How to Get There
Sisi-like hotel but when needed technology is there. Perfect place to meet all the people you need for business and then at the end of the day relax in the spa. Both the Enoteca and the Dali bar served great food (and affordable : Vendôme was closed unfortunately but I guess everybody deserves a holiday :-)).
Even though it is a big hotel you never feel lost due to the warmth of the architecture.
After a few nights in Cologne, the next stop on our itinerary was Schloss Bensberg in the hinterland behind Cologne.
While planning for our trip we discovered that Restaurant Vendôme was the highest ranked restaurant in Germany and it happened to be just outside of Cologne where we were spending a few nights for my birthday. After looking at the menu, booking a table was a no brainer. We decided to stay at the hotel because of the restaurant. The website at the time made the hotel look modest.
Boy were we in for a surprise – its starts as you progress up the drive way and the hotel quickly reveals itself. Check in was seamless and efficient. I’m writing this review almost a year after our visit and can still remember the personalised service, every staff member I interacted with wished me a happy birthday, which is quite a feat considering there would have been hundreds of guests at the time. A handwritten card and birthday cake awaited us in our room.
We booked a junior suite, generally because the price was competitive and not much more than the standard room. The room was HUGE. Stunning views over the gardens and down to Cologne.
We can’t recommend this hotel enough, it was definitely the surprise hotel of our trip. Do yourself a favour and book a night or more at the Althoff Grandhotel Schloss Bensberg – you wont be disappointed.
Dinner at Restaurant Vendome is also a must!!
Thank you Team Bensberg! Fantastic stay and Dinner as always. You know how to make one feel home away from home...
The palace was commissioned by Johann Wilhelm, Elector Palatine for his wife Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici. Anna Maria Luisa enjoyed the site's elevated scenery and views onto the river Rhine, Rhine Valley and Cologne Bight. The building was designed by Italian Baroque architect Matteo Alberti and completed in 1711
