How to Get There
My wife and I stayed at the Old Mill while we were attending a friend's wedding. Our room was on the fourth floor, with a view of the Humbert Valley nearby (well, if I stood on my tippy toes... the lower half of the window was frosted glass). The room was nice and spacious, with a sofa and lazy chair as well as a desk complementing the king-sized bed. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi bathtub, although we were disappointed to find that toothbrushes were not included in the free toiletries. The electric fireplace was a nice touch, and my wife found that it helped her sleep.
The food was to die for. We had dinner at the wedding we were attending, and everything served was delicious. After servings of tomato bisque and Caesar salad, we enjoyed chicken (8 oz in mushroom sauce) and steak (8 oz in a red wine sauce) as well as cheesecake. So pleased were we with the wedding fare we decided to order breakfast at the Home Smith Bar. Although we had some sticker shock -- the prices on the paper menus were about 150% higher than the prices on the menu available online -- we were still more than satisfied with our three-egg omelette and eggs benedict.
The Old Mill is a popular place for weddings and other events, and the night we stayed there eleven -- eight wedding receptions, a bat mitzvah, a wedding anniversary, and a birthday. These events are held in rooms located across the hotel from the guest bedrooms, and so they did not disturb us when we slept.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Old Mill if you're looking for a rustic hotel that feels far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Nice staff and good service. Seafood was good. scone was good though there was nothing to eat with the scone
good for family
Quality of food was normal not a lot of variety
I feel the value was more that the quality ... doesn't deserve the money we paid
I was planning to try the afternoon tea but after i tried the brunch I changed my mind.
We booked a suite. Carpets were worn and the window in the suite was falling out of the frame. Poor soundproofing. Had to complain of the noise 3 nights out of five. Bar breakfast is VERY limited and expensive. Six dollars for one croissant! Gratuity (15%) added to the bill PLUS a service charge (Huh?). Restaurant only open a few days a week. Still good food and great staff. This is the second time we've stayed there and unfortunately it will be the last.
There were 13 of us for this Birthday celebration, we were given our own lovely section. Our server Robert was very attentive. We were given a menu with a wide selection of herbal tea to select from, this was served, then our high tea food was brought out. It was so pretty, three tiers of delicious. The bottom tray was fancy open face sandwiches, middle tray was scones with Devonshire cream. The top level had petit fours. Delicious. Would definitely recommend.
Old Mill is charming. The olde worlde decor may not be for everyone but it is very welcoming. We spent 4 nights on the top floor with a lovely view of the river and trees. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was not the most comfortable I have experienced but it was OK. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent - we had the buffet on Sunday night.
I would highly recommend this hotel which is in a residential neighbourhood, but with easy access to the Subway for downtown Toronto.
