Overview

A gorgeous, art-inspired hotel on the bluffs of Laguna Beach overlooking the Pacific Ocean

The Lowdown

Situated on a dramatic 50-foot bluff, the 248-room Montage Laguna Beach embodies the era when the California Arts and Crafts movement began. The sprawling rooms, suites and beach bungalows display local artwork in a minimum of 500 square feet, along with private balconies, marble baths and luxurious feathertop beds. The 20,000-square-foot spa is a jewel, with eucalyptus steam rooms, dry redwood saunas and fireplace lounges. Guests can explore 30 beautiful acres with white sand beaches, or lounge by the pool, which features private cabanas, a whirlpool and a kids play area. The Mosaic pool bar serves California-inspired dishes such as local halibut with sweet corn sauce and blackened half chicken with corn tortillas. Two additional dining venues grant panoramic views: Studio, an elegant space that serves modern French cuisine, and the Loft, which offers creative American fare prepared on a six-foot wood-burning rotisserie.

In the Area

Laguna Beach has an abundance of art and culture, and during July and August the Festival of Fine Arts produces the Pageant of the Masters, a theatrical extravaganza in which art comes to life onstage. Visitors can also catch an evening performance at the Laguna Playhouse, a historic theater that was founded in 1920 and continues to showcase outstanding talent. One unique attraction is the tide pools at Glenn E. Vedder Ecological Reserve. Pack a picnic lunch and look closely: The pools are full of colorful marine life. There is no shortage of shops and art galleries to peruse, and the Laguna Art Museum has several impressive collections. For casual dining in town, Nick’s Laguna Beach serves everything from deviled eggs and burgers to perfectly prepared seafood and steaks.

Birthday Joy!

From start to finish our family stay for my daughter’s birthday was exquisite. With our initial greeting in the driveway from the valets and the bellmen along with the welcoming and attentive front desk staff and our chat with Tim we felt immediately at ease. During our entire stay the staff from housekeeping to servers to all the various attendants were unfailingly polite and helpful. We had a delicious lunch at Mosaic and enjoyed the exceptional view and beautifully prepared food. Then it was on to the oversized pool and hot tub for a relaxing soak. We spent some time on our balcony overlooking the tranquil Pacific and had an aperitif with friends who joined us for the birthday dinner at the Loft. Incredible is the only word to describe the ambiance and of course the master prepared dishes. My filet mignon was truly “melt in your mouth” and a seemingly ordinary named rigatoni soared to impressive heights of flavor. All of our table’s dishes were outstanding and it was topped off with an array of creative desserts that we somehow found room for. We finished our special night with live music in the lounge with perfect after dinner drinks. As we snuggled into our heavenly bed we drifted off with the sounds of the sea. The only regret is that we would have to leave, but I’m not going to think about that... Thank you for a weekend to cherish all who make the Montage experience so memorable. We will of course be back. Jim Paso Robles

The Royal Treatment

Montage Laguna Beach is by far the most incredible hotel in Southern California! Absolutely breath taking views & flawless exterior & interior design. Montage LB hires the nicest, most genuine & happy employees who are extremely well trained to assist you during your stay. From the valet & concierge, to the pool & spa attendants. As local residents, we occasionally visit Montage LB for lunch or to visit the beach below, in front of the hotel, but this was our first time staying overnight. Our Ocean Horizon suite was so immaculate & a dream come true, we didn't leave the room! We ordered room service about 5 times & each time our order was perfectly made, set up & presented! They even bring you up pitchers of water if you're like me & need to stay hydrated at all times. This stay was for my birthday & a staycation so we were celebrating with rosé & Champagne & the hotel was beyond generous to custom design a cake just for me. Some friends called in special orders to be sent to the suite of macaroons, chocolate covered strawberries, more wine & champagne! You could say we woke up eyes & face swollen, lol, but so worth it! A Montage experience is truly like the royal treatment! Their bathrooms are heavenly, spacious, full of great amenities & the best robes ever! The beds are the best you'll ever sleep in. They recommend sleeping with the doors open to hear the waves at night & I'd highly agree. Another exceptional service was when I wanted to screen share a sports game from my computer to the tv (since the game wasn't on regular tv), but I couldn't figure it out, so we called the concierge who then sent up an on site engineer who then helped us out & solved our dilemma. We ordered room service, hot tea, ate more cake & food & had such a nice & relaxing night in our fabulous suite. The next day we ordered an early lunch & ate it on one of our balconies, where they had set it up for us, & the very nice gentleman even was kind enough to take many photos to capture the golden moment in our robes. The only bad part about staying at Montage LB is leaving. Enjoy!

Best R&R on the planet!!

I've been visiting this slice of heaven since 2012 and each time it gets that much better. I'm not a stickler for detail but I am when it comes to warmth, authenticity and style. From the second you arrive the valet staff greets you as if you live there. Reception, concierge, spa staff and everyone else is over the top warm, hospitable and accommodating. As great as it was it is now even better with the addition of new general manager. If there were 10 stars it wouldn't be enough!
