How to Get There
Easily in the top 5 of my all time favorite hotels. Relatively inexpensive for the level of luxury and very professional and courteous staff.
My room was upgraded to a junior suite at no extra charge and the room was gorgeous.Besides the free shuttle service to the Hermitage museum, you can also request for luxury tours to places like Peterhof in BMW cars without breaking your bank.
The hotel is in a nice and quite location and about 12 minutes walk from the popular Nevsky prospect area.
I highly recommend this hotel with your partner/family even though my trip was a solo sightseeing trip.
This is a very nice hotel with good rooms and efficient service. One small knock is that it is a good 20-30 minutes away from the major tourist sites of the city, including its namesake, the Hermitage Museum. The hotel did, however, provide us with free tickets to the museum (not sure if they do this for every guest) and a free shuttle to it. They also drove us to restaurants in the evening without charge, which was appreciated. Nice neighborhood with some local restaurants within walking distance. The rooms were excellent. Definitely worth considering this hotel.
The hotel is very nice, the lobby is spacious and very nicely decorated. All the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are not very large but very comfortable. Bathroom is great.
The breakfast buffet is very nice, service is friendly.
Eventhough the name is Hermitage, the hotel is not near the Hermitage, about a 45 minute walk through the city which is very nice or the hotel has a complimentary shuttle.
The State Hermitage Museum Official Hotel is quite new. Although it's been built to look like its namesake, it's very modern. The decor has been done very well - it's very elegant and tastefully done. It also has all of the modern conveniences and design elements of a new 5-star hotel.
Despite the name, the hotel is actually 4km from the Hermitage. This isn't a problem as there is a ticket machine for the Hermitage in the foyer of the hotel and a free shuttle bus which drives at the opening time (10:30) to a preferred drop-off point at the entry of the museum. It couldn't have been more seamless. What I really liked about the hotel was the proximity to Rubenstein Street. This street is lined with local (somewhat upmarket) bars and restaurants. Although these restaurants are all aimed at locals and are not tourist restaurants, they all have English menus and (some) English-speaking staff. So, despite the hotel being a bit further from the main tourist sights, the choices in the evening certainly made up for this. It is a 15 minute walk to Nevsky Prospect. If you want to get to the other end of Nevsky Prospect, you can't take the metro (a couple of hundred metres from the hotel). Note that in Russian cities, distances are much further than they appear on the map.
The hotel breakfast was included in our room rate and one of the best hotel breakfasts I can recall. There was a huge variety of options, cappuccinos and lattes included and the service in the restaurant was flawless. In fact, the service at this hotel is probably the best I can recall encountering, anywhere.
The only criticism I would make of the hotel was that the gym was pretty small and ordinary. I don't know if there is a pool, but being St Petersburg, I doubt you would want to get in it anyway.
In summary, I would highly recommend the hotel.
As other visitors noticed the price vs the quality provided is very good. Yes it is expensive but the quality of the rooms, service, food is comparable. We've been 4 couples and all of us are very satisfied with what we found. This hotel in western Europe could have been price at double the price.
I would like thank in particular to the concierge team, Maxim and Mikhail and Anastasiia from reservations.
