Sometimes you build a place in your mind and when you go back there is slight disappointment. Not with the Merchant. It is an outstanding hotel. Amazing building, spacious bedrooms, fantastic dining hall and bar facilities ranging from cosy spots in front of the fire to lively jazz bar with (sore head in the morning) a good range of cocktails. Very well located for exploring Belfast and very reasonably priced. Add in a traditional Irish welcome from the helpful staff and it is perfect for a short break.

Wonderful Hotel

This is the second time we’ve stayed here & we were reminded just how much this really is an outstanding hotel. From the moment we walked in we were treated to top class customer service. It was such a lovely touch to be greeted with a handshake by the receptionist at check in. Every staff member we came into contact with was professional, friendly, helpful & efficient - and they all had smiles on their faces (which makes all the difference).

Our room was beautiful & so quiet, with everything to hand that we needed. The bed was just so comfortable that we almost missed breakfast in the morning as we fell asleep again after our alarm! Breakfast was delicious & The Great Room Restaurant where you have breakfast is simply stunning!

The whole hotel is impeccable & we couldn’t fault a thing. Stay here - you won’t be disappointed.

Gorgeous place, wonderful staff.

Had a lovely midweek break in the merchant hotel last week with a few friends. We arrived early and had lunch in the cloth ear. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. The staff were very helpful when choosing our meal, and took the time to go through the gluten free options for our friend with celiac disease, even offering to adjust the menu options to widen her selection.
The rooms were spacious, beautiful, and impeccably clean, complete with a huge shower and bath and, of course, a fully lit dressing table, perfect for ladies heading out on the town. If I had just 1 tiny criticism, the toiletries in the room weren't great quality. A little disappointing in such a nice hotel, but we had brought our own so we were unphased.
After we settled in, we decided to take a trip to the gym, to try out the rooftop hot tub we'd heard so much about. If you do nothing else during your stay, you have to go up there. The attendant (I think her name is Margaret, but I dont fully remember, sorry) offered us drinks while we relaxed in the bubbles (beer and prosecco available from the gym) and even got us cocktails sent up from the bar! She was a total delight, made sure we wanted for nothing, and was so friendly.
Our drinks were brought up by Gabriel from the bar, who we coincidentally met again later at room service. He was very friendly and fun, and gave us some great tips on how to spend our evening in the city, recommending some bars and restaurants nearby.
In the morning we went down for breakfast in the great room. It was a little busy so we had to wait for a table (understandable since there were 4 of us), but it was well worth the wait. There was a great selection, (including the best buttermilk pancakes I personally have ever had) and everything we needed was served to the table, so we could just relax and recharge.
All in all it was a wonderful experience, and we will definitely be back!
