How to Get There
- Friendly service
- Large, well-appointed, spotlessly clean rooms. The bed was super comfortable, the blackout curtains effective, the bathroom spacious and well-lit (with heated marble floors), and there was no street noise or noise from other rooms or the hallway. Overall, you're set up for a great night's sleep. Room service was decent, too.
- If you stay a couple of nights, you get a free pass to the Hermitage that allows you to bypass all the lines and enter directly through a back entrance, escorted by the chauffeur who drives you there. (Keep in mind, though, that you'll still have to wait in line and pay for a ticket if you want to go to the Assembly building next door, where all the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists are kept.)
- While the front desk staff was friendly, sometimes their English-language skills were not up to the standards of an international hotel.
- Location. I knew that this hotel was outside of the city centre, but it seemed super close on a map. However, even at a quick pace, it's a 20 minute walk to the edge of the city centre, and a 40 minute walk to the heart of town (where the Hermitage is). I'd tend to advise folks to stay within the city centre itself, even if hotels at the core cost more money - especially if the weather's bad or you're not a fan of long walks.
We thought the Hotel was next to the Hermitage Museum, but it is not. We were at first disappointed, but ended up loving being in a quieter area of the city, away from the huge tourist crowds on Nevsky Prospekt! The hotel offers shuttle service to and from the Museum. We took the shuttle over, and walked back to the hotel. This is a lovely property with spacious and extremely comfortable rooms. We were there during White Nights and enjoyed the rooftop terrace with stunning city views!! The service is absolutely amazing. Communicating in English was very easy, but do at least learn how to say please and thank you in Russian! The city receives many cruise ship passengers on day tours. Get a Visa and stay longer at this lovely hotel in this beautiful city!. There is too much to see and do in only one day.
We traveled here during the white nights time of the year. With over three million pieces to the collection it’s impossible to see let alone show. At any one time only 3% of their collection is on display. We chose a theme tour, so our focus took us to three of the seven buildings. Having a guide got us to the front of the line. It 3as still crowded once got inside but having the guide allowed us to bypass the four wait for people buying tickets that day. Once inside, the quality of the collection was amazing. It exceeded my expectations and along with The Kremlin was one of the best museums we’ve ever visited. Can’t wait to go back and see more of the objects.
Beautiful hotel, excellent service. The Spa facilities were not too good.
The rooms were decorated very nicely.
excellent location. The concierge was particularly helpful in arranging our tours & restaurant reservations.Would highly recommend it.
We stayed at the Hermitage with a tour group and were very impressed with the luxury and beautiful interiors. The lobby featured a pianist or harpist in the evening and added to the effect. Our room was comfortable and stunning. I loved the two large closets with plenty of drawers for storage. The bathroom was spacious with a wonderful shower and soaking tub. Our housekeeping service was the best, and kept us stocked in toiletries, water, etc. during our six-night stay. The location was quiet, but the name is deceptive as the hotel is not a close walk to the Hermitage or central tourist area (if I did not know this prior to arriving, I would have been disappointed). However, there is quite a large group of restaurants only three blocks away, plus a convenient grocery store just half a block away (note that liquor sales close at 10 pm although the store is open until 11 pm). Also the main boulevard with malls, souvenir stores and restaurants is only a few blocks away. Our room 506 was very comfortable but our friend stayed in room 501 which seemed cozier and special, under the eaves with pullout windows opening to a walkway along the roof. On the night of the Scarlet Sails we watched the fireworks in the distance from the rooftop restaurant. We loved the extensive buffet breakfast, including caviar and champagne on Sunday. The breakfast staff surprised my husband with a small cake on his birthday and he felt quite special. Thank you!
