How to Get There
What a beautiful place to stay, luxury and fantastic quietness. After some hectic travelling around it was lovely to get the Ulagalla and the beautiful cabins there. to have one's own plunge pool and deck was fantastic. It made you feel one with nature as bird, squirrels and monkeys played around it. Would definitely come back.
Great food and service as well to make all round a great stay
We just left our chalet at Ulagalla this morning and checked into nearby Jetwing Vil Uyana, which I believe we paid more money for, and appreciate what we had at Ulagalla even more!
We didn’t want to leave the posh paradise that is Ulagalla since it was so relaxing with lots to do and amazing food and service. We just left Anantara Kihavah in the Maldives, which is pretty hard to beat but Ulagalla offered us a very different yet amazing experience.
There’s something for everyone (horseback riding, spa, fitness center, pool, biking around the lush 58 acre property; kayaking and more) and the food menu is the same with amazing Sri Lanka dishes as well as western dishes for the not so adventurous palate (they’re missing out!) There is an abundance of wildlife as well as amazingly beautiful flora and fauna. You’ll find pretty peacocks throughout the property as well as lots of water fowls in the rice paddy fields. You can also find mammals like adorable monkeys, squirrels, cows and more. Paths are cut wide and well maintained so you have ample space to walk/ride a bicycle. The main pool is glorious and well-maintained but you also have your own private pool with loungers in your yard! The restaurant area has a gorgeous view and I could just sit there watching and listening to the wild life while eating the sumptuous food.
The spacious chalets are so well appointed and you get a view from every room including the bathroom and the shower, which gives you an indoor/outdoor feel without compromising on cleanliness, A/C or other comforts that are sacrificed with true indoor/outdoor. Plus, you have a huge deck, yard and pool area so you really can enjoy outdoor living at your own chalet. The property is so large that you feel like you’re the only ones there. I miss Ulagalla and will definitely be back!
We booked a ten night stay for our honeymoon, 17th to 27th June, as looking for something special and it was so much more. Absolute perfection, cannot fault anything in any way. Dilrukshi greeted us and took us through the welcoming bell ringing ceremony which was a lovely extra touch. She escorted us to our villa, showed us round and we were left to settle in. The villa was gorgeous and such comfy bed, slept so well. Everything there you could need. The view from our deck was glorious and if you love wildlife you will not be disappointed, we saw peacocks, giant squirrels, so many birds and hawks, jungle fowl, lizards, monkeys etc. The young man who looked after our villa, Ari, was amazing, he spoilt us rotten, the service from all the staff is amazing and everyone greets you, the gardeners, maintenance staff, waiters, front of house, everyone, so friendly.
The food is gorgeous although I fell in love with the string hoppers so had those half the time we were there. The chef came out to see us to let us know if there was anything we'd like that wasn't on the menu then just let him know and he would make it for us which he did the night we asked for Sri Lankan fish cakes. They were wonderful too! Great value for money too. The waiters are very friendly, they really take good care of you, very responsive we found.
The grounds are stunning and so well maintained, the gardeners work so hard, our pool was cleaned everyday, no chemicals which is wonderful, many times birds come to drink from it. Very eco-friendly which is one of main attractions to us, to live alongside the local wildlife all added to the experience.
Dilrukshi booked all our excursions, you get a lovely picnic lunch to take with you and your own private driver and guide who are all so knowledgeable, they go out of their way to give you a wonderful day. They even drove us to a couple of shops when emergency flip flops were needed after my husband's sandals broke! Another time our driver went and bought rambutans for us when we weren't sure if we'd had them, they were waiting in the car when we got back from the temple we visited. As I said previously the staff go that extra mile for you. We did the safari, would highly recommend, and saw over 80 elephants which was top of our bucket list.
Dilrukshi is worth her weight in gold, she is so friendly, she taught us some Sri Lankan, organized everything we needed and is just an all round lovely person, we can't thank her enough for making our stay so memorable. Her personal service is second to none.
Sri Lanka is beautiful and Ulagalla is a little slice of paradise and we honestly cannot recommend it highly enough. We've both travelled to many different locations from America, the Maldives, Egypt, Norway and most of Europe but this was the best, it's an absolute gem of a place and we can't wait to go back.
Mr &Mrs Jasbir Sahota.
Lovely, memorable stay with the family at Nikaweva Villa end of May. Staff was very welcoming and special thanks to Ms Dilrukshi at the Front Office who went our of her way to make arrangements for a birthday surprise for our mother, complete with a personalised birthday card, a souvenir and dinner brought to our villa. Would not hesitate to recommend a stay for a special occasion. Quiet/secluded location, great for bird watching, esp peacocks and peahens. One of the best places we have stayed in Sri Lanka, highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful break!
We stayed for 3 nights in the Nikawewa villa on a family holiday.
We enjoyed authentic Sri Lankan food, architecture (the main building used to be a stately home) and most of all, Sri Lankan hospitality.
From the front office staff to the gardeners, we were made to feel at home. It was a very personal experience and we were treated with such attention to detail that we felt like we were the only guests with our every whim catered to.
Overall a great experience. Thank you.
