How to Get There
I would highly recommend this inn, it is fabulous and very picturesque. It is very close to downtown Toronto by the subway which is right outside the Old Mill Inn. It has a feel of old England but is very enjoyable
We've been here for special occasions before, but the was the first time we stayed over. Such a nice, old style, rambling establishment with so much character. It is great to tour the grounds and the buildings themselves -- the decors and ambience are wonderful.
This hotel can be expensive, but good deals are available if you look around. We had a very comfortable, clean and charming room. Breakfast was included in the restaurant, and featured a nice buffet with a beautiful view of the patio and building. The service was really friendly, showing us around, providing information and helping us out with travel and sight-seeing details.
Other good features -- a room safe, free parking, maps for self-directed walking tours along the river, a friendly pub, a small but interesting gift shop, and right around the corner from the subway. I did not want to leave!
First, you cannot help but notice a bad odor as soon as you enter the property. Very musty and old type smell. Second, the address for the hotel in Google Maps/Uber/Lyft takes you to a banquet hall entrance. It is a 10 minute walk to the hotel lobby/guest check-in if you can even find it. Very few and small signs to direct guests when they arrive at the hotel on how to get to the check-in desk. We saw this happen many many times when other guests arrived. We were all very unhappy with arrival situation. The hotel has lots of small problems that added up to a bad experience. Our coffee machine did not work, no luggage rack and only 4 hangers in the closet. No place to unpack in the rooms, i.e. no chest of drawers. The elevators were very slow and often missed your floor even when the floor button was lit. The breakfast was not very good at all. The food was low quality and the breakfast room was to small and crowded. The tables were in the way of people trying to get food at the buffet. Very uncomfortable experience. When we dialed "0", the phone just rang and rang. No body at the front desk ever answer our calls. We had to walk to the front desk every time we needed assistance.
When we talked with the staff about our concerns, we got an excuse or a shrug of the shoulders. The restaurant was closed 2 of the 4 days we were there. Given this hotel is far away from anything, that was a problem for us. Their business is weddings and not the ordinary traveler. And to top it alloff, they have a $12 a day facility fee that is totally a scam!
August 2018: OUTSTANDING !!!! The OLD MILL recently emailed a "FRIENDS + FAMILY" Special and because our stays have always been so wonderful, we immediately contacted the hotel to book. Those seeking old-world charm, a quiet oasis in the middle of a busy city, it offers a Bed & Hot Breakfast Package. Special touches included a complimentary bottle of Jackson-Triggs Red Wine and Ice Wine Truffles that were so very much appreciated and enjoyed.
THANK YOU, Michael, for your professionalism and care shown in taking the time to answer all questions, patiently, and very thoughtfully when booking. At CHECK-IN, we had the pleasure of meeting you in person. Once again, we were so impressed by your announcement of an UPGRADE from a Room to a SUITE — such a wonderful surprise! As promised, you called to ensure we were settled in and satisfied with our accommodations — so WELL BEYOND expectations, the 1,000 sq.ft. suite was incredible!!!
Attention to all the details, very well presented and maintained, soft music and scented upon entering our room. SPACIOUS, light-filled rooms, very comfortable King bed, linens, plenty of pillows, towels, robes and slippers were appreciated as was the 2-person jacuzzi tub. The patio, well-groomed grounds and the water-feature all added to the lovely ambience, the setting in the valley creates a quiet oasis away from the sounds of a city.
Thank you for treating us with the utmost courtesy and care.
It's become our home away from home.
A little ways west of the Toronto core, the Old Mill is a cozy, grand hotel and meeting area. It looks like an old English pub mixed with a conference centre, in that it has a plethora of meeting rooms, formal dining areas, and courtyards while maintaining an olde-times feel.
Buffet lunch was tasty and diverse, though not overly gourmet.
