Some cool features and some disappointments

It is obvious the owners are slowly renovating the hotel and also trying to keep some of its character. The third floor hallway wallpaper, white wainscot and carpet choices were fine as was the library decor. But the dining room is neither modern or reproductive of its era except for the light fixtures. Dark red walls should be white or cream then the red chairs would stand out and it wouldn’t be such a cave. Table dividers ugly and unnecessary. I could go on. That said, our room was not at all renovated and the mattress was broken down on the right side. My husband slept in the car he was so uncomfortable. Room has an air conditioner but if you close the heavy drapes to keep out the light and highway noise, the cold air is trapped and room is stuffy. Got a midweek deal that included breakfast to order which was pretty good. Music on the veranda was fun. Place is just ok, not a stunning old inn which is what I expected.

Historical Gem

I last minute booked a room online as we were driving home from a Florida vacation and needed a place to crash for the night. Honestly, I looked up haunted historical places to stay and this popped up somewhere (I am actually a ghost hunter on a paranormal team so I love history like that). The story is not too crazy but the history of the building really got my attention. We had to check in late at night but were still greeted kindly. I did not have a lot of interaction with other employees and we checked out early to finish the drive home, but I knew I needed to plan another vacation so I could stay in this hotel. It was so comfortable, charming, and genuine. They are doing an excellent job keeping the place true to its original glory while also providing the modern conveniences people need. The room was spotless, beds were comfortable, bathroom was huge, I really felt at home here. If you love old buildings and learning about their history you will definitely love this place. I still cannot believe how amazing this place was for such a good price!

Husband and Wife weekend away

My husband and I have been to the hotel for quiet time on many occasions and have enjoyed every visit. We are planning another visit in Aug 2019. From arrival, we have always felt at home at this hotel. The Divide Tavern has food and drinks we still talk about today! We were heartbroken when it closed down for a period of time but once again we are looking forward to going back to our favorite little get away place. Please understand this is a historic hotel that is almost 130 years old so if you are looking for something modern, this is not the place for you. However, if you enjoy arcitecture, history and the beauty of old southern charm this will soon become your favorite place to visit too!

A Step Back in Time

We spent one night with our 2 dogs over Memorial Day weekend. This was the only dog friendly lodging we could find. The owners are working hard to maintain and improve this historic property. You may need to adjust your expectations, if you are looking for perfection. The room itself was clean and the bathroom was modern and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. The balcony could have used a coat of paint, but we were more than grateful to sit outside and unwind. We had a delicious complimentary breakfast on the beautiful outdoor garden terrace.

We did not listen to the piano player on Friday evening, although there was quite a crowd. Again, we were grateful to find a dog friendly property over a holiday weekend. You can definitely feel the ambience of the historic hotel.

Weekend Getaway

We loved this hotel, especially the welcoming piano player. The rooms were clean and had a lovely Victorian style. I will note though, the third floor was a bit... well, I'll just come out and say it... haunted. We had to switch rooms to a lower level in the newer area. Once there, all was fine. The staff was very helpful in helping us switch rooms. We will definitely stay again.... on the lower floor. It's a beautiful hotel.
