As mountain bases go, this lodge outside of Banff fits the bill, bringing a contemporary cabin style to spacious one-, two- and three-bedroom suites. Everything you need for comfortable living is here: gas fireplaces, fully equipped kitchens, 42-inch flatscreen TVs and private decks with gas BBQs. After a day hiking the stunning Canadian Rockies or shredding powder in the world-famous Lake Louise ski area, enjoy a dip in the heated outdoor pool and steamy hot tubs.
In the Area
This stretch of the Canadian Rockies is known for superior powder, and three top-notch resorts are located within Banff National Park: Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village. Between the three resorts there’s almost 8,000 acres of skiable terrain and mountain peaks that are so epic the United Nations has declared the area a World Heritage site. Best of all, this northern latitude rocks one of the longest ski seasons in North America, from mid-November until late May. Come summer, the resort puts you within striking distance of a handful of great golf courses, including Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club, Silvertip Golf Resort, Canmore Golf and Curling Club and Banff Springs Golf Club.
How to Get There
It's just too expensive for what you get. Rooms are beautiful and kitchen appointments nice. But we paid $550 a night and we had a view of the parking lot. The cafe on the ground floor has poor hours for a holiday weekend (coffee should be open and served by 6am), and a poor selection with a long line and slow service. When we were there we were going to use the pool but just as we're getting in a Mom watching from a balcony told us a kid had just barfed in the pool and the staff had been notified. We looked and sure enough, there were vomit chunks floating in the pool and on the side of the pool. The Mom told us the staff had been notified, but they had not closed the pool. We used the hot tub which was barf free. We were there a long time and no one came to clean it up. Front desk came down and looked at it. I told them they should put a sign up and he said he couldn't find one in the maintenance closet to warn the patrons that it was closed. I said "well write one on a piece of copier paper and tape it up!" I told the guy trust me, you won't want your customers getting sick, writing awful reviews, etc. Anyway, no sign went up and since we stayed in the hot tub for awhile, we warned people as they came down to not go in the pool, and those people were very appreciative. But I couldn't believe the poor management of the staff to not address this immediately. I mean come on! There were vomit chunks floating in the pool - you put up a sign warning people geez! He assured me that their maintenance would clean it up with the net, and the filtering system would take care of the rest of it. I don't know about most people, but we wouldn't use a pool again after seeing vomit chunks floating in the pool unless it is drained and properly cleaned out! Listen, I'm not naive, I know that pools are gross and the general population almost always swims in nasty pool water. But if you witness something disgusting like that, don't tell me you're going to clean it with a net and the filtering system will take care of it because I'm not buying it! Additionally, the front desk woman (only one of them) was very rude when my husband asked for another room key because when he tried to use it to open the garage, it was faulty and didn't work. He went to the desk asking for another key and she replied "Oh, your wife just requested a key, so now you have 4" I don't care if we requested 20 keys, just give us one - especially if it's not working! Poor management
A little pricey to stay here, but the rooms are excellent and two levels of underground parking.
Nice cafe on the 1st floor has decent coffee and food.
Good location to allow a quiet place to stay (for a hotel) rooms are well appointed and the kitchen has all you should need for feeding a family.
I was originally a little worried about staying outside of Banff, since we couldn't get a hotel there, but Stoneridge Mountain was just amazing. It was actually better than any place you could find inside Bannf - the hotel was magnificent, the rooms massive, the views spectacular, the price was reasonable and the staff was te absolute best!
Beautiful, extra luxuries, large bathrooms & comfy beds. Lovely views, awesome heated pool & hot tub. Loved our stay at SMR and close to everything for our daily adventures. Canmore is lovely and less crowded than Banff.
Check in was easy, staff were friendly, the hotel was warm. The rooms were huge!!! We had the king executive suite. It had full kitchen, 2 bathrooms and 2 bedrooms, washer and dryer. The bathrooms were huge and the main bed was super comfy.
I’m very picky with hotels but will 100% stay here again. The location is great with a few minutes drive into the beautiful town of Canmore. Two large supermarkets just down the road. It was nice to be able to have a home cooked meal after holidaying for a while. Thanks so much we will be back.
