Lovely property, Amazing Staff.

Ulagalla was a delight from the moment of our arrival with their greeting ceremony (a framed photograph of which was presented to us on departure). We were accommodated in their 2 bedroom villa which had wonderful views over the paddy fields and the most lovely private infinity pool to view them from. Sadly during our stay my wife fell quite seriously ill and required treatment in the local Government Hospital. The hotel manager, Gitanjali could not have been more supportive, personally contacting one of the consultants so that he could discuss the situation with me. When it became clear that she would have to be admitted to hospital Gitanjali made one of her managers responsible for us and for the two days that she was in hospital (where the facilities were very basic but the medical care very good!) that manager. Sampath, together with our driver spent all of their time either with us in the hospital or shuttling between hospital and hotel ensuring that we had sheets, pillows, food and drink and everything that would make our stay more comfortable. The support that we received was nothing short of outstanding and turned what could have been an absolute nightmare into something that was tolerable and ultimately medically successful.
When my wife was discharged, the hotel, although fully booked was able to accommodate us for an extra night and I think that every staff member that we came across wanted to know how she was.
It is relatively easy for a well run hotel to achieve high customer ratings for their staff but to provide this level of assistance to guests in need is exceptional.
We will never forget the kindness that we received here .

Definition of relaxation

Being the flagship property of the UGA group Ulagalla spans their arms widespread to embrace you gracefully and offer nothing but 100% satisfaction for your choice on them. From that gorgeous smile of Madhu at the reception, great stories of Sumane uncle and to that daily greetings of their staff promises you that they are putting forward their best step to make you feel like home. They have their own traditions of welcoming you to the property. We'll keep that rituals to ourselves cos we really don't want to spoil that experience for you.

This 57 acre property has its own specialty of villas. We stayed in their deluxe villa which was their finest and there was absolutely nothing to complain. It's a spacious area of 2100 sqft which has a lobby, living area with a widescreen tv and selection of movies and satellite television, powder room, master bedroom and the bathroom with fancy bathroom fittings, a plunge pool with a large deck outside!!! Great ambiance and such a finest touch of architecture which will give you a royal treatment. We were astonished by its luxury!!! The plunge pool opens into the wild and unexpected wildlife experiences such as peacock dances awaits there whenever you take a swim there.

Let's start bragging about their extremely long main pool and bar. Well you have to use either a mountain bike ride or a buggy ride to get back to the main pool area as it's located with the main walawwa. It's an ideal poolside for relaxation as well as to show off your swimming skills. The main bar offers you a great variety but if you are a local specifically ask for the srilankan price menu or else you'll get confused with their dollar-priced one. And adjacent spa and gym is also an added feature when you take a dive in the main pool unfortunately we didn't try it out to give you guys more details.

Now the meals!!! They offer meals as per set menus and you can easily arrange in-room dining as well. Since their meals are extremely tasty we highly recommend to try at least one meal in your room so you can forget all the table etiquettes and enjoy the meal sharing with each other. During our recent visit to their other property; jungle beach the main chef set the barrier quite high for the quality and the taste of the food and here in ulagalla even though they offer highly standard meals we are sorry to say they couldn't break that limit set by their own sibling-property jungle beach.( take it from us jungle beach offers the best meals)

Hospitality and the staff; their signature therapy is the best you can ask for!!! Everyone never bother to great you with a divine smile. They are courteous, extremely happy to serve you and try their best to satisfy you to the fullest during your stay and make sure that you'll leave the property with thousands of memories for a lifetime.

A special mention should go to Miss Thimasha from jungle beach for her recommendations and arranging this whole stay and Mr. Vino, the frontdesk manager and Ms Gitanjali the GM for their effort to make our stay worthwhile along with their whole staff.

Overall we are contented about our stay and will not be hesitant ever to pay a second visit!!

Fabulous Eco friendly resort with Superb cuisine
Reviewed 2 days ago

Ulagalla is a fantastic boutique property run in a very Eco friendly way. It is positioned in a natural jungle with rice fields on either side of the property. The chalets are very spacious, private positioned in the jungle surrounded by nature. A real treat to wake up to an amazing variety of birds singing their hearts out.
A very special memory was or private cooking course with the Executive chef Jerome. The lunch started with a tour around their extremely extensive organic fruit, herb and vegetable garden followed by a hands on cooking with the chef 6 different Sri Lankan curries! The end result with a huge contribution from the chef was amazing! This is a must to do experience. We are now going to test are skills on out family this Easter! During the afternoon we rode on the chalet supplied bicycles around the resort to burn off some of the fabulous lunch.
Ulagalla is a must stay boutique hotel!

Old world charm.

From the minute they ring the arrival bell and do the welcome ceremony you know you have found a gem. The huge acreage and the large villas are true Sri Lanka experience. It is definitely old world charm with the 5 star trappings. Highly recommend. Each villa has a plunge pool and there is also a main swimming pool.

The most beautiful place I've ever stayed!
Reviewed 6 days ago

I can't say enough about how beautiful this resort is. The grounds are HUGE and completely serene and stunning. I loved the combination of traditional Sri Lankan decor and colonial architecture! The rooms/villas were an actual dream, will giant glass walls looking into the forest, a private plunge pool (that sometimes peacocks would come visit!), private bikes to ride around the property, and a stunning work desk and separate living space. I wanted to move in!

The food was incredible and service was outstanding. I did a tour of the on-site organic garden which was great — if you have time to organize a cooking class here I'd definitely recommend it! I also did a kayak tour on the lake nearby with all the lilies and lotuses and that was a dream. Don't miss that!

If I could move into this place, I would. Loved it so much. Highly recommend it!!
