How to Get There
Yes, there are plenty of branded hotels in the Greensboro area, but this is THE place to stay for us in High Point. We discovered this gem while on the college search with my daughter. Fast forward two years, she is half way through her freshman year and I look forward to every visit. All of the staff from front desk to bartender to housekeepers to the nice lady who makes the breakfast are so pleasant and accommodating. I've stayed in various rooms and I like the "gallery" building. I'd rather have a quieter room overlooking the back alleyways than one on the main street but your preference may vary. Just tell them what you're looking for in terms of location and room particulars and they'll try to work with you. (That said, I'm happy to see there's finally some rehabilitation of that neighboring fire-damaged property going on!) The rooms are not "cookie cutter" but they are all very spacious with distinctive furniture, ample closet and drawer space, comfy beds and large well appointed bathrooms. The cozy bar (yes, you get a free "adult" beverege every night!) is fun to hang out in, watch a game on TV and chat up the other HPU parents. The restaurant menu is small but everything is good quality - I'm a big fan of the fried oysters, the tuna poke and the crab cake. A downside is that although the bar opens at 4 pm the food service doesn't start until 5:30 - it would be nice to have a bar menu with snacks like the potsticker/spring roll combo plate and maybe add other happy hour items like tacos or wings? to tide you over if you have a later reservation elsewhere or a University event to attend and want a little something that's more substantial than the chips and candy for sale in the lobby.
Breakfast is included; again, everything is fresh and good quality but limited selection with the same hot offerings every day (scrambled eggs, bacon/sausage, fried potatoes)...maybe mix it up a little with pancakes or waffles or quiche?
The only other suggestion I would make is to have available rubber mats for the tubs and/or runners for the bathroom floors, because the (spotlessly clean) surfaces can be slippery and some of the tub sides are deep and can be a bit of a challenge to get into and out of for those whose balance or mobility isn't quite what it used to be. I've also noticed that in the room I've had the last two visits (#36), there aren't drapes or blackout shades and the sun/car/street lights do come through the wooden louvers on the windows. It doesn't bother me but might be worth asking about.
But these are minor "wish list" issues for me personally and I look forward to my upcoming stay next month!
Very convenient and comfortable hotel if you are visiting High Point for any reason. Staff extremely hospitable and accommodating. Small quiet inn type hotel right on Main Street in the middle of everything.
This past weekend we visited High Point University for the third time with our daughter who will be attending there this fall. We have always stayed at Marriott's or other locations in the area. This time we wanted something more local, more unique and we found it. This hotel is charming, historic, and unique. 30+ different rooms in a boutique type setting. Beautiful exterior and interior. Nice main entrance, bar, restaurant and rooms.
We stayed in Room 19, great corner location overlooking the patio and had a huge bathroom with a large window. Generous sized tub/shower, two sinks and a prep desk in the bathroom. Fridge in the room, plenty of hangers, and comfy bed.
Staff was incredibly friendly and fun. Front desk was excellent, Brad in the bar was outstanding, and Stacey in the quaint and beautiful restaurant was great. They give you a beer or glass of wine for each night of your stay in the bar. Very nice. The food was excellent.
Location is great. On main street and close to other points of interest and High Point University. We will definitely stay again on our next visit.
We always stay here for the HPU events. Have only stayed in the annex building, which I prefer because the bathroom are very large and it is my favorite part of staying there. Only had breakfast once and didn't care for it...a very basic continental, but that was before the
Christina Grey restaurant was in place so perhaps it is better now. Complimentary glass of wine or beer is a nice touch, wish there were a couple more better options for beer besides bud, coors, miller-given the price of the room, highlight an NC brewery would be a nice touch. Staff is always very nice and accommodating, the location and quality for price is the best for school events.
Always an enjoyable stay. Friendly staff who are always willing to assist. Clean, comfortable room. We love the Kinkaid Suite. Breakfast is simple and the staff is wonderful, very accomodating. Love that everyone supports HPU with the gear!
