How to Get There
My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and decided to book a hotel. Being from Honolulu, we looked around at other hotels in the area and compared style and price. We narrowed our staycation down to two nights at the Laylow or one night at Turtle Bay on the North Shore. The Laylow won us over as we were looking forward to a long relaxing two evenings away from home.
We parked our car and checked in around 3:30 PM. The people at the front desk informed us that they did not have a room for us and that we would be moved to a hotel down the block. They put us in a cab and pointed us in our new direction, telling us they'd like to have us back the next day for breakfast ensuring us they'd have a room ready tomorrow. Meanwhile, guests coming in behind us were happily being shown to their rooms. I couldn't help but feel like we were being treated as second-rate guests because we were paying the Kama'aina price. I questioned why they didn't call before our check-in time to let us know. We probably would have canceled and stayed home. Our room at the new hotel had two double beds when we asked for a king and the fire alarm went off at 3:00AM while we were on the 16th floor (this part wasn't anyone's fault, but was the cherry on top of everything). We paid for the room in the hotel we didn't pick, moved our stuff in the middle of our staycation and checked in to the Laylow on our second day.
Our stay just wasn't what we wanted at all. The room, pool, and breakfast were awesome and they even left champagne in the room for us, but our visit was not the relaxing home away from home we anticipated.
Being from Hawaii, we would have loved to recommend this hotel to guests from all over but unfortunately our disruptive and stressful stay was not one I would recommend to people. If we do choose to stay here again (which I would love because the hotel is honestly great) I would likely call everyday and before checking in to make sure they had my room and reservation.
Cute little hotel tucked away in the heart of Waikiki! Upon check in, we were greeted by Ashley at the Front Desk. She was very professional and exemplified the true meaning of the ALOHA spirit! Our check in was a smooth process and she even gave us a complimentary upgrade when she found out we were celebrating a special occasion. Will definitely be returning. Thank you again Ashley for the outstanding customer service!!
This is our first time staying at Laylow and it will not be the last. The hotel is pet friendly, the front desk personnel are very helpful and accommodating. The housekeeping ladies assigned to our room namely Amor and Charlie made sure our room was clean and very thorough in their work. We will definitely be back to stay at Laylow.
We had a great time at this hotel and a lot of it had to do with the staff throughout the hotel. The front desk people were so nice but it didn’t stop there. Everyone we encountered was wonderful. We had a Junior suite which was very nice. It had a very comfortable bed and a couple of small lanai’s. Loved the small refrigerator. We didn’t have a view but we were close to a lot of really great shops and restaurants. . Easy access to the beach about a block and a half away and a lovely pool area that’s equally fun at night as it is in the day. The restaurant is amazing! We had flat bread, a spinach salad and some amazing pineapple dessert. I felt very comfortable at the hotel and everyone made us feel like we were at home. Lots of great branding throughout the hotel. Mahalo and we’ll be back!
We really had a wonderful time at The Laylow. The place is picture perfect - every corner is beautifully styled with lush plants, unique art and paintings, and modern design. When we arrived, the concierge was super helpful in getting us checked in, noticed we were SPG members, and kindly upgraded us to a room on the 16th floor. This was preferable to us over a room by the pool, as it was higher up, less rowdy from the bar and pool noise, and the floor had complimentary coffee, water, and snacks. This was perfect because the mornings came with a pastry or a ham and cheese croissant, and evenings had cookies!
The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the furniture was well kept in great condition. We also loved the toiletries including the soap and hair product in the bathrooms, we were tempted to take the leftovers home! The only drawback here was the loud air unit in the room - most nights this was fine, but a couple of nights it kept us up with a whirring and whistling sound which was quite annoying.
We would absolutely stay at the Laylow again, however, I think I would be sure to request a room without the noisy air unit, and I think that if they had more incentive to welcome guests to the Hideout - say, with a happy hour or a complimentary bev upon arrival - it would have been perfect. I also wouldn't count on renting a car, as it was quite expensive to valet the car overnight...$45/night!
