How to Get There
Called the hotel to make a reservation. I made it clear that I wanted a great falls view and that if it were not available to please say so. I was assured that their falls views were fantastic. Fast forward our arrival, the hotel is not what I would expect for a room that’s almost $200 per night. They’re also going to hit you up for another $30 for parking, as if they expect the majority of guests to not need parking once they arrive. The hotel is not nice. It’s old and in desperate need of an update. We’re talking the bed skirts have holes in them they’re so old. The pillows were horrible, we couldn’t connect to WiFi and, alas, THE FALLS VIEW WAS NOT EVEN MEDIOCRE. I went downstairs to the desk to discuss my concerns with the staff and was ultimately directed to the manager. I expressed my disappointments, in a way that was not ugly, and offered to pay whatever charges were necessary to upgrade our room, as I was not trying to get something for nothing. The manager was a jerk and displayed zero interest in trying to accommodate my request. Not even if I paid more money. I asked him what options were available if we decided not to stay. He said we would still be charged full price for the room. I played along. We paid for his sub-par room, that we didn’t even stay in, then went down the street to the Embassy Suites and got an awesome room, with an awesome view, from a courteous staff. The Embassy Suites is more money, for sure, but you get what you pay for. Except in the case of the Hilton, because you will not get what you pay for there.
We had a great view. Room was clean in a good location. However if you have to use use their valet parking service ( we had to due to our car being larger and wouldn't fit in the free parking ) it's $49 plus a day. Hopefully you won't need that service. Other than that room is clean the falls view rooms are awesome. Great location close to good restaurants.
The view wasn’t that great and the rooms were not as clean. Everything felt old including the TV. The food was not good but cost a lot. The amenities were definitely was
Not as good as other hotels we have been to. We had a family of 5 but they gave us 3 sets of towels. Every time they cleaned the place we had to request for more towels. It was a frustrating experience I wouldnt recommend it. We paid a lot for a water view but they gave us the lowest level so we had a partial view and the rest was blocked by another building. Additionally the elevators were slow l.
Before I begin, Mr. Ford, please don't waste your time with a canned reply on how you hope we'll give your hotel another try when we return to the area because at over $800 Canadian for 2 nights including parking and the outrageous area taxes, we won't be back.
We booked a 2 bedroom premium view room primarily because in my opinion, if your going to go this far, go all the way. I didn't realize the premium view was of the casino next door. The windows were so dirty, that is what my camera picked up most when taking pictures. I know, spring time and on the 33rd floor of the North Tower, hard to get to... yet somehow the Restaurant on the 33rd floor of the South Tower had window we could see through. Although you couldn't get a cappuccino there because the machine was broken, so was the one upstairs, although I appreciate the effort of the staff on that one.
The website mentions the Pool and Fitness Center is Closed until Winter of 2019. Nothing is mentioned about the amount of construction going on until you get there and learn of the 5,000 seat theater being built attached to the hotel.
At $49 for Valet Parking, it shouldn't take 28 minutes to get my car. Self Parking is actually closer and easy to get to and you can grab your car when you want it.
The Staff here is great and they really do go all out to make your stay comfortable. Except for the jerk eggs to order cook in the Watermark who insisted in the most unpleasant way that we line up in a particular way before he would take our order. Location to the falls is great, but please don't miss a chance to tour the falls from the US side at the state park. The Discovery Ticket is a great deal considering all you get and it's reasonable. In fact, grab lunch near there too and avoid more Canadian taxes.
As for hotels, keep looking. Maybe the Doubletree or the Embassy Suites... at least until construction is completed.
So Mr. Ford, most people do only come once... it could be a bucket list trip or a chance to explore with family. This was actually my second time at the hotel, the first being by myself on a business trip and this was a chance to share with my family. On a trip like this, you only get one chance and while you may get hundreds of us a day, for those of us who plan, research and sometimes spend months looking forward to these days, it each detail is a big deal.. to us that can't be simply repeated.
This hotel is absolutely incredible! Note the hotel is under renovations when you book direct it is front and center on the website but this did NOT hinder our experience at all! The hotel is stunning and the food was top notch and was able to check in early. I suggest getting there early and waiting for them to contact you when your room is ready as the lines at check in time were long! The hotel has three separate towers connected by the ground floor. We were in the South tower on floor 49 out of 51 and paid a little bit more for the Canadian Falls View and it was WORTH IT! The room was super comfortable and had a shower instead of tub and shower combo. Both my boyfriend and I were able to fit inside comfortably. The room was super spacious and service was wonderful. It was interesting that you can faintly hear the thunder of the falls through the walls.
We went to the Spyce Lounge for food and drinks both were great. The had the sliding window doors open to the street level and it was super comfortable. We had breakfast on the 2nd floor which was tasty and abundant. We then had dinner at the Watermark which had stunning views of the falls. Service was great and prompt. We will certainly be back and hopefully we will get to see the whole property when the renovations are complete!
