How to Get There
This hotel was a great location for Broadway...and really any New York site. It is extremely close to Port Authority/42nd street station and has subway lines all over the place. You can also walk underground to the Times Square/42nd street station as well. There are ample places to eat around the hotel, as well as drug stores, wine shops...etc. The rooms are very nice, the elevators are really fast. I highly recommend this property.
We were on the 32nd floor and had an amazing view of the city. The rooms are very spacious and up to date, which is not the case in most hotels in New York. The staff is amazing. They gave us umbrella's to take out and use when it was raining, and they are very friendly...again, unusual for NY. We were there for a group event and the staff was very accommodating to our group and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed for each rehearsal. We will definitely make this our venue for our next visit!
We have stayed at this hotel years before and have always enjoyed the stay. Unfortunately the hotel is no longer to the national standards of The Westin brand. The rooms are filthy, with stains on two small "curtain" panels that do not cover the window completely and bathroom floors that are moldy and filthy. The toilet seat has mold/poop dried on the top of the toilet seat with the seat being so old it is starting to fall apart. The bed linens appeared to be already slept in and the staff and front desk mangers were not even phased our outraged by the information provided. I am a Starwood (Marriott now) platinum who travels solely at Starwood properties 35 weeks out the year and the lack of customer care or concern from the new Marriott program is appalling. While staying here I have been lied to by the front desk and also was given lip service from the Platinum desk with absolutely zero follow through and no customer care or concern. I would avoid this hotel at all costs now. It is such a shame to see such a once very nice hotel turn into another fleabag Time Square hotel.
This Hotel was very clean within walking distance of everything the staff was awesome, helpful, nice, courteous, you could not ask for a better place to stay in New York. I’ll have stayed there two different occasions while visiting New York would not think of staying in another place .
My plane was scheduled to land at 11:15am
and I had tickets to watch the Harry Potter play at Lyric Theatre at 2pm. The producers ask for check-in to begin at 1pm and do not allow large luggage to be kept in the bag check.
After diligently monitoring google maps and airport immigration statistics for two weeks, it was clear that it would take at least 45 min to 1 hour each for immigration clearance and cab ride to Times Square.
Since I would be cutting it really close, I decided on the Westin, believing that it would increase the probability of me getting to the theatre on time - it was literally a stone’s throw away to Lyric Theatre.
Am so glad I chose The Westin at Times Square - Not only it was close to Lyric Theatre, it was also close to Port Authority Bus Terminal, where my bus was departing the next morning at 8:30am.
I wrote in to the hotel and they confirmed I would be able to leave my bag with the concierge without any charge on the first day, in the event my room was not ready when I arrived.
Through my SPG mobile app, I did an online check in, and specified my arrival to be at 1 pm. (Absolutely love this mobile check-in concept by the way.)
My plane ended up arriving 45 min earlier and I was able to reach the hotel at 11:45 am! In the cab ride, I emailed Alex Backes (who had dealt with my previous bag enquiry) to ask if it would be possible to get a room early (official check-in was 3pm). I was really hoping to get a shower after my 24-hour flight.
Although it was her day off, Alex responded immediately to let me know she had informed her colleagues of my early arrival. When I arrived at the hotel, one of the front desk already knew about my situation and had a room for me. While waiting to process my check-in, she also gave me a bottle of water and a box of gummies.
This is absolutely service at its best, with brilliant Westin teamwork. I couldn’t thank them enough! Made it to my show fresh as a daisy despite the jetlag :)
