Behind an anonymous glass façade similar to that of many a Midtown hotel, TRYP’s cleverly organized lobby makes a good first impression. Under high barrel ceilings, one side of the space is all business (check-in desks manned by a cheery staff, hidden computer stations, a private meeting room and a 24-hour gym), while the other side of the lobby is set up for play. You can host a business meeting at the long communal table, grab a coffee from the drink station or dine on tasty tapas at Gastro Bar at 35th Street. Anchoring the space is a marble-topped bar lit by dozens of low-hanging bulbs, and a curved leather sofa designed to echo the colorful mosaics of Barcelona’s Park Güell.
Bed & Bath
The 173 guestrooms stand out for their impressive square footage, long-stay amenities (such as tea- and coffeemakers) and separate living rooms with sofabeds (in Premium Rooms), but there’s little of the lobby’s thoughtful design flair. All have blond wood furnishings, flocked wallpaper, flat-screen TVs and headboards adorned with classic New York quotes. The simple bathrooms are done up in red and gray tiles and have walk-in rainfall showers with toiletries in pump dispensers, plus marble vanities and hair dryers.
Back on the first floor, Gastro Bar at 35th Street gives a nod to TRYP’s Spanish roots with a red-on-gold palette and tasty (if pricey) tapas menu. Think charcuterie and cheese platters, manchego croquetas and veggie flatbread, plus international favorites such as fish tacos, mac and cheese and hot wings. A Mediterranean breakfast buffet is served each morning, as well as an afternoon wine and cheese hour that changes daily. For the business crowd, there’s a small 24-hour fitness center (accessed with your key card) and a private meeting space behind a sliding barn door.
In the Area
A short hop south of Times Square, this Style Steal is great for tourists and business travelers looking for a close-to-it-all stay. Get a culture fix at the Museum of Modern Art, a must-visit Midtown museum housing the world’s best collection of modern masterpieces, or thumb your way through an original Gutenberg Bible and Mozart’s own copy of his Symphony in D Major at the Morgan Library and Museum. First-timers shouldn’t miss the Empire State Building, a stroll through Grand Central Terminal or a quick photo op at your neon-lit neighbor, Times Square.
How to Get There
Room 1101 Family room was great. The lady from Albania (Keera?) was very nice. Great attitude. (Tunja Teta) Albanian for Hello. The only concern I had was that metal shampoo soap holder in the shower. I hit it more than 3 times while showering. Turning around. It has sharp edges. They should’ve been placed in the front facing the shower next to the water shut off.
My family and I recently stayed with you 11/01 - 11/04 in the family room, which was great in regards to size and bedding and the two bathrooms.
The towels could use an upgrade or maybe fabric softener, they felt like sand paper.
The bar service was not very friendly.
The lobby area was a complete disaster Monday 11/4 morning! glasses, cups, left over food, empty bottles all over the place. It looked like someone had a party and they were too tired to clean up before they went to bed.
I don't believe any guest should see this!
We loved the location of the hotel.
Beacuse of the size of the room and the location we would stay there again.
We stayed at the TRYP hotel which was great and in an excellent location.
It is just around the corner from Madison square garden.
Check in was easy and everyone on the staff was courteous.
15 floors. We were on the 5th floor and never had to wait long for an elevator.
We had booked a room with 2 Queen beds and found out upon check-in that we received an upgrade to a family suite. - Room 508
It had 2 Queen beds, 2 bunk beds, a sofa and a small fridge.
The bathroom was very large with a walk-in glass/tile shower with an extra rain shower faucet which was nice.
Beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. Floors were a type of laminate and not carpet which I like.
Continental breakfast was included with our AAA reservation for 2 people and was the usual with eggs, bacon, sausage and oatmeal along with other options.
Will definitely stay here again.
