A few changes since last time
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed here about 5 years ago and loved the hotel. The hotel has immaculate grounds and a large clean swimming pool. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The hotel is up on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. Last time we stayed here the hotel had an arrangement with a beach front club... (Cocos?) and guests could use the beach. This time we could not. We ate at Cocos last time, this time, 4pm Cocos wanted a cover charge to eat in their restaurant. We passed.
We arrived on a motorcycle and have been touring Mexico on a motorcycle for 5 years and about 20,000 miles. While parked at the Hotel Aldea del Bazar a luggage bag on the motorcycle was rifled through - since there was only rain suits in the bag nothing was taken - but this was the first time in 5 years that our motorcycle was tampered with in Mexico.
I'm fairly convinced that a waiter here attempted to short change us 100 pesos. The bill was 170 pesos, I gave 300 pesos and the waiter asked if I needed change - really? a 80% tip? When the waiter brought back the change it was only 30 pesos - the waiter noticed I looked confused and I explained that the change appeared to be short. The waiter brought the missing 100 peso bill back to the table. This was another first for me visiting Mexico. Now it could have been an honest mistake.... but it didn't seem that way to me. I don't intend to get anyone in trouble, this was my observation only.
The hallway is very dark and it's hard to see well enough to get the key in the door.
These experiences would not keep me from staying here again, all in all the pros outweigh the cons.

great find
Reviewed 2 months ago

this is hotel, though a bit dated, offers large comfortable rooms and a huge pool with ample seating space under shade. definitely a great find for the cost. it is in a quiet setting but not far from restaurants and swimming beaches,. Extremely helpful staff: thank you Moises Romero and Reynalda!

Comfortable rooms - Quiet
Reviewed 1 year ago

Have been to Puerto Escondido many times. Thought we would stay a little further out this time. Glad we did. The hotel rooms are large and clean, comfortable beds.
The property is big, lots of open areas to relax and take in the sunsets.
Bar - Rest area is nice and open. Big pool which you need for those hot days.
Walking into town is a half hour or a cheap quick taxi ride. The "Arabic" architecture ??
Some reviews said it is so Mexican/Spanish ??? Maybe if you are in southern Spain or Morocco. Interesting architecture for down south in Oaxaca. Only draw back was the price of beer at the bar...50 peso's !!! in a foam cup.... way to expensive.

Beautiful, serene, quiet, older property
Reviewed 2 years ago

I had been to this property 25 yrs ago and was very impressed. Our recent visit was pleasant. The grounds are very lovely but the property is older. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing property, this is a good one. There is a beach club Coco's close by and it is very nice and has a lovely ocean view. However, this property is located on the outskirts of town. Zicotela Beach is at the opposite side of town. It's where the major surfing competitions are held in May and November, night life and entertainment.
