How to Get There
When we arrived we were told that the apartment was not fit for purpose as it had been flooded by the occupant of the flat above. They offered us an alternative - the mezzanine apartment which was superb but had no balcony and a very limited sea view. They refunded the full amount we had paid and could not have been more helpful. However, we were only just above street level and it was incredibly noisy during the evening and at night - boy racers having a whale of a time on the coast road, so our relaxing break with breakfast on the balcony and a glass of wine in the evening did not happen. In fact we were unable to have the windows open because we could not hear the television.
We have just returned from a 4 night stay in a two bedroom sea view apartment.
The facilities and location were excellent, complemented by a superb view. We were entirely satisfied and would not hesitate to stay again. Highly recommended.
WOW WOW just returned from a three night break at the sands apartments
We had a two bedroom sea view apartment and it was fabulous amazing views from the balcony watching the waves crash over the sea.
The whole apartment is out of this world and there’s everything you need in the kitchen and every room, the staff cannot do enough for you and everywhere is so spotless clean can not wait to go back soon.
From what I'd heard I was expecting to be wowed when I walked in but I wasn't. In fact a little disappointed. It was lovely and clean apart from the place mats had dried food on and the oven racks hadn't been cleaned properly. Parts of the apartment were boarder line dated. It had been booked for our Ruby Wedding with our daughter, son in law and grandchildren. My daughter had phoned in advance thinking perhaps a complimentary bottle of wine, card or something, especially for the price paid, but nothing. We've stayed at Premier Inn for celebrations and they have left a bottle of wine and the room was a bargain. It wasn't a big deal for me but my daughter had tried to make the weekend special in every way so was disappointed with the response from staff. The other issue was parking. Someone had parked taking part of our space, which we told the staff about but nothing was done.
There's lots of other better, cheaper places to stay in Scarborough, which we found after booking so probably wouldn't stay at The Sands again.
We booked into The Sands Apartments for a 5 night break. These apartments really are 5 star, the fitted kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathroom were kitted out and decorated to a very high standard. The balcony (from our non sea view 1 bedroom apartment), got the sun from 2 o'clock right through into the evening. The staff are very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble.
The apartments themselves are very close to Peasholm Park and the open air theatre. There is an open top bus which takes you to and from the south bay by the promenade route (£4.50 for an all day hop on and off ticket).
Anyone who enjoys walking then this hotel is perfectly positioned, as when exiting the apartments, left turn takes you down to Scalby Mills, and a right turn takes you to south bay where the harbour is located. Both walks are on even ground with plenty of benches for anyone who likes to sit and admire the views or just have a rest break while enjoying walk.
My wife and I both loved these apartments and have already booked to go back next July for a similar 5 night break. Highly recommended.
