How to Get There
The hotel was more than I expected. Clean, safe, and up-to-date. Great view of the 9-11 memorial and new trade center plaza. But more amazingly was the friendly staff. They were all polite and welcoming. Stephanie at the front desk was AWESOME! She made sure my wife and I were more-than-satisfied with our room. She was pleasing to speak with, cheerful, and helpful with getting around. She made sure that my return trip in August with my ten year old son (for his birthday) will be more than memorable as she reserved the perfect room for us! She greeted us, and I am sure everyone else, with a smile each time we spoke; even if just in passing. She was a true professional. The hotel is worth the stay. I wish there were more Stephanie's in the travel industry!
Great location for the hotel and had some nice touches, such as the complementary tea and coffee and snacks. There was also managers wine provided each day between 5 and 6 pm. The roof top bar had some amazing views of the 9/11 memorial park.
This hotel is tucked away - a sort of step-sister to the nearby 'W' and the Downtown Marriott. The upmarket Conrad is 400 yards north and the down market Courtyard by Marriott 2 blocks east.
What it lacks in visibility and ambiance it more than makes up for in comfort, amenities, quiet comfort and friendliness. I stayed 4 nights on a business trip and was very satisfied. I liked the little features like the bottled water machine, guest services closet and wall mounted coat hooks (why doesn't every hotel have them)?
It was five minutes from the awesome World Trade Center Memorial Museum (set aside at least 4 hours) and the new Oculus transportation hub and two malls - Westfield and Brookfield. A 7 min. walk to the Hudson River.
The bed was comfortable, the TV worked, the iron & board were easy, plenty of outlets, and a lovely little sliver of a balcony with a stunning view of the new World Trade One tower. Breakfast was good in the Top Floor (20th) viewing lounge. I even found it easy to get north on the Subway to Union Sq., Midtown, Grand Central and Times Square, What's more the price was right! - not cheap but great value.
Very detail oriented place, much thought goes into taking care of guests. Folks who work there are very nice and work really hard to provide a positive experience for guests. Rooms are great and View of the World is beautiful, fun and of high quality food & drink.
My fifth (!) time in World center hotel was absolutely disappointing and I feel that after getting such “service” my sixth and next times will be not in this place.
Room 1020...we arrived early, the room was not ready, but this is ok as check in is from 3 pm, so we left our luggage and went to walk.
We came back at 7 pm, the personnel on reception told us that our luggage was already there ( it was nice, thank you) , but they acted a little bit strange talking to each other about that room and asking each other if it was ready. I didn’t pay much care about it as I knew that the room with terrace was waiting for us.
As soon as we came to the room I felt the sting smell of mold stuff, I thought that probably there was problem with cleaning supply , took my shoes off and went to the terrace to open the door and make some fresh air to come to the room and to ventilate it. Suddenly my socks became absolutely wet...all the carpet around bed and near terrace was absolutely wet, so wet then we you put your hand on the carpet all your palm and fingers became absolutely wet. So it really was impossible to go to the bed or to the terrace without getting your feet and socks wet.
And the mold smell was from the carpet, so it seems it was wet quite long.
Then we noticed that we got one face towel for two persons, one set of shampoo and soap, but two bath towels.
3 capsules of coffee with two cream...for two people...
Well, then when I tried to connect WiFi there was a kind of survey about experience and I mentioned about wet floor and asked to dry it.
I also left the message on the paper for the cleaning personnel to provide towels and shampoo etc for two persons and to dry the carpet and floor.
Got shampoo and towels, floor kept wet with mold smell.
Then I went to reception and described the problem there as the message in the survey and to the cleaning personnel didn’t help. They promised to send the cleaning person again , I left hotel and when I returned in the evening the smell was in the room, the carpet and floor was wet.
Next day I left the room early morning and when I returned in the evening I noticed big industrial ventilator which worked noisy and tried to dry the floor.
So it worked all day long, I switched it for the night as it was impossible to sleep with this wind and noise and switched it on next day before leaving the room.
So I had mold smell and wet floor during 2,5 days and then I shared my room with industrial dryer or I don’t know how they call it...
I don’t think anyone deserved to pay almost 300 USD per night for the room with mold smell and wet floor, wet socks and the problem to come to the terrace because of wet floor.
The view from terrace doesn’t worth those money too.
Summing it up it was the worst experience I had in this hotel, I had so nice impression about this hotel before and wrote positive reviews, but I can’t do this this time, unfortunately.
