How to Get There
The two best things about this hotel are the location and the staff. It’s just off the highway, and yet minutes to downtown Asheville (you can easily walk there). Most of the staff members are incredibly polite and friendly, which is always a breath of fresh air. Even the facilities manager displayed top-notch customer service.
The room itself was clean and cute, with a spacious bathroom and shower. My only complaints here were the noise from the highway (which can only be remedied with airport level glass windows, so bring your earplugs if you’re a light sleeper), and the bed. That whole setup was pretty terrible... every time one of us turned over, the whole bed shook, and the mattress itself wasn’t great.
ICYMI on the booking sites, your parking options are limited, so be prepared to pay $18/day for valet with in/out privileges if you want to keep your car at the hotel. I didn’t research this with other places, but I imagine it’s fairly common for downtown hotels because parking in general is pretty limited.
As another FYI, they don’t let you check in until 4pm, which is at least an hour later than most hotels, so we figured checkout would be around noon. Wrong. It’s 11am. We were checking out in the middle of the week and the place wasn’t exactly packed, but we were still told the only way we could get a later checkout time is if we were rewards members. I’ve rarely had an issue getting an extra hour, especially at a smaller property that wasn’t booked solid, so this experience was rather off-putting.
The location was awesome with its close proximity to Asheville downtown, Biltmore and my business meeting destination making the commute a total breeze.
The staff was extremely courteous, be it the Valet or the front desk personnel. Mark at the front desk is doing an awesome job and was an absolute gentleman and a thorough professional from the moment I set the foot in the door after reaching the hotel late to the time we checked out with the checkout process and billing. The bistro host was sweet and other staff members were helpful as well. I love dogs and this property is dog-friendly which made the stay even better with the furry friends in the hallways and on the property, in general.
The hotel initiative to be green conscious by providing refillable glass jars instead of plastic filtered water is an initiative much appreciated.
We loved staying here. When we checked in the great desk staff upgraded us to a 12th floor penthouse suite. Picture windows in 2 directions, nice bedroom and closet alcove area plus small kitchen and balcony. Even though hotel is right next to major highway, the height of the room plus the insulated windows prevented too much noise. Although the bedroom windows did not open, the suite had central air conditioning rather than those awful, horrible under the window noisy kind that keep you awake at night. The breakfasts were far better than usual motel type and the breakfast staff was great.
One major thing prevents this hotel from being a 5 start and has nothing to do with the hotel itself. It was the recovery of lost items procedure which is absolutely idiotic. We left our laptop charging cord and multiple phone charger in the socket of the closet alcove when we left. I called the hotel when I realized it and was sent to a housekeeping voice mail which told me to go online to report it. That itself makes no sense since I was already calling the hotel. I went online and had to fill out some long form reporting the loss and submit it. Then I received an email telling me the hotel had been notified (gee thanks! But I could have done that on my first call!). Then to short-circuit this moronic stuff I called the hotel front desk and told them where to find the lost items. They said they would check. Then I received an email from this same "lost and found" online "service" telling me the items had been found and asking me for credit card info to have it returned to me for, catch this, $28+! Note that these are small items and not that heavy. I paid the $%^&* price and about 7-10 days later did receive the lost items. But think about this: I could have just spoken to a live person at housekeeping or front desk on my first call, they could have found it and put the items into a pre-paid $8. postal box and sent it to me without all the crap and in a shorter period of time! I called the front desk to complain and was told that it was a new policy instituted by some assistant manager (someone who was probably under the age of 30 who thinks anything digital has to be superior to anything efficient and simple). We also stayed at another hotel in this group's chain ( a much cheaper one) a few days later and asked the front desk what they did with lost items? She said if you called up and they found them they'd simply put them in the mail and charge it to the credit card you used to book the room. Simple. Perfect. Why this supposedly up-scale hotel in the same group can't do the same is beyond me. So yes, this is a great hotel and you should stay here, especially in a penthouse suite. But whatever you do DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND or you will be subject to the same ridiculous procedures!
Convenient location for downtown Asheville activities. Modern & colorful decor. Comfortable & stylish rooms. Pleasant atmosphere. Lobby is spacious. Our room was looking out over mountains & quiet. Bathroom is big & great shower.
Day two of trip to Ocracoke Island on the Outter Banks of North Carolina. The Downtown Hotel Indigo provided the perfect location. Our room was comfortable, spacious, and offered a gorgeous view of the mountains. All the hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. The valet service was very efficient. This is a very professionally managed hotel. Parking can be a hassle in the very busy downtown area. But a stay at this hotel meant we were able to walk to Bouchon, our favorite Asheville restaurant. Also had easy walking access to numerous shops and some of the outside street activities in the area. We WILL stay here on future trips to Ocracoke Island, NC
