Accessible for the less able - an Amazing sea front 5 star apartment
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We've had several weekend breaks since the The Sands opened ten years ago and it never fails to deliver a fantastic quality holiday for us. We always book a seaview apartment and have stayed in several different ones - all of which are of the same high standard. They are very clean and the beds are comfortable. You never get any noise from the other apartments. Its good for friends and families. My husband has MS and has difficulty walking so we can take his mobility scooter up in the lift and right into the apartment. The shower in the apartment does have a step up, so its not wheel chair accessible and this is the case in all the apartments we've stayed in, so its worth checking if there are any with wet rooms. The staff are always happy to help with any questions. There are a number of luggage trolleys at the reception area which you can use to take everything up to your apartment and the lift is near the car partk - so its easy access for everyone

Visit number 8

We are reviewing as we consider ourselves experts. We first visited The Sands in 2015 with a family get together in a 3 bedroom sea view apartment, we were hooked.
Since then we have returned many times to a 1 bed non sea view apartment which was lovely, and a two bedroom spa apartment, an apartment facing the road, one facing the aquarium and this last time 214 facing the sea which we loved.
It says it all when my now 13 year old son choose to go with his mates for his 13th birthday, they had 3 days of fun on the beach, water park, arcades, bowling and eating lots, not to mention crazy golf and rowing on the lake in the park .
Staff are lovely, views amazing and we are currently looking at a break in Feb 2019. Just go it’s lovely, and on wet days the video library gave us a great opportunity to watch movies we never had time to see.
One of my favourite places.

Top-Notch Luxury At Great Off Season Prices
Reviewed 2 months ago

The Sands is the place to stay when in Scarborough if your budget will allow. During the summer their prices are extremely high but, we were surprised to discover, that in the off season they become a lot more affordable with their seasonal offers which run from October right through to almost the end of May.
We had long known about the excellent reputation of The Sands but the sky high prices put us off ever thinking about staying there. However, the autumn offer makes it far more tempting to give this legendary place a try.
We were amazed to discover that we could get a five night stay in one of their sumptuous two bed apartments for £499!
The North Bay location of this complex has deep family connections for me personally as I spent many of my earliest holidays here where my grandma ran a boarding house so it was a wonderful opportunity to be able to return to the North Side and experience such delightful accommodation many, many years later.
Right from the moment we opened the door to room 302 we knew this was going to be a very special stay. We were bowled over immediately by the 5 star luxury of the apartment. The kitchen area was equipped with everything you could possibly require for a totally self-contained stay in great comfort. The lounge area featured two settees, a giant TV with DVD player, games console and CD player. The view from room 302 was tremendous looking right along Marine Drive and the Castle and North Sea. There was a decent sized balcony too which we actually did manage to sit out on one afternoon sipping a nice glass of white wine.
Both of the bedrooms had their own separate en suite facilities and showers. Our only small complaint was that the room with the double bed has blinds which are not as effective at keeping the light out as the curtains are in the room featuring two single beds.
The complex itself has a great one stop convenience store which we used for basic provisions and a morning newspaper. For people wanting to dine there's Blue Crush which is a pub but serving an extensive list of quality food at reasonable prices. It has a great view also. If you show your Sands key fob you can receive 10% off main meals there as well. We ate there twice and enjoyed the food on both occasions. There are other retail outlets in the complex which we didn't use.

We came here without the car mainly to enjoy the walking since The Sands is located on the quiet North Bay away from the main South Side. There is, apparently, a designated parking space for people who do choose to bring their vehicles. During the five night stay we walked everywhere and, actually, the Old Town and South Side are not as far away as you might think if you walk fairly briskly. There's also Scalby Mills and the Sea Life Centre to walk to in the other direction.

Staying at The Sands was definitely an experience we will treasure and remember for a long, log time and we would highly recommend people who don't want to pay extremely high summer prices to take advantage of their off season offers which make this experience a lot more economical and affordable. Scarborough has something different all year round. Full details can be found on their own website. To get these offers you do need to book with them directly rather than using booking.com or some similar.

Oh, and finally, in room 302 the wifi performed very well only dropping out twice during the entire stay. The blurb does say it's only suitable for light browsing use but I was able to upload 640*480 sized photos to Facebook without any problem.

First time at the sands we had room 304 a two bedroom sea view and it was spotless fresh and furnished very well . It was great just to sit on the balcony with a Cuppa and watch the tide roll in .we did not know there was a family next door because you can not hear anything so they must have good sound proofing haha .another bonus is your allocated parking space and secure locking .my only gripe was that there was no smoking shelter inside the complex so you had to go outside on the Main Street and one lady was frightened so she was happy I was there .i think that you should make a shelter in the car park so residents can nip out and feel secure . Having said that we can not wait to go back so thank you all at the sands
