Situated on a dramatic 50-foot bluff, the 248-room Montage Laguna Beach embodies the era when the California Arts and Crafts movement began. The sprawling rooms, suites and beach bungalows display local artwork in a minimum of 500 square feet, along with private balconies, marble baths and luxurious feathertop beds. The 20,000-square-foot spa is a jewel, with eucalyptus steam rooms, dry redwood saunas and fireplace lounges. Guests can explore 30 beautiful acres with white sand beaches, or lounge by the pool, which features private cabanas, a whirlpool and a kids play area. The Mosaic pool bar serves California-inspired dishes such as local halibut with sweet corn sauce and blackened half chicken with corn tortillas. Two additional dining venues grant panoramic views: Studio, an elegant space that serves modern French cuisine, and the Loft, which offers creative American fare prepared on a six-foot wood-burning rotisserie.
In the Area
Laguna Beach has an abundance of art and culture, and during July and August the Festival of Fine Arts produces the Pageant of the Masters, a theatrical extravaganza in which art comes to life onstage. Visitors can also catch an evening performance at the Laguna Playhouse, a historic theater that was founded in 1920 and continues to showcase outstanding talent. One unique attraction is the tide pools at Glenn E. Vedder Ecological Reserve. Pack a picnic lunch and look closely: The pools are full of colorful marine life. There is no shortage of shops and art galleries to peruse, and the Laguna Art Museum has several impressive collections. For casual dining in town, Nick’s Laguna Beach serves everything from deviled eggs and burgers to perfectly prepared seafood and steaks.
How to Get There
My friend and I went to the Montage for breakfast it was excellent. The french toast is to die for.
Then took a walk around the grounds it is just beautiful. We decided we are going to stay there in the summer time.
The Montage is one of the five best hotels we have stayed with in the world. That includes 10 countries in Europe and another six countries in Asia Pacific. All facilities, location, restaurants and room service are impeccable. Just park the car and enter a new world of a beautiful pool, lovely secluded beaches and very well trained staff.
We are in a bungalow and totally enjoying the proximity to the water and the glorious views. Palm trees swaying, the soothing sound of waves crashing below ..... what more could one ask for!
Amazing service to top it all off.
Visited The Montage for 5 days to attend a convention. Absolutely fantastic experience. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout our stay. Had the opportunity to dine at The Loft on a few occasions. Great selection of meals to choose from. The service was prompt, polite, and courteous. If the opportunity presents itself, do yourself some justice and dine in the area serviced by Thomas. He was exceptionable.
And don't be afraid to strike up casual conversation with Valet Attendant Dan. He was a helpful source when dining in downtown Laguna Beach.
Could not have been more pleased with our stay.
Just spent 4 days at this incredible resort. We came with three kids in tow, ages 3, 5 and 7 and they loved it as much as we did. The service is top notch - everyone took such great care of us. From Alma in housekeeping, to Kenny and Joe at the pool, to Stephen and the rest of the Loft restaurant staff - this hotel has hired some exceptional employees. We also found that our children were extremely welcome and we never felt that this was an "adults only" hotel. Our waiter at the Loft for dinner (I forget his name now!), took our three kids back into the kitchen to make their own sundaes. They are still talking about how cool it was to put their own whipped cream on the sundae with a piping bag!
This hotel has one of the most spectacular views I have seen in all my travels. The coastline is stunning and the setting rivals the south of France and Amalfi coasts. The fact that you can walk out of the pool and head to the beach in 3 minutes time is also a huge plus.
Rooms are spacious and classic - beautiful marble bathrooms.
Food is excellent - not a single complaint and we ate almost every meal there.
Notes to people with kids - there is a CVS across the street (which sells wine) and a high end grocery store. So if one night, you wanted to skip getting everyone ready for dinner, you can easily walk across the street, grab a bottle of wine, charcuterie for you and yogurt for the kids and enjoy the amazing sunset over the Pacific while your kids enjoy the fire pit and beach. It is huge plus too if you don't feel like packing all the snacks, diapers, sunscreen etc - you can get it all right across the street.
Clearly we had an amazing stay and hope to be back as soon as we can. Thanks so much to the Montage for a perfect vacation!
