How to Get There
It's an old hotel, not kept very well, and for the most part seedy looking. Weekends are for weddings, and little league teams. Definitely not a business hotel from Friday to Sunday.
If you complain, the staff does their best to rectify. Management seems indifferent. It is the only real hotel in the Hauppauge area.
get a bell man to help with baggage. was extremely difficult getting from the car to the room. no ice in the room or floors. keys were constantly having to be changed to due not be able to open doors that was annoying
Loved the hotel, but as other reviews mentioned, both pools were unexpectedly closed. I even called the day we were arriving to check and was told they were both open. The front desk did give a discount and a meal credit, but we were very disappointed about the pools.
First off weird check in process. Not obvious that the check in desk was the check in desk. Looked like a messy office desk - papers everywhere. There was a customer service rep in the lobby, she passed me off to someone who was on the phone instead of helping me herself. (She helped the next person that came in.) He did not acknowledge me. When he was off the phone he did not welcome me, not in the least bit friendly. It took at least 20 min to check in. I asked if there was something wrong with my reservation, he said no. Well apparently there was, because our bill when we checked out was wrong. Even though I had my e-mails and access to my Hyatt app with the correct information I was treated like I was trying to rip them off. Even their response to my survey was to try and justify them not believing me instead of apologizing.
There were other strange things going on, both of our door keys didn't work one day. Based on the reviews that I've read after the fact that seems to be an on going issue, but they treated us like we were inconveniencing them. No apology, no follow up to see if we got in the room okay.
Weird tile repair in one of the elevators. Not a safety issue or anything, just maybe an example of how things are run. Missing brown tiles were replaced with white tiles, and badly at that.
One of the days none of the consumables (coffee, cups, shampoo etc) were replaced. Again, no apology.
There are a lot of nice hotels in the area. Pick another one.
My boyfriend and I came to Long Island and stayed at the Hyatt Regency for the weekend because friends of ours were getting married in Long Island. We had a wonderful stay and an incredibly positive experience overall.
