How to Get There
My husband and I are currently staying here. My husband is attending a meeting at the Convention Center. We did not know about the forced valet parking until we arrived. I do not like to have my car held hostage, charged to have it parked at night, and then expected to tip for something I could do myself!
The room itself was fine and completely clean, but the service from start to finish was some of the worst I've ever experienced...and the kicker - I work in the hotel industry so I try to best to be sensitive about these sort of reviews.
From start to finish we were treated very poorly at this property. The valet team when dropping off the car was incredibly rude, they were trying to rush us out of our car (which I understand to a certain extent especially if they are busy). I made a mistake and accidentally left my phone in the car, went right back outside, and they were so annoyed that I dare forget something in my car, and in general just made me feel awful for even asking if I could just go grab it out myself. I am sure I'm not the first person to accidentally leave something in their car.
Moving on, the front desk team was fine. Later on, my friend and I went to the bar to grab a late night dinner, the bar was full of people (Saturday night). We sat at the bar and ordered, the male bartender was visibly annoyed at everyone sitting at the bar to the extent that it made us uncomfortable that we decided to sit at the bar. I'm guessing he probably he wanted to go home, but hey, it's hospitality, bar closes when people stop spending money, so suck it up, pour your drinks take your tips, and at least fake putting a smile on your face. He was one of the most unfriendly bartenders I've ever crossed. There was a female bartender working as well, and opposite of her male colleague, she was super friendly - most-likely trying to compensate for her colleage....
Moving on...Sunday morning, we had a long drive home, so we ordered the car way in advance to be pulled around....The car took 45 minutes to be pulled around. There weren't many people up at that hour, but everyone awake was waiting just like we were. 45 minutes
In all, this was the worst experience I've had with a Marriott/Starwood property, this bunch just doesn't know how to be hospitable, and left me very disappointed with my stay. I do not recommend this property only because of the staff. I'll give two stars instead of one solely because the hotel was well-kept and because the club level at this property was nice.
Had a very nice visit over the weekend and this is a very nice property. There is nothing I can say bad at all. Staff was GREAT, bellmen fantastic everything great. Highly recomend this property to everyone
The room was very comfortable and clean.
The bed was very comfortable.
However, it is very dated including lack of USB chargers.
THe doors to the bathroom do not latch and no fan in the bathroom.
Ordered room service and the food was good, pricey but good.
Nothing validates good service than a good recovery. With a flight delay, 3 am check in and traveling with a baby, we arrived at the Westin downtown exhausted and absolutely defeated. Imaging our sadness when the crib that we have requested for the baby was never placed in the room. By 5am we had settled for a pack and play, with tears in our eyes and an apologetic staff. In the morning when approaching the manager on duty, he already new the situation we had been dealing with, knew us by name, and recovered from what easily could have been an absolutely terrible trip. He comped our room for the night and offered us a free meal. Although it did not erase the bags under my eyes, it 100% made the next day better, allowing us to enjoy a bit more of the city. Thank you to the manager tremaine and the housekeeping attendant who was beyond helpful in our ordeal Luis Cruz and the sweetest front desk agent India. I am very impressed on how a mistake was rectified and once again validated this great brand.
