How to Get There
I’m so glad someone is saving this beautiful piece of our history!!! We came up to get away from Hurricane Flo. The hotel is charming. Our room was much bigger than we expected, with lots of little unexpected extra touches and services such as afternoon tea, complimentary coffee in the lobby, an evening turn-down service. Made-to-order breakfast was included in the price of our room. Although the hotel restaurant had temporarily lost their refrigerator, the kitchen still managed to create a delicious breakfast for us and assured us they would buy locally everything needed to offer their usual full dinner menu.
We enjoyed the live music in the lobby every evening. They also provided a movie festival each night. Power went out during the storm but the staff very quickly brought out lanterns for the guests.
One of the downsides to an older hotel is that the bathroom is quite small and we consistently had problems with the water temperature. The water in the shower would suddenly became scolding hot, then too cold. It was hard to maintain a comfortable temp. At one point, when I had just lathered up my hair, we lost all the cold water in shower. It hot water temperature was set too high to be able to stand in it so I had to wait about ten minutes before the cold water came back at least enough to finish my shower. And we repeatedly lost all cold water in the sink.
Also if it matters to you, there is no microwave or mini-fridge in the room. But there was a Kuerig.
But other than those minor glitches, I really enjoyed the unique beauty and history of the hotel. I look forward to coming back in better weather.
We stayed at this amazing Inn for the Grandfather Mountain Highland games. Upon arrival the exterior of the building was so quaint, inviting and you knew the history was just going to be so much fun to explore! Then you walk in the door. We arrived just in time for afternoon tea. Several other patrons were sitting in the lavishly appointed lobby or sitting on the large porch enjoying an afternoon snack.
Our check in was super fast but so friendly. Lots of tips and local information was made available to us. Now to our suite!!!! I cannot adequately describe how lovely and comfortable our room was!!! Roomy, well decorated and such beautiful floors, hard wood, and area rugs. I knew I was never going to want to leave!!
The amenities were outstanding! Our room had a very nice iron, ironing board, a good brand of hair dryer, and luxurious soaps, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, and even tooth paste. And a very luxurious robe was available to wrap you in even more happy comfort!
The coffee pot made good hot coffee and all your sugar creamer and even tea were plentiful. In order to go as green as possible, fresh water was in a lovely carafe, with real glasses and coffee cups. Not paper or plastic.
Each night we had a treat and our beds were turned down.
And included in our package was breakfast Each morning. And I am not talking a spread of store bought muffins and fruit. Oh my no!!! This was a sit down made to order menu of items to choose from and during my stay I sampled several of the choices. Not a bum in the lot.
Now let me tell you about the staff: family. You are treated like family. Called by name each time you see someone. Asked about your comfort or any needs.
I could go on and on. So much more to tell, but if I haven’t convinced you to stay here by now... well, I urge you to reconsider!!! You will be so glad you did!!
We will definitely stay here again and again!!!
Can’t wait to see these wonderful people again!!
We stayed at the Inn for a Murder Mystery weekend getaway. It was great! The first thing I will say about the Inn is, if your looking for a completely remodeled modern hotel this is not the place. What you will get is a lovely historic Inn with creaky original type hardwoods, original looking furnishings, original design including an original fireplace from 126yrs. ago. Which I'm told was recently uncovered and is being refurbished. There was a older gentleman who played the baby grand piano each night which just added to the nostalgia of the place. There is a bar/ lounge that looks exactly like what I would have expected in this setting. The food was very good and well priced, not overpriced at all. Sitting outside on the veranda at night with a night cap in hand enjoying the company of the other guests was so nice. Now again be mindful that this is a historic Inn so though there are some modern conveniences they are limited. There is an elevator, old but it works all the same. There is no central heat and air but this is provided by small window units and radiators. Our window unit worked quite well and smelled clean not musty. The bathrooms have been updated which was very nice. The room itself and bed were very comfortable and clean. I loved the place because I can really get a feel for what it must have been like to stay here over 100 years ago. I think it would be great if the staff were to all wear period clothing. This would add to the appeal of it being a historic Inn.
Even with a slew of clues we were mostly clueless on “who done it” but had a fantastic time at the Green Park Inn! The hotel and staff were wonderful hosts for a fun weekend!! Our room was very clean and very comfortable. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious! We loved sipping wine and chatting with other guests - trying to figure out the mystery - in the rocking chairs on the front porch!
Green Park Inn is truly a beautiful historic property. The front veranda is lined with rocking chairs, and on Sunday evening they had live music. The library doors opened out to the veranda so we sat in comfortable chairs and enjoyed the music. Friday and Saturday evenings they have a gentleman playing piano in the foyer. The rooms are comfortable, and ours had a balcony facing out across the beautiful golf course with two comfy rockers. The restaurant and tavern are absolutely top notch, so do yourself a favor and enjoy a meal there.
