How to Get There
I had my second stay with my Mother at this beautiful hotel on St Patrick’s Day. We had previously stayed in November and We have enjoyed several birthday celebrations over the years in both Berts and Great Room. Have previously enjoyed Afternoon Tea which is fantastic and a real treat. Everything was perfect during our stay, from the lovely gentleman from America who checked us in and fulfilled my request of room 330, Art Deco twin room, which we had on our previous stay. This is a huge room think possibly a suite. Room has everything you need including toiletries, water, champagne and wine glasses, a fridge and a fantastic hospitality tray. The light up make up mirror is just fab as is the bath tub! We used the hot tub and sauna etc which was fab again, made even better by listening to the Vengaboys concert in nearby Custom House square. We had a three course meal in The Great Room. I had the duo of duck, venison and profiterole swans all delightful and the wine pairings were superb. Massimo was our waiter both at dinner and breakfast and he was so attentive and friendly, nothing we requested was too much trouble, we could have taken him home! We enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked to stay again when checking out for the 18th April for my Birthday, this time in the Victorian room, with Louise who was fabulous and noted all our requests, Louise has booked my previous stays over the phone too and is extremely friendly and professional. We can’t wait to return to our second home, thank you for making us feel so special on our visits. See you soon!
This hotel deserves its reputation as luxury. From the moment we arrived we were impressed by the staff and the hotel surroundings. Our room was art deco style and was so comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was both relaxing and delicious. We visited the cocktail bar in the evening and enjoyed the atmosphere and service. Can't wait for our next stay. Thank you to the Merchant for making a special occasion truly memorable.
This is our fourth stay at The Merchant and possibly our best yet. We were upgraded to an amazing quiet Art Deco room at the back of the building. The room was so opulent, warm and utterly gorgeous. The bed was possibly the comfiest I have stayed in. We asked for our pillows to be changed to feather and they were immediately with no fuss. On the Sunday morning we used the Hot Tub which was a fabulous treat. We hope to be back very soon.
The Merchant Hotel is truly beautiful and a real credit to Belfast. The decor is stunning and every area of the hotel is impeccable. The hotel is extremely clean and is adorned with lovely pieces of artwork and fresh flowers.
I was extremely excited to find out my Husband had booked us an evening away to the Merchant to celebrate my Birthday. I was however a little disappointed with some of the service we received upon arrival and didn’t feel like a valued guest, as I have been made to feel in many other establishments.
My main issue was that my husband had booked us into one of the Victorian rooms, I have wanted to stay in one of these rooms for some time. A number of days before arrival at the hotel I called to advise that our Son would be coming along with us. I advised he was 13 months old and we could bring our own travel cot. The lady I spoke to on the phone was the perfect ambassador for the hotel and advised it would be no problem at all to bring my son along, and that the hotel would provide a travel cot; wonderful!
When we arrived at the hotel the lady that checked us in was very pleasant and a young man brought us to our room. We advised upon arriving in the room that this was not what we had booked, it was an Art Deco room, very beautiful and spacious but not what we had requested. The young man called reception and she requested that my Husband come downstairs. My husband did so and I waited in the room, trying not to move and not allowing my young son down so as not to leave any marks in the room which surely was someone else’s. My husband returned to me and advised that the Hotel had decided to move us to an Art Deco room as it would afford us more space with our son and his cot that they had provided, they did however say we could have a look at one of the Victorian rooms. We ventured across the hotel past reception. The previously very pleasant lady told the young man who was taking us to view the other room that he should be very quick as she had other guests waiting. The tone used and remarks made me feel very embarrassed and even though we did very quickly look at the Victorian room which was also very beautiful, I advised my husband I didn’t want to cause a fuss and we should just return to the room allocated. Overall this experience annoyed me somewhat as at no point were we advised of our room change and no apology was issued to us.
Overall we had a good stay, as previously noted the hotel is beautiful, clean and very tastefully decorated, our breakfast was also incredible and the serving staff in the morning and the ladies on check out were professional and courteous. We chose not to complain as we didn’t want to cause any problems, but in hindsight for the cost of the room, it may be argued that you are paying for a service also, and in that regard I felt a little disappointed that my Birthday Surprise has not turned out quite as planned.
Stayed at the Merchant Hotel in Belfast, what an amazing place! The staff were so friendly & helpful- nothing was too much trouble. The building is beautiful and our stay was so luxurious, we felt like celebrities our whole stay. I will definitely return.
