A country retreat with an exceptionally grown-up feel, this sprawling estate’s hub is a giant golf course which ends at windswept Northumberland shores. Book one of twelve New England-style houses, each with private balcony or terrace, Frette linens, and a slew of luxe welcome amenities including wine, chocolate-dipped strawberries, cheese plates, and cigars. The tweedy, stealth wealth clientele congregate on the golf course, tennis courts, or shooting range during the day, then convene fireside with whiskey before heading to rich dinners of lobster and steak in the semi-formal Great Room restaurant.
In the Area
The idea here is to never leave the grounds, thanks to the endless array of on-site activities, from making the most of the great outdoors to indulging in head-to-toe spa pampering. Guests can take out mountain bikes (the resort provides 6 adult Treks and 2 children’s Norco bikes), paddle around in Ocean Malibu Kayaks or try their hand at beach volleyball on a court set next to the Northumberland Strait. In winter, head to Ski Wentworth, a mountain resort that lures boarders, skiers and tubers, just 25 minutes from the resort.
How to Get There
Beautiful resort, fabulous accommodation and amazing staff.
Stayed in the Hartford House, it was well cleaned with spotless interior and exterior. All other homes and rooms looked just as amazing. Pool was beautiful with great locker room and many activities for all ages. Staff members were very friendly and accommodating, they exceeded expectations. Staff member, Bill went over and above to make our stay extra enjoyable. Overall an amazing resort.
We were looking for golf resorts in Nova Scotia and WOW .... did we find one !
THE ACCOMMODATIONS - The Executive Suites are nothing less than perfect. Large, excellent bathrooms and every possible amenity. Extremely well appointed and comfortable. Beautiful, classy and functional decoration. The grounds are gorgeous and beautifully manicured. Check-in and check-out was a breeze - fast and easy.
THE FOOD - Exceptional ! Both the main dining room and the bar was simply outstanding. Menues are varied and extensive. We salute the Chef for his presentations, quality and taste of all his dishes. You MUST try his "lobster sous-vide".
THE GOLF - Much kudos to the head pro Mike Clarke. Most charming, welcoming and friendly, he is a special person who treats everyone perfectly. The golf course (and the Par 3 course) is challenging, fair, scenic and perfectly groomed. Fun to play and not punishing.
OTHER ACTIVITIES - A plethora of summer activities (hiking, fishing, boating, kayaking, horseback riding, skeet shooting, archery, etc.) are available including a wonderful Spa with a giant indoor pool. Note that they have a private airstrip for anyone who would like to fly in.
HOUSEKEEPING - Outstanding ! As close to perfect as possible. If anything were missing, a simple phone call immediately brought anything we needed.
SERVICE - The entire staff are extremely well-trained in polite, efficient and complete service throughout the property. Everyone seemed enthusiastic and pleasant. I salute the General Manager for running this tight ship with excellent training.
Overall, this property offers a superior and comfortable stay with loads of activities (beside golf) in a beautiful seaside setting. If you have read my other reviews, you see that we have travelled to every corner of the planet and I am an accurate and informed reviewer. This resort, seemingly in the middle of nowhere (but actually a very easy and short drive from Halifax airport), is truly a hidden gem and most certainly one of the best in the entire country.
Treated to a five star experience as soon as we drove up the road. Grounds are amazing, room was perfect, shuttle service spot on and the meal in restaurant both for the evening and breakfast was top notch. Only regret we had to leave after only one night!
Lovely grounds. Beautiful scenery. Kind staff. Would definitely recommend a visit to this resort. The only disappointing area is their bar program. For the price you pay for drinks they are not very good.
A weekend getaway to this beautiful golf course in Nova Scotia was a weekend of paradise for me and my hubby. Well kept grounds can be seen from my room. The room was nice and cozy with a fireplace in the sitting area. Great service by the entire staff. Has a hangar and a little runway (for those who might need such!! ) Tiger Woods golfed there - a signed photograph is up on the wall. The spa is excellent. All round an excellent stay.
