How to Get There
My husband and I just spent 3 nights at Maria Condesa. The hotel is charming and the staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The rooms are a little small (we had a standard room with King bed) but totally adequate, the hotel is adorned with cool art and the rooftop terrace (where breakfast is served) is a very nice place to start every day (with amazingly friendly staff as well). The location is perfect for exploring La Condesa and beyond- it's on a pretty street close to numerous bars and restaurants. The bed was super comfy but my only real complaint is about the pillows- the hotel would be well served by investing in some down/feather pillows. Ours were not comfortable and we woke up with stiff necks. Will definitely stay here again despite that though and next time we'll splurge for a room with a sauna in it- Mexico City is cold, even in August!
It was recommended as nice place in a convenient location. Convenient - yes, nice - not so much. The place is old and smelly. They try to mask it with Glade plug-ins and which will surely give you headaches. I would unplug them only to find them plugged in again after the maid cleaned the room. Bathroom amenities were seldom replaced, but I really did ot care at all for heavily scented soaps and shampoo. The bathroom windows are painted white for privacy. Curtains would have been preferable. The closet hangers were the kind typically found in cheap motels, not boutique hotels at US $200+ a night. But the AstroTurf in the 'rooftop restaurant and bar' takes the cake. This is the place where they serve limited free breakfast. Their approach is very clever: 'free' includes coffee, a small plate of fruit and a small plate of egg based dish. Anything extra comes at extra cost. But I will give it to the management - great way to control breakfast costs. I also had lunch a couple of times at their restaurant on the ground floor. The chef seriously needs to reconsider the menu. It sounds good, but tastes gross. On the bright side, the employees are vey friendly. I am going back to MXC next month, but will stay at some other place.
Adán and Jesica were wonderful servers at breakfast daily, as well as the gentleman who served me dinner at the lobby restaurant (he even requested the chef to prepare me a bowl of soup that was not in the menu). Breakfast selection was very limited, though, for those of us who stay more than 4 nts. Room is very spacious; bathroom is exceptionally large with essential amenities. I am not quite sure if the airconditioning unit was working optimally or not--it felt like the temparature could not really be adjusted. One serious concern I had was hygiene related. I reported to management that I found a large damp cleaning rag/cloth on my toiletries case (and right on top of my toothbrush) in the bathroom. I don't want to imagine how Maria Condesa's housekeeping staff observes hotel and hospitality industry standards--for instance, washing cups and glasses, or changing bed linen. That incident was a huge disappointment for me, and raises questions about whether or not I would consider returning. Hotel is located in a very nice quiet, tree-lined neighborhood accessible by Metrobús from Campeche station.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this hotel! First, the staff is excellent! I had been emailing with customer service in advance about my transportation and other needs and they were so helpful. At the airport, we had a driver waiting for us with a sign showing our name and the hotel's symbol on it. No stress at all.
We were greeted in the lobby with sparkling wine and the check-in was very easy.
But, the rooms. OH, the rooms! They were so, so beautiful, sunny and inviting! If I didn't have Mexico City waiting for me outside I would have easily enjoyed my room all afternoon! The furnishings were lovely, the room well-decorated, and the bed was SO comfortable. Lots of natural light coming through my giant window. Plus, I love a great hotel bathroom, and this place had it all, from the little details in the bathroom decor to the toiletries which were the tops! We had different room types, and the larger of the rooms had a step down into the room which had a soft, automatic light under the step that was motion-detectable. It was very helpful when getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.
The area is great for walking around and exploring. There are so many great restaurants and ice cream shops, it was a shame we only had the one afternoon/evening to enjoy it. And when I got back to the room, I saw that they turned down the bed and left little chocolates for me!
We enjoyed a made-to order breakfast on the rooftop in yet another beautiful room, which added to the overall good-feel of our stay. The hotel kept our luggage safe the next morning/afternoon after we checked out since we were going on a tour for a few hours. (I HIGHLY recommend steppingmexico.com). And the hotel was able to arrange transportation for us to the next area of Mexico we were traveling to for work.
I missed this hotel as soon as we left it, and I can't wait to get back there!
We just got back from our vacation in Mexico City and we couldn’t have been happier with our stay at Maria Condesa! The staff was super friendly, helpful, and accommodating to all of our needs. Our room was great, it very clean, smelled fresh, modern furniture, comfortable bed and hot water! Loved our complimentary breakfast and cocktails daily. The staff also helped us find an awesome tour guide for the Teotihuacán Pyramids, very highly recommend! We will definitely stay here again in the future, awesome vacation!
