Overview

Historic midtown Manhattan hotel with a romantic bar and lots of creature comforts

The Lowdown

This historic 114-room Midtown hotel (James Dean lived here for two years in the 1950s!) aims to make life in the Big Apple easy. There’s a concierge to book tickets to Broadway shows (you can put in a request online before ever leaving home), and you can walk to theater district in minutes. The gym, complete with Finnish Sauna, is open 24 hours so you can always find time to work out. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, there’s Triomphe, a celebrated French restaurant, and Lanter’s Keep, a speakeasy-style bar for post-dinner nightcaps.

In the Area

Two blocks from Grand Central Station, the Iroquois is within walking distance of major corporations, which suits the business crowd, and several top sights, which works for tourists. Guests can walk to any Broadway show, head over to Bryant Park to picnic or watch movies in summer and ice skate in winter, or visit the New York Public Library year-round. Forgot your comfy walking shoes? No big deal. Saks Fifth Avenue’s original flagship store is just around the corner—along with just every other boutique you can imagine.

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. Booked based on recommendation. Was very clean, rooms were nice and hotel staff were excellent. Location was exactly what I needed for my meeting location and it was an easy walk.

Clean and quiet and located close to T Sq., plays, shopping, Grand Central Metro North and 9 blocks from Penn Station and Amtrak. Fantastic! Recommend-would stay again. Will be glad when their restaurant reopens.
