The Look
On a residential street in Gramercy, Hotel Marcel is a playful, conveniently-located crash pad with 136 rooms. The lobby is all 70s whimsy with a massive circular black patent leather couch, shag carpets and a two-sided gas fireplace.
Bed & Bath
Standard rooms are seriously teeny but come with beds dressed in Frette linens and, in some, framed mirrors that enlarge the space. Headboards upholstered in chartreuse or cream leather and vintage-style bedside tables provide an elegant counterpoint to the otherwise youthful decor. And the zebra print throw pillows may not be for everyone. Energy-saving controllers power everything, from the wall-mounted 32-inch LCD TVs to the bedside iPod docks. Bathrooms have fragrant Lather bath products, square Kraus wash basins and glass-encased rain showers (although water pressure leaves something to be desired).
Beyond
This is more of a place to sleep than a place to hang. Aside from the lobby, the only other common space is a casual 10th-floor lounge, which serves free tea and coffee all day and an underwhelming continental breakfast each morning. It adjoins a roof deck with lounge chairs and photo-worthy views of the Empire State Building.
