How to Get There
Stayed here for 6 nights. Straight off we sensed trouble. The street was closed at our arrival time and the hotel, despite many notices around the building alerting clients to this, failed to inform us of this when we gave them our arrival time. We had a lot of problems navigating our way to the hotel.
We went to the beach next morning and were told it was $64 to hire sun loungers and a parasol for the day, in addition to our already prepaid charge for facilities. OK. However on payment we discovered no sun loungers were available and were given 2 chairs which were broken or malfunctioning. Let alone the price, how can a hotel of this standing not have enough sun loungers?
The hotel is immediately adjacent to two other hotels whose staffs were on strike and mounting strenuously noisy pickets in the vicinity of our hotel from 7am. This made relaxing at the pool or beach pretty impossible. In fact, getting out of the hotel was sometimes difficult. The hotel did nothing to help or express sympathy to clients many of whom, like ourselves, had travelled many miles for a once in a lifetime trip.
Possibly as a result of the adjacent strikes, the restaurants were incredibly busy. They were noisy and difficult to book. So as a resident in the hotel, we found it difficult to use beach, pool or restaurants. Not the usual situation with a high class hotel, where you expect exclusive facilities. Thank goodness we had a car and could visit other beaches, and make use of the hotels excellent position with regard to restaurants.
We also booked a room with "sea view" and could only say, while the room itself was excellent, it was "partial sea view".
The car valets were excellent, as was the chambermaid and the custodian of towels at the pool.
Excellent location right in the heart of Waikiki with both a pool and beach access.
The staff are friendly and accommodating, the rooms are nice and it was wonderful being able to keep the door open at night and listen to the waves crashing while we slept!
We requested an ocean view (different from ocean front - just be mindful) and when we got to the check in, the lovely team member organised an even better room for us after we explained the reason we wanted the room was to be able to sit and watch the water on early nights in as we had my 6yo with us on the holiday (I went with a friend).
The only hiccup for me was they didn’t have pillows with some substance and with chronic back issues, that’s a concern. But, I was able to buy a great one cheapily at Ross around the corner. I find hotels of this level do have back up pillows so that’s why I thought it may be worth noting...
The other thing to note is it’s a big hotel with lots of rooms so waiting for lifts can be tiresome.
But .., all in all... exceptionally happy!
This was our first stay on Waikiki Beach and did not know what to expect. When we walked into our room at the Outrigger, we were met with a Fantastic view!! This is now our "go-to" place in Hawaii....
The staff were very professional and pleasant, with a high service standard.
The room did not have kettle or wine glasses, and furnishings were old.
It is close to the shopping and tourist places.
Pool area and bar was good.
The beach was awful - for visiting the beach it would have been better to stay in a resort on the south end of Waikiki.
Food was over-priced and found much better a short stroll away.
Stayed here with my family of four (2 kids - 8 & 11 yrs old) and booked a king room with sofa bed city view through Expedia. Our flight from Sydney arrived at 6am, caught Charlie’s Taxi (flat rate $29 from the airport). Was served by Rey at front desks and he was very efficient, quick and gave us all the information we needed. We were lucky our room was ready early at that time of the morning! And when we got in our room 543, we were again so blessed to be upgraded to a room with two double bed and partial view of the ocean and direct view of the beautiful pool!!! It was a great start of our holiday in Hawaii!
Got complimentary beach bag and we also did our vows renewal (15 yrs wedding anniversary) the next day. This was also complimentary as a guest! It was such a beautiful ceremony and so glad my children was able to witness us exchange our vows. We just wore our normal casual attire, we bought Lei’s to exchange to one another (abc store). There was a professional photographer (charge is $250 for full package or $32 per photo plus postage). Our kids just took our pics. There was a singer and dancer that performed at the beginning and end of the ceremony. Highly recommend this free service to any guest who is celebrating a milestone.
Our room was good size, very clean and comfy. Bathroom and vanity also nice. Us Aussie though love having our tea but there was no kettle/tea. Love the Massive tv - I think 55 inch!
We also did lei making activity which was great! Watched seniors hula dancers and learnt to do the hula.
Pool was big size and my kids loved it. The free fruit flavored water in the pool area was great! Good access to the beach.
We ate lunch at Steak Shack (right hand side when going to the beach - almost next to the hotel). Great casual beach food with the beach view!
We also ate at Denny’s - yum and lots of variety of food.
ABC store close by (2mins walk) it’s like oz’ 7eleven also with lots of souvenirs to buy from, this abc store also have hot food that can be purchased like fried chicken, super yum!
We also got an SIM card from Hoku Wireless (Oahu East Hotel) to use during our stay in Hawaii which came with unlimited calls, internet data and can call Aussie phone numbers for $49!
This area is great for the high end shopping and it’s quieter, safer and didn’t see any homeless around unlike Kūhiō Ave (midway towards zoo).
Another plus was we got free late check out till 12pm!
Loved our stay at Outrigger Reef! Highly recommend to everyone!
