How to Get There
Slowest. Elevator. Ever.
When we first got to the hotel we were a little bit scared it looks like a creepy old haunted house. But after a nice evening at the restaurant ( we are kosher, so we ordered vegan and they couldn't have been nicer - good cocktails too) we got the hang of it. The architecture is really unique.
So for a five-star hotel they got some of the things right
1. They had free coffee as much is you want !!
2. They have 24 hour service at the desk ( which is really important because you have to leave your room key at the desk if you don't want to walk around with a huge hunk of metal in your pocket )
3. Nice clean rooms and lobby & outside space
and some of the things they missed:
1. when we got to the room the air condition didn't work at all -the room was boiling - despite us telling them a few times they didn't fix it at all. They brought up a fan which did the trick with the window open and we weren't there during the day. if we were we would have complained more and changed rooms.
2. The Wi-Fi was surprisingly bad. it wasn't that important to us luckily. At first it worked fine but later every 5 minutes it would turn off for 30 seconds. It got a little bit worse on our third day. Annoying...
3. We had no hot water our last day, (broken something) but I guess that could happen anywhere.
It is an extremely old preserved building so maybe a pipe burst or something.
It was a cool place for us as we never stayed at 4/5star hotels and our standards were low to begin with. all in all it was a positive experience with some annoying little things, and nothing really blew our minds.
Oh yeah. The elevator is super slow. But now I just laugh about it.
Excellent hotel with friendly and helpful service. Great ambiance, good breakfast, within walking distance of the centre. Only drawback, the older rooms do not have fans or AC and there is little ventilation.
Amazing hotel in central Cologne views incredible rooms superb. This conversion of an old water tower is off the scale. Breakfast Food is German and lots of it though a business hotel with conference rooms etc suits cuples or families as well will visit again
Stayed at the hotel from 3 to 5 March 2019 during the famous Cologne carnival. Joy and fun ended with the theft of money in the amount of 2,100 euros from a hotel room. The money was in the cosmetic bag in the inner pocket. Unfortunately, we discovered the loss when we returned to the Netherlands. We called the hotel. Asked to see the surveillance cameras. To which we received the answer that "NO cameras!" No security cameras on the floors ?! This is a hotel with a claim to elitism ?! We wrote a letter to the hotel administration. They answered that they could not help us. All issues are resolved only through the police. We wrote a statement to the Cologne police. We are waiting for the proceedings. Apparently, the staff is aware of the absence of security cameras and allows themselves to enter the rooms in search of other people's money. The rooms need repair! Furniture and textiles require replacement. Breakfast for an extra fee of 20 euros. Do not wait for diversity! If you choose this hotel - be attentive to personal things and money. Otherwise, the administration and staff will not help you.
The concept behind the hotel is an excellent one. The reception areas were very pleasant but we were not allowed to go to the roof terrace as it was being used for a private party. The room was a lovely size with some good views and it was very clean and comfortable, but the coffee machine was not working and the hotel does not serve drinks or food until after 5 pm.
The location was not good for us as it is not "in the city centre" as some reviews describe and it does not have a restaurant only bar food. I must add that the food and service we received from the bar staff was very good but it cannot be described as a restaurant.
We stayed two nights at this hotel and on the afternoon of the second day there was no cold water available in the hotel, then when we were getting ready to leave quite early the next day there was no hot water! When we checked out the guy on reception was extremely apologetic and said that he thought that the overall water problem had been fixed the previous evening.
Overall, pleasant staff, great idea but it did not work for us.
