This newly built hotel’s 143 guestrooms and suites are the city’s best, packing plenty of style into a residential package with warm wood accents, plenty of natural light and spa-like marble bathrooms with peekaboo glass showers. It’s easy to be green here, so much so that guests won’t even know they’re using low-flow toilets, energy-efficient lights and geothermic-heated radiant floors. The sybaritic Santé Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness center are perched atop the hotel for panoramic views, while on the ground level Charcut Roast House pays homage to the town’s cowboy roots grilling up steaks and game in a custom rotisserie and charbroiler.
In the Area
This stretch of the Canadian Rockies outside of Calgary is known for superior powder, and three top-notch resorts are located within Banff National Park: Mt. Norquay, Lake Louise Ski Area and Sunshine Village. Between the three resorts there’s more than 8,000 acres of skiable terrain and mountain peaks that are so epic the United Nations has declared the area a World Heritage site. Best of all, this northern latitude rocks one of the longest ski seasons in North America, from mid-November until late May. If you’re sticking around town, check out the 360-degree views from the top of the 626-foot Calgary Tower. While you’re up there, have a bite at the tower-top restaurant SKY 360 — it does a full rotation every hour.
How to Get There
Room, location, staff and amenities are all top notch. Le Germain is a high quality hotel with consistently high standards that they meet for their guests. There is nothing about this hotel that I would change. The accomodations are luxurious, comfortable, quiet and consistent.
I want to start this review by pointing out that the customer service here is great! Any issue I brought to their attention was addressed quickly and professionally.
I came across this hotel while searching for a spa getaway on TripAdvisor, my boyfriend and I were looking for a relaxing weekend away. I will be the first to admit that picking a hotel in downtown Calgary wasn't the best choice, but the reviews were good and made it seemed like you could barely hear the sound of traffic.
When we first checked in the associate told us they were out of the robes that came with our package, so they would have to mail them to us when they get stocked up. It's not the end of the world but it was the start of many small disappointments. Our room faced the corner of Center St and 9th Ave and only on the 6th floor so we heard everything. Also being so low the view was impeded by the Calgary Tower. I think the room is what set the tone for the remainder of the weekend. My boyfriend had worked all day then drove for three hours so he was exhausted and fell right asleep. This confirms how comfortable the beds are. While checking my credit card statement I saw I had been charged $200 more than I expected. I used their convenient texting service to ask the front desk why and was told it was an "Incidentals Deposit". Since I have only had to pay a deposit when paying by debit I went down to discuss it. The clerk was very helpful and professional. He confirmed that there was no mention of it on the website or in the confirmation email and that it is standard practice, even if I had never heard of it. He asked if there was anything he could do and I said no since it would be refunded when we checked out. When checkout time did come around they tried to charge me for the valet parking, which was included in the package. So they had to refund that as well.
In the morning my boyfriend and I went for the continental breakfast. It was lackluster and my coffee was weak, however Mike poured his right after and thought it was fine. After doing some tourist things we returned to the room. Since we were in there we turned on the Do Not Disturb light. I thought it was nice they put a letter under the door stating they would not be coming into the room because of the light. However I thought the second one was wasteful. Mid afternoon we went up for our massage. It was nothing spectacular. Mike was still sore the next day but I think that's normal for a deep tissue massage.
What bothered me the most was the cleanliness of the hotel considering what we were paying per night. There was some sort of splatter on the washroom wall when we arrived. While waiting for the elevator, you couldn't help but notice how dirty the wall was. Even the room where breakfast was served was in need of a major deep clean and the tables were looking fairly scuffed up.
All in all I will not be staying here again due to the value not being there.
Recently stayed at Le Germain for a couples weekend. It is in a great location in downtown Calgary close to many attractions and good restaurants. The hotel was clean and modern, the staff were friendly and attentive. The included breakfast was more than adequate. A great choice for downtown Calgary.
Absolutely loved our two night stay at this fabulous hotel after a touring holiday of the Canadian Rockies. We just couldn’t fault the service. We turned up before check in time in our rental car, which was filthy dirty after driving in it for 2.5 weeks. The valet offered to clean it for us which was a lovely gesture. We then checked in to be told we had a room upgrade to a fabulous corner suite. Loved the bath which filled up from overhead. Everything was very chic and modern and a very comfy bed too. Very nice free breakfast included in room rate. Our biggest compliment goes to Ben on the concierge desk. He went above and beyond to book us in to two fabulous restaurants, one of which usually has a very long waiting list. He also recommended some great attractions to visit, like the incredible library and the music museum. He also google earthed points of interest so we knew what we were looking for as well as walking us personally down the road to point us in the right direction. We have never experienced service like this on our travels. We are looking forward to visiting Canada again and staying at other hotels in this group.
Great clean rooms. Cool vibe with the Raptors in town- staff was very helpful in telling me about the disruption and noise to expect with the Raptors in town. Good breakfast which adds to the value. Such a convenient location! Enjoyed the fitness facility too.
