Beautiful Schloss, great service!

What a nice stay we had in this hotel! The rooms a great, the food is nice and a special note to the staff! They are formal but in a very informal and personal way. Reception, as well as the restaurant staff. Compared to the size of the hotel a small gym but everything we needed, warm pool and good sauna facilities. Also separate for women. From the hotel you walk in 5/10 min to the forest, where you can have a nice walk. It is a nice a quiet place to stay!

Castle hunting for our 5 year old
Reviewed 1 month ago

We have been traveling the world with our kids and our youngest was only interested in Castles.

This was a great experience for all of us. The service was amazing. The amenities were outstanding. Since we are traveling the world with carry on only, laundry service is very important. They were able to get 5 days of clothes done for 4 people in hours.

The food was fantastic. The breakfast had soo many choices it even satisfied my foodie who gets a bit bored with breakfast. They were great with young children.

Beautiful Grand Palace...Home Away from Home
Reviewed 2 months ago

My first experience with this beautiful palace was two years ago...and, since then, we cannot stay away. Why would we? It's not only a historic landmark with so much to view...the chandeliers, the grand windows, the cobblestone, the beautiful view from the entrance, and the artwork of Salvador Dali...it's also a place that makes you feel like you are the most important guest in the world! I commend management for training such a friendly, attentive staff who always greet you with a smile and a sincere "how may I help you today". Yes, I'm in love with the place and the people. But, there is so much more. A beautiful spa with pool and sauna. Four fantastic dining venues, Jan Wellem, Enoteca, Dali Bar and the reputable, one-and-only Vendome. All treat you to a very unique dining experience. My favorites are the truffle and caviar pasta at Enoteca, the tapas at Dali, the EXTRAORDINARY champagne brunch at Jan Wellem, and every single course at Vendome. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, huge windows and beautifully designed bathrooms with marble, porcelain, huge mirrors (with fantastic views of Cologne and the beautiful neighborhood) carefully prepared by housekeeping during the day and turn down service before bed. Kudos to Hotel Director, Herr Kurt Wagner for his hospitality and always greeting us with a smile. Also, a big thank you to the Dali Bar staff (Vanessa, Angelina, and many other lovely ladies and gentlemen) who make the hotel such a fun place to hang out before and after dinner. I also recommend taking a walk through Bensberg. It's a cozy small town with friendly people and very beautiful boutiques. I can't say enough about my home away from home. I always look forward to my next stay!

A lovely grand dame hotel
Reviewed 2 months ago

We stayed at the Schloss this past Easter holiday weekend. The hotel was full with plenty of people checking in for the holiday. They do a lovely Easter here with little bunnies to pet on the front lawn, a luscious Sunday brunch and a fun kids racing track (with bobby cars, scooters and bikes all neatly lined for your speed demons) in the grand ballroom. We came here a few years ago with our kids for Easter and the hotel has consistently made it memorably and fun. The kids enjoyed the food, atmosphere and abundant April sunshine! Check-in was efficient and friendly as expected and since we were arrived a bit early, we had a snack on the terrace before getting our rooms.

We have eaten at the terrace several times just about this time (it’s a pattern – we always arrive just at check in and have to wait – it’s a BIG hotel) before and it is, always, slow service. 15 mins to get a menu, and 10 mins to get a drink, food once ordered is quick as they serve it immediately but otherwise it can be a wait. My husband got up and gave another table his menu as they seemed to be waiting for so long. It takes a while for the staff (and management) to realize that on a sunny afternoon, a lot of people will want to lunch on the terrace, especially as they are waiting to check in. Only when we were finished with our meal did the number of servers triple to a more reasonable amount given all the guests. That being said, a lovely warm spring sun also benefited the guests with a bit more patience. The Terrace could do so much better if they had efficient servers refreshing drinks and more attentive service. When we were served, they waiters were very nice and apologetic – it was just that we saw so little of them during our tea.

With that, all other service at the hotel was lovely and up to standard. The bell hops were quick and efficient on such a busy day – we even saw the manager of the hotel valet one of the guests’ cars for them as the others were all busy. Housekeeping was helpful and organized our messy toiletries and refreshed our ice – the front desk kindly sent us a bottle of bubbly when they realized we had been with them 10 years ago for our wedding. The spa was pool was relaxing although water was a bit colder than preferred. We had a good dinner at Vendome and greatly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The rooms were spacious with high ceilings and big windows, well appointed, with proper coat hangers and the mini bar was all inclusive. Windows opened onto the courtyard and you were able to hear the fountain and get some fresh air into the room – a rare treat in such hotels.

The hotel has its’ niggly areas (slow service on the Terrace has been a problem every time we have been there!) but overall, it is still an imposing grand dame of a hotel with good service and high standards – despite the Terrace meal, the rest of our stay was just lovely. Brought back a lot of memories for us walking through all the rooms we had our wedding weekend celebrations in. Go there for a nice holiday away from the city, and take the time to enjoy the views pf Cologne and the spectacular grounds. We will be back again, hopefully in months and not years as before.
