a white gate and was greeted by a huge green house I had to catch my breath. Upon entering, I walked down a long hallway to a sunken living room with French doors that open to a sprawling deck overlooking the ocean.

The furniture is elegant casual, bathed in baby blues and sea greens with understated seashell motifs. A formal dining room and a fairly simple kitchen (no real cooking facilities here) round out the downstairs. Upstairs, two bedrooms carry on the nautical theme, with old oars set above one of the beds and shells in large jars on one mantel. The master bedroom is enormous, with a field of soft carpeting, a huge, roaring fireplace and a walk-in closet big enough to live in. There’s also a fireplace in the master bathroom, which enjoys skylights and large glass doorless shower. Wooden ceilings arch overhead.

In summer, beach butlers rake the sand outside, set up chaise longues and tend to guests’ every need. The hotel’s shared pool and hot tub is just to the south of the villa, and the Beach House restaurant to the north offers a room service menu for villa guests. Perhaps you can’t afford to truly live like a movie star, but this unique beachfront home makes you feel as if you’re almost there.

Karen is the best!!

My family and I stay here every year in May and the facilities are wonderful. From the beautiful views to the cleanliness of the rooms. Everything about this place is amazing, but the real star is Karen. She makes sure your stay is just what you thought it would be. She is kind and seeks to understand, thank you Karen!!

Amazing trip

This condo was so nice. It was very spacious with a great kitchen. It also had a great big deck. We loved staying here and definitely will visit again. The deck view was so nice and overlooked the pool and beach. The pool and beach are also very close to the condo.

Superb accommodations

Sunset Coast is the best!! We used to live in Laguna Beach, now we live in San Miguel de Allende. So we know what to expect in this town, and can compare it to one of the world’s best small cities. This is an excellent complex, great staff and top-notch location - a few steps from the beach and a few blocks from downtown. We will always stay here during our frequent returns to LB.

Amazing stay with a jaw dropping view

My girlfriend and I originally planned on staying across the street at the “14 west”. Upon my arrival, I received a call from Karen and asked if I would like to upgrade to the Calypso suit in the Sunset Cove complex. We arrived to the 14 west and we were immediately welcomed by Emily. Emily was so sweet and really took her time with us, showed us both options - the one at the 14 west and at the Sunset Cove and made sure we knew both our options before deciding! The extra mile went a long
way and we really noticed and appreciated it, thank you again Emily for being patient and making sure we were happy with our choice! Of course, we fell in love with the Calypso suit. It was very clean and well kept when we arrived. It has everything anyone could ever wish for. It has a fully equipped kitchen, dinning table, Apple TV, HBO channels, coffee maker, and much more. We will definitely be back. I think we found our new vacation home. Thank you again to Karen and Emily who’ve made our trip so amazing!

Not to mention a great view!

Most Beautiful View and Sunset Ever!
Reviewed 5 months ago

I came for the view and was not disappointed. I needed a place to work for a few days and sat in front on the sliding door while I worked and never felt like I was even at work! The view is like a cruise ship because the water comes right up to the building and at high tide all you see is water. Amazing. I don't know how the zoning laws work here, but we were charmed. We also had the wonderful help of Karen Palacios who arranged for a grocery delivery as we arrived after 10pm. When one of the guests left behind some clothing items, she had them sent. I hope to go back again.
